As soon as Atsuko confirmed the identity of the approaching vehicle, Houou failed into focus. Forming three hand seals then, slamming his hands together. Houou closed his eyes, as the surface of his body began to morph. Soon pieces of his skin began branching off of the left side of his body, reaching and stretching until, they began taking form just two feet away. The roots entangled each other until there’s was enough to completely match houous height and mass. The mass of wood then began o take slowly form as as houous body detached from the mass and returned to its normal form. The the wood clone of houou was a carbon copy of the original within mere seconds.
The moment the clone opened his eyes, Houou didn’t hesitate to leap out of the tree, diving feet first. Houou was sure to stay in the UHV’s blind spot behind the tree. The instant houou landed stealthily on the ground, his clone leapt into the sky with all its might. Once again getting an optimal view of the battlefield, only this time houou would see Artemis’ masterful display of fire techniques. Houous clone took advantage of their confusion and turmoil, and targeted the center of the prisoners as his landing zone.
As the UHV guards were preoccupied with the fire. Houou’s clone cane in softly and quietly with his landing. Houou quickly, pulled the the three prisoners closer, then rapidly formed more hand seals. Suddenly a web of thick roots erupted from the ground, forming a thick woven dome around the clone and the three scientists. Protecting them from a mild amount of friendly fire.
“ive secured the prisoners, let them have it!”
Houous clone said over the comms to everyone. The original houou then began advancing toward the group of soldiers, while remaining out of sight.

Moku Bunshin no Jutsu [ Wood Clone Technique ] Rank D A clone that is created by using chakra to alter the user's own cells into vegetation. The clones can be as simple in function as a wooden dummy for use in the Body Replacement Technique or completely mobile and able to perform techniques.[4] They have the ability to travel far from the user and are able to communicate with the original. One can also use a large scale version, bringing out massive roots over a larger area that tangle around each other with such force that any one caught in-between is violently crushed to death. Atsuko heard the time was now and moved into action. Quickly he would create two crow clones with a quick string of hand seals that jumped down into the chaos. From there he used Scattering One Thousand Crows Technique on both of them. The result of all of this was that the uhv themselves were now covered in crows that blocked their vision and hassled them from all angles, an assault of feather and darkness from all sides. This perfect madness opened up the chance for Atsuko to enter into the cloud of crows. A bright flash of fire could be seen enveloping his arm, activating Daitou no Jutsu [ Long Sword Technique ].
Now within the crows and the soldiers Atsuko went to work. In between the birds uhv members would only really get to see the warning sign of embers against the snow before they were cut down by the fiery blade one at a time. More and more would fall but the crows now were finally wearing off, just in time for the reveal. The members he had been picking off were the ones closest to each other in a circle. Now Atsuko was in the middle of it but he had an established perimeter, made of charred bodies. At the same times that the crows dissipated it could be seen that Atsuko was inhaling in a large amount of air before deactivating his flaming blade to switch into hand seals. From his mouth exhaled three large swathes of flames that would spiral out to hit three more members of the uhv that were still standing close by him. She waited for the Houou clone to protect the prisoners before rushing into the battle herself. Crows were everywhere, harassing the UHV before Atsuko jumped in with a fire blade. The snow was beginning to melt around them due to the intense flames from both her spider technique and the now-present blade.
The spider was still above, stomping at the UHV. One of the soldiers had whipped out some military equivalent to a kid's water gun, and had begun shooting at the spider to try and dissolve it. Steam rose from the spider but the water wouldn't be enough to quench the spider, not for a long time. Artemis took the opportunity to generate a small tornado around herself to serve as armor.
She flinched as a syringe shot into the tornado only to be thrown outwards, towards where she'd first been hiding. She looked around for a syringe-shooter-wielding sniper of sorts, but the chaos made it even more difficult in the weather. She furrowed her brow in concentration as she searched, but was jolted back to reality when the soldier with the water gun walked in front of her. She acted on instinct, charging at him until the wind picked him up and threw him a few feet, dispersing her armor with the effort.
She turned to the fallen soldier with the water gun, and when she saw him moving to stand up, she acted quickly. She kneeled on him and put her palm on the center of his lower back. She raised her freed arm to the sky and summoned a bolt of lightning from the darkened sky. The lightning bolt shot down into her arm and traveled through her, into her target. He convulsed then froze on the spot, paralyzed.
She looked around for her next victim.

The wave of energy is strong enough to cause unconsciousness or temporary paralysis [lasting two posts], as well as burns.
Kaze no Yoroi [ Armor of Wind ] Rank: C Official Description: The user creates a spinning tornado around himself or herself to defend against attacks. Guild Description: The wind forms a circle around the user ten feet in diameter and picks up debris and projectiles in addition to acting as armor for the user. Projectile Ninjutsu B-Rank and below, and Shinobi are repelled. The wind armor lasts for five [5] posts.
Houous clone wasn’t able to see the absolute devastation that was going on around him. He only knew that things were getting quite warm inside the protective barrier. It was only a matter of time before the UHV troops turned and tried to break through the wooden dome. Houou could hear the sound of projectiles bouncing off of the wood he had created.unfortunately for houou, this barrier could only take but so much damage before the wood started to splinter and break away from the constant attacks. Thinking fast, Houou clapped his hands together and focused on manipulating the wood around them with his eyes closed. Focusing on the sounds, he gathered the whereabouts of at least 3 enemies. Opening his eyes, Houou forced the wood to form spikes that would branch out only a few feet away from the barrier. Only two UHV soldiers were close enough to get impaired by the spikes, lifting them off their feet as they dies on impact.
Houous clone mmediately formed a set of hand seals and cast the same Justus he had used to form the barrier around them. Only this time the roots would take for beneath then, digging their way through the earth beneath them, suddenly a large mound of dirt began to surface at the prisoners feet. Until suddenly, roots erupted through the soil and unfurled, revealing a small tunnel. Houous clone released his hands and gestured for the three prisoners to to escape through the newly formed wooden tunnel that lead to the nearby tree, Houou had originally landed on. There wasn’t much time, since houou slightly weakened their protective barrier with his last attack.
The original houou finally reached the edge of the battlefield and mapped out the remaining UHV soldiers. He’s teammates were doing a phenomenal job but there were still a great deal of troops left to defeat. Seeing that everyone was distracted, Houou had a plan to use his roots, in order to tangle the feet of all the remaining enemies so that his team could easily sweep through the remaining forces. Then suddenly a voice came over the comms.
“The objective has been accomplished. the prisoners are in a safe location.”
Once Houous clone gave them the clearance houou formed several hand seals and took advantage of the wood his clone had already created. Suddenly roots began springing from the ground beneath every enemy troop. Some were able to slip free or jump in the air, however this left them wide open as their eyes were to the ground. Houou was able to ensnare a good number of the remaining troops, even managing to drag three to the ground where they were crushed by the immense pressure of the roots.

Artemis spotted a UHV soldier coming right at Atsuko's blind spot; in a panic, she put her hands together and urged her chakra into the earth. A needle launched out beneath the snow and impaled the soldier behind him in the blink of an eye. She was entranced for a few heartbeats, staring at the dripping that began to soak the snow red.
Her trance was broken by two simultaneous events: Houou announcing that the prisoners were secured, and a knife being jammed at her upper back, between her left shoulder blade and her spine. She screamed at the intrusion, lurching forward from the momentum of the soldier's attack and out of shock - the pain came in several quick waves as her heartbeat raced faster than before, then it dulled under her adrenaline. She whipped around as quick as she could, letting out a low growl from the way the movement twisted the blade. In this motion she also concentrated her chakra in her gut until it tightened like a fist, so once she turned on the soldier she opened her mouth and released a heavy stream of boiling water on his face. His scream was cut off by gurgling as his face melted and blood rose up his throat like bile.
She panted from the exertion of chakra, combined with the act of holding her breath for the suiton tech and the growing ache on her back from the blade. The adrenaline and amount of boiling water just in her system made her feel like she was on fire on the side, like her blood was molten lava against her snow-cold skin. Already, she could feel an additional chill from the blood leaking down her back. She heaved a few breaths, looking for where Atsuko was, but her vision was already blurring and unhelpful when paired with her adrenaline-inhibited senses.

Atsuko watched the carnage unfold in front of him as lightning crashed across the field and wood churned around its helpless victims. It was all going to plan so far. However the tides were turning, and damn fast. They had only taken out as many as they did at the start as they had the advantage of the ambush, now the UHV were fully invested in ending this thing and taking back their prisoner.
As if sucked out of a trance Atsuko turned in time to see someone get struck down by Artemis that had been in his blind spot, but unfortunately victory wouldn't come so sweet. Before he had a chance to warn her he watched her get hit from behind, still dispatching of a man but falling to the ground shortly afterwards. Eyes wide in shock the part of his brain that controlled thoughts would shut off in reaction to this. The dragon had been unleashed.
With Artemis now incapacitated UHV had begun to go towards her position and fast, even Atsuko himself getting close to surrounded. However a sudden and power bolt of fire would roar through them in a straight path, incinerating the foes who were caught in the center and instantly destroying the limbs of those that were only caught half way. It was hard to say which one was better to be at this point. Taking this open path Atsuko shot across it and fast, his sword active again and cutting down anyone that was caught in his war path until he was standing over Artemis, blood spattering his body as well as charred skin. He had taken a hit or two on the way over but nothing near what had hit Artemis. There would be no forgiveness for this.
From his position he began to whip out balls of fire to anyone that tried to get close that at first glance were easy to avoid, but once they touched the ground they'd explode outwards violently and send the soldiers flying into the air. It got to the point where the area around the pair was nothing but scorched earth and craters amongst the snow. Artemis retched at the noises of battle and carnage. Her face was resting in a bit of snow, her mind in a fuzzy world of adrenaline and blood loss. She was barely aware of Atsuko above her and the bloodshed he'd just caused, and of the position of Houou. She tried to mumble out a message, but throat spasmed and she only managed a minor convulsion as her consciousness melted away bit by bit.
Houou.
Ah, she hadn't seen him in a while. She found the small voice in her head, the screaming momma bear, the one demanding that she get back up and recollect with her team. That they had a job to do, and it wasn't over just yet. Her eyes rolled back for a moment as she summoned the energy to open her eyes.
On three, she promised herself. One. She thought about all the warm embraces she'd shared with Houou over the last few months. Usually after a successful mission, but sometimes just because they hadn't seen eachother in a few days. She thought about his constant friendliness despite his seemingly dark past. That tragedy hadn't dampened his smile, that he was just as resilient as the plants he could summon. She didn't want their last hug to be the last. Two. Atsuko approached her in the beginning. He extended the first olive branch. He was her way out of her own grief over the only woman she'd ever... remembered. She was never going to grow out of her adoptive grandma's pharmacy. After the raid, she was going to haunt it like a ghost, clean it and preserve it and pretend she didn't hurt. Atsuko was the light at the end of a dark tunnel, the campfire after a cold night hike, the breath of air after holding it far too long. Three. All four of them together at the base, finally ready to be something. To create some sort of balance in the world and preserve peace in such an unsettling place. Shinshin.
She coughed up wetness, her eyes squinting at the world around her. She wasn't going to go down because of a ******** knife. Not today, world, and not tomorrow.
She rolled herself completely onto her stomach instead of being stuck on her side. She braced herself on her forearms, breath coming out in a pant just from that effort. Standing up would be a b***h, but she would walk out of here. She'd make it out alive. "A-Atsuko," she whispered. "Can you... help me up?" She dug her hand into the icy snow, then regretted it as she realized she'd just puked there a moment previous. Or an hour previous. Time was a cruel mistress like that.
"I... I can make it if y- you get me up." She licked her lips, copper exploding in her mouth. Don't judge me when I scream, she begged internally. Don't coddle me when I cry from this. Please. She didn't want to dwell on what was about to happen, just on where they'd go from here.
Houou was once again faced with his worst nightmare. Watching Artemis threw him into a fit of rage, however, not at the UHV like one would expect. Houou was furious at his own inability to be of assistance to someone in need. If not for Atsuko’s fast thinking and brilliant display of jutsu, Artemis would have been lost to them. Houou fell into a state of despair. Falling to his knees, he wasn’t even aware that the UHV forces had began their retreat.
“what have I been doing this hole time...”
Houou whispered to himself as the charred bodies sizzled around him and the remaining UHV troops fled. Then as he heard Artemis’ bloodcurdling scream, he was snapped out of his trance like state. Leaping to his feet, Houou dashed to his partners aid, slide up to them across the snow covered ground. Instantly Houou flipped Artemis onto her side, and quickly formed three hand seals and ended by clapping his hands together as if to pray. As he unclasped his hands, a small Yarrow bush could be seen growing as the seconds passed. Took the leaves from the small plant and began grinding them in his hands.
“this is going to sting, but it will stop the bleeding.”
Houou presses the leaves into Art’s wounds making sure to get them inside of the wound and not just on the surface.
“we need to get out of here before their backup arrives.”

The fire in Atsuko's heart didn't stop until Houou appeared near Artemis side and Artemis own voice cut through his madness. Immediately he dropped to a knee to watch over the pair, just in case there were any stragglers that dare to encroach on them. Only once he was sure that they were alone did he tear his eyes away from the surroundings and focus on his allies, no. His family.
"Right. Let's move right now"
The group along side the rescued prisoners would move away from the site, Houou and Atsuko helping Artemis move. Eventually once they were a few kilometers out after much effort they would bunker down for the time being to get some rest before they would finish the rest of the journey. Atsuko lit a fire to keep everyone warm but not enough to give away their position with a smoke trail.
Now that he finally had time to sit and let his mind unfocus he had to hide his hands in his coat pockets, they were shaking visibly which he wouldn't let the rest of the group see. From within his coat Asumo clung to his master in an attempt to calm him. Perspective had definitely hit hard and fast for him, just the sheer realization that they really could die at any point in time. Artemis, Houou, Roxas, even Tsu. Anyone who was a part of the Shishin was at risk, a heavy weight that now fell onto his shoulders. In the back of his mind he had always recognized this but it never had to be faced up until this point. The thoughts alone of losing any of them was driving him mental.
Atsuko wouldn't let himself break down however. He kept his brave face, if still concerned, as he kept watch well Artemis got a bit of rest.
Once they had rested up for at least a few hours the group would finally exit the area. It was discussed that the plan would be for Houou and Artemis to go to Sasagi as Atsuko went to Takumi to pick a few things up. After that they would aim to head back to Kumo, to train and access the hospital. It stung Atsuko's paranoia to let Artemis out of his sight but she seemed stable for the time being and he knew it would be beneficial to stop in Takumi, and it'd save time.

Houou was filled with shame and it showed. He still hadn’t managed to find a suitable teacher in the healing arts, leaving his friends to suffer in pain after every battle. The thoughts trailed on in Houous head as he calmly performed three hand seals. A pile of nearby wood debris, began to fuse together into one large mass. Once collected, the mass of clay like wood, began to take form. Houou casted a wooden bed, with pegs on the bottom, making it easier to pull Artemis through the snow as she rests. Off Houou and Artemis trekked into the distance, forging through snow and wind. Houou had much on his mind, there was much he needed to do before they departed on another mission.
