Both combatants had clearly displayed their fighting spirit! Neither Pokemon nor Trainer had showed any signs of giving up during their battle. The excitement in the air was certainly palpable and was only amplified by large audience that overlooked the battlefield. The amount of energy within the stadium was truly an amazing spectacle all on its own. Some members of the audience waved colourful banners, while others stood up from their spot in the bleachers with hands cupped to their mouth, fervently giving loud cheers that rose above the rest. But that was nothing compared to the excitement that was to come.

Once Oliver observed one of the two combatant's Pokemon collapse, his decision had been made. Taking a step forward from his place at the edge of the arena, Oliver kept both flags down at his sides, before taking in a deep breath. An expert in his field, Oliver was proud to announce this battle's winner. "Alright, this battle has come to a close." His bright eyes lit up as his clear voice projected through the small mic he wore on his ear, commanding the attention of the entire stadium. "The Winner is..." Raising his right hand, he pointed his green flag at the only Pokemon still standing. "Maria Taylor and her Lillipup!" Suddenly, a loud roar had erupted from the audience, as cheers and applauds dominated the air around both young trainers. Although both Pokemon had fought adamantly and had given their all, it was a shame only one could walk way a winner. "Maria will be moving on to the Semifinals! Stay tuned folks for what's come!"

Lowering his flag, Oliver soon expressed his personal congratulations to the winner and prepared to take a small break before judging the next battle in the long lineup of matches. He truely had his work cut out for him.

Cyndaquil’s flame looked more powerful than it did in the battle against Raja. His ember sent Lilipup to the ground, but it didn’t look like the pup was burned. Koru smiled looking that flame on Cyndaquil’s back, it was larger than usual. It made her think all that training they had been doing was working and Cyndaquil was really feeling the flame within him now. She couldn’t help but shout to him, "You’re so cool Cyndaquil woo!" Cyndaquil suddenly blushed but smiled at the comment. He yelped in reply, Quil quil!” Koru chuckled then started to re-focus on the battle. Lilipup was still up which seemed a little surprising but at the same time Koru had come to notice Lilpup was really into battling, unlike Cyndaquil. That would explain how she totally kicked that Silvano guy to the curb in round one. Maria ordered for a tackle attack. Confidently Koru called to Cyndaquil while punching the air, "Okay Cyndaquil let’s dodge it and then go ahead full force!" Cyndaquil prepared to dodge by sliding away to the other direction, but suddenly his flame died down and then completely shut off. Koru and Cyndaquil gaped shocked, but this spelled more trouble for Cyndaquil. He was distracted long enough for Lilipup to close in and hit him hard for a tackle attack,Cynda-QUIL!” The impact felt so much greater than before. His body felt weaker, like he had little to no energy left. The impact propelled him away. Without really thinking about Koru ran in with her arms swaying while she looked upward following Cyndaquil’s descent, "Cyndaquil!” She held out her arms and jumped out further to catch him in her arms. She fell to the ground herself curled and tumbled, finally stopping on her back. She groaned for a moment then rolled herself upright. In her arms- Cyndaquil was out like light. Lilipup and Maria won.
It took a moment for it to sink in. Koru’s face was full of shock and at the edge of her eyes small droplets of tears were preparing to fall. She quickly shot up and wiped them away. She took a deep breath to calm herself as the referee called the winner then Koru, while still cradling Cyndaquil in her arms, approached Maria and Lilipup. Holding the urge to cry from her own loss she held out her hand and shook Maria’s smiling, "Congratulations Maria…You look a lot better than before I hope you keep your spirits up into the next fight-” She felt movement in her arm and she saw Cyndaquil was a little bit awake. She smiled and pulled out his pokeball, "Take a good rest buddy you’ve earned it.”
