Nakawara, Naki to his friends, is a free spirit with the boundless energy of a colt who spends most days running the plains or playing games with foals from nearby herds. While his antics might make him appear immature to those who don't know him as well, any who give him a chance will find a kind-hearted listener who might not be great with advice, but who is always willing to offer a shoulder to lean on. This is especially true for children or teens dealing with the stigmas of their youth—Naki understands what it means to be judged for your perceived childishness.
Admittedly, his attention span can be quite short, but Nakawara does have hobbies and passions besides running alone from one thing that catches his eye to another. Preferring night over day for the generally cooler temperatures, he also enjoys stargazing and searching for constellations, something a mare named Brioso once taught him about. Other favored pastimes are swimming and, of course, racing kindred spirits when he can manage to find one. That's when he gets especially competitive, though despite any bluff and bluster, he tends to be a good sport, even when losing.
Loneliness is the biggest enemy to Naki's happiness overall, though it's usually mitigated by short visits with strangers he meets in passing. Even so, he'd love to have a close friend or two, Soquili who understand and accept him for who he is. There were times he thought he'd found them, but they always manage to slip away somehow. It leaves him worrying he's the problem, but he continues to run from this issue, just as he continues to run through life, in the hopes it will all resolve itself somehow.

A dreamer by nature, Ki believes that the world revolves around what is and what could be. She loves to hear stories about the lives of others, whether 'interesting' or 'normal.' Each type has it's place in making up someone's life. Likewise, she also enjoys hearing about other's dreams for the future and what they would like their lives to be like. While she may seem like a head-in-the-clouds personality, she has a great love of learning, both academic and worldly.
Besides that, one of her other great passions is the water. It is extremely rare to see her far from it, be it the ocean, a lake, or a river. She spends the majority of her days traveling up and down the water's edge. It was her mother who likely instilled this great love in her, as she grew up the same way she lives in adulthood. Also because of her own mother's nature and her status as a single parent at the time, she raised her adopted Usdia son, Suraj, in an overprotective manner. This is partially a reflection of her very friendly and supportive nature.

Growing up with an adoptive mother who was rather overprotective, Suraj has always had a 'Mama's boy' mentality. Even after reaching adulthood, he was very reliant on his mother and her guidance, and despite her worldly knowledge, he picked up on very little. He lacks any sense of responsibility and hard work, but with time, has come to realize his own flaws. Since then, he left his mother's side (though it was very difficult for the both of them) and decided to start exploring the world. He wishes to learn the way things work and also, for stressing his mother, wishes to find many interesting stories to bring back to her some day.

Grindery is an inventor by nature, extremely intelligent despite his 'bad boy' appearance. He sees possibilities in everything and understands the importance of observing his surroundings. Using his mind and his mouth, he can construct things similar to primitive machines, such as working traps and toys. Due to his need to think about everything in advance, it is very difficult to convince him to do things on a whim. He also highly dislikes moving and will stay in one place a large majority of the time.
Despite past mistakes, he still hold an arrogance about him, believing his intelligence to be greater than most others and looking down on those who prove their stupidity. Because he is such a strong believer in observation and will watch a fellow Soquili for a long time before passing judgment on them, he believes that there is no way he can be incorrect about someone's personality/smarts/etc once he has come to a conclusion.
Under most circumstances, he will act cordially, even friendly if he has deemed the other acceptable. In truth, he wishes to find someone who can see past his appearance and appreciate his great intelligence. It could be said he is very 'book smart,' but lacks some real world experiences.
History___________________________
In his previous homeland, he lived his younger years in a very small group of two mothers, himself, and a fellow colt. The mares were friends from long ago and worked together to raise their sons, both hyenas. The two boys, having lived their entire lives together, became close, forming a brotherly bond. The two of them often ventured away from their mothers to explore and it was during these times that Grindery discovered his intellect. By simply thinking on it, he was able to invent toys for the two of them to play with and come up with strangely complicated games. At the time, this was nothing but fun for the two of them.
As they grew into adulthood, however, a rift began to form between the males. Because of his intelligence, he grew a big head and often gloated. While the mothers took it in stride, laughing off his arrogance, his 'brother' grew tired of hearing it. One day, while showing off his newest invention, the 'brother' snapped, yelling at Grindery and telling him that he was not as great as he thought. Startled by his longtime friend's outburst, he stepped back and onto the invention, breaking it and causing a particularly sharp branch to whip away and injure his friend's mother.
Though the wound was hardly severe, only a slightly bleeding scratch, his 'brother' reacted harshly, rearing up and driving him away from the small group. While both mothers tried to protest, Grindery stood at a great distance, emotionally pained and confused. Eventually the pain grew to anger and he stormed off, promising his once beloved family that he would never return.
And so, he found his way to the Kawani lands and settled, unable to return home because of his own pride, despite wanting to see his mothers (and even his brother) again.
