Lafayette tilted his head curiously as Mel stated that she’d completed all her obligations for this party. Really? Well now he couldn’t help the surprised expression that crossed his face. He certainly expected her to have a lot more to do at such a shindig like this. "Well al’righ’ Sheila. G’donya then." He remarked with a cheeky smile.
That smile of course faded in thought at the mention of what to do next. He did… still have gyms to do. It was probably best he got back on that before Juliean reamed his backside. He hadn’t taken the gym in the nearby town after all. "Mm… ah do actually sheila. Got that… Grent fellah ta do." He gestured over his shoulder, taking a step back and starting to turn in the direction of the doors. Well if it was good to start heading out them he was all for it; he needed to check his pokemon anyways; they’d been training this entire time per his demand so it was good to check on them.
Lafayette grinned and shook his head, waving Mel’s remark off. "No worries ‘bout it sheila. I can get it back. Gotta find meh pokies though." He glanced back at her thoughtfully. "Where ya headin’ then?" He didn't know if Mel had a gym to do as well or if maybe she'd just head along. He certainly was curious for once in his life to know about someone else; if only because she'd inquired.

Lafayette scoffed at her remark, brushing a hand across his face before quirking an eyebrow with a slightly smug grin. "Damn straigh’ sheila. ‘Course had tha’ others ta take care of, puttin’ me behind." He grinned. When she admitted to teasing though he chuckled again, shaking his head though he did quirk an eyebrow as she admitted she’d only just beaten him.
"Realleh?" That was rather surprising; he’d have imagined Mel was a stronger trainer and a lot farther along just from the looks of Lucy. He supposed everyone had their own pace though; not everyone had a task master after all. When she mentioned a ‘Brian’, Lafayette looked briefly confused.
"Brian?" He inquired curiously as they headed out, hands tucking away at the pockets in his dress pants (they weren’t very roomy he finally came to notice) as they went. "Thought ya didn’ have any mates sheila?" He teased, tilting his head thoughtfully as he tried to consider who the third gym leader was. "Yeh good agains’ fightin’ then?" He grnned, looking at Mel once more. He might’ve not know the name of the gym but he knew the basics; which was that it was fighting. Not something too difficult.
"S’pose I’ll catch up ta yeh righ’ quick." He rubbed under his chin. "You jus’ takin’ on Kali then sheila? Or you switchin’ around?"

Mel tried not to scoff too hard at Lafayette's response, but it was pretty hard not to do. That was some heavy confidence right there, and his wording didn't help. She clearly didn't mean anything, though; the warm smile on her face gave that away as she recovered. She did catch something, though, her expression turning a bit quizzical. "'Others'?" She repeated, once she'd put herself together, "What d'you mean?" She clearly wasn't catching on that he might mean other gyms. As in-- he had way more experience in this than she did. Or than she might have expected.
Mel shrugged a bit. "Yeah. I mean, I don't think defeating was very difficult or anything, and I also just haven't had a chance to get to the other gym yet. I was sort of on my way here when I got dragged to..." She gestured back to the aquarium as they exited. "Well, this. I'll probably be heading there as soon as I can, though, so I can see where I'm at and how much training I need before the next one," she mused thoughtfully. She was fairly confident that her pokemon could take on the third gym, given the training Lucy had, and the natural strength some of the others had, plus the bit of training she had done and could do between here and there, but it would also work as a good, more accurate assessment of how strong they really were, and how much they might need to train for the next one.
Mel flashed Lafayette a smirk at the remark. "I have one," she replied just as playfully. "Actually, Brian's been my friend for a while. He's traveling with me, but he's... not... good with crowds. That's why I asked you," she explained, gesturing to Lafayette as she did. She blinked, though, at his question, her expression going a bit blank as she stared at him. "Well, I mean, I know self-defense, but--" She stopped as she realized. "Oh." He was talking about typing. Her expression quickly change to uncertain realization. "Oh... actually, I don't really know..." she murmured, "Blue has a flying move, I think... but I don't think I have any pokemon with Psychic moves... And I think he's the only one with a Flying type one..." She bit her lip, clearly suddenly much more doubtful about her chances against this gym leader. She shook her head, though, flashing a smile. "I'm sure we'll be able to do it without type advantages in excess, though," she remarked optimistically. It was clear she was still a little shaken by the realization, though.
She chuckled a bit at his remark, but once again, was completely knocked off guard by his phrasing. "Kali... As in Kalos?" She figured after a moment. She'd thought it was a name at first, but.... She gave him a dubious, questioning sort of smile, but then chuckled, shaking her head a bit. "You like your nicknames, don't you Lala?" She remarked, amused. She shrugged a bit, though, deciding to answer the question. "Honestly, I've no idea. I'm just sort of taking things by ear for now, seeing how things go and such. Might go somewhere once the gyms get a little harder here, train while I sight see and such," she decided. Of course, that was only half true; she wasn't exactly sight seeing, after all.

Lafayette blinked and grinned as Mel seemed confused at his remark about ‘others’, doing his best to refrain from laughing. "Otheh’s sheila. Othe’ gyms." He remarked musingly, holding up three fingers. "I had ta get tha’ other first three gyms in some otha’ places… haven’ don’ that yet here though. Guess I got some catchin’ up to do?" He teased before dropping his hand back down to his side. He wasn’t bragging or anything of the like; it was just a fact about his situation, though it was rather funny that Mel hadn’t caught on to such an idea sooner. No harm though.
"Ahh… I see." Lafayette nodded his head. Well that certainly made sense and that would certainly be the excuse he used if Juliean came assaulting his backside for not being farther along in his badge collecting mission. The Aussie quieted a moment though as Mel explained who Brian was, a cheeky grin crossing his face as he gave her a gentle elbow nudge. "Yeh sure that’s wha’ it is sheila?" He teased, hinting that there was secretly some sort of hidden truth to her just asking a random stranger to be her companion. He chuckled though, immediately lightening up and shaking his head. The conversation turned to concerns of the next gym, Lafayette’s head tilting in thought.
"I’m sure yeh’ll do fine Mello. Yeh got a tough pokie there… bet the rest of’em are just as tough." He replied with an encouraging smile. She seemed the type to have her team tough; maybe he’d have to challenge them to wrestling just to be sure. At the remark of his talking, he just tilted his head with a smirk. "No nicknames here sheila. Just names." He took a few steps ahead though, spinning around on his heels to walk backwards while looking at her. "Sounds like a good plan though… you thinkin’ of stickin’ around then?" He asked, honest curiosity to his voice. If she was well… maybe he’d find her again. He had to find his pokemon, get the next gym but if she was off that way, maybe they’d run into one another again? Be nice to have pleasant company.

Mel still seemed confused, until Lafayette mentioned 'gyms'. Then, once more, realization (and surprise) seemed to hit. She didn't seem as unnerved, uncertain, or sheepish about it, though. Just surprised. Like she hadn't considered that. Which she hadn't. "Oh!" she uttered, looking thoughtful, "... Wow...." She looked down a bit, but then smiled, giving Lafayette a bit of a teasing, questioning sort of smile. "S'pose I've got some catching up to do, too, then, don't I?" she remarked with bemused amusement. Now she was curious why he only battled to the third gym.... and just how many other regions he'd done that in.
She nodded a bit, then smirked at his little playful comment, shaking her head a bit. "Oh, well, you know, nothing tickles me more than holding strangers hostage for bumping into me," she joked back. She paused, then added, "Oh, and for giving me pokemon," with an entertained roll of her eyes. She shook her head again, then flashed him an apologetic look. "Honestly, I actually feel rather bad for acting that way and all... This whole situation has been more to my benefit, and I just dragged you along without any real good reason... You sure there's nothing I can do to actually make it up to you? Buy you dinner, or some pokegear, or... a suit?" she asked, adding the last one as a tease, gesturing to his current outfit.
Her smile was a bit more softer at his reassurance, oddly warmed by the gesture. She wasn't sure why he was being quite so nice... She got the impression it wasn't empty, or just out of habit. Lafayette seemed more honest and grounded -- well, maybe grounded wasn't the right word -- for that. There was always that... back up theory, but she still really didn't think that was the case here. "Well, I'm glad you think so, though I feel you should maybe see the rest of my team before giving me so much credit. Still... I'm sure we'll manage, one way or another. And if not, we'll train and try again," she decided, much more confidently this time. She gave him a quizzical look as, not only did he deny her accusation of 'nicknames', but began walking backwards. Her expression pretty much asked the question for her, but she still voiced her curiosity on the first on. "Oh really? 'Mello'?" she pointed out a bit. She didn't mind, and she was careful to make that obvious, but... come on. That wasn't her name. That counted as a nickname, didn't it? She gave a sort of uncertain nod and wiggle of her head and shrug of her shoulders to his question. "Probably. Least for a bit. What about you? You mentioned other regions before? You planning to just make it to the third here, too, then head off to another?" she queried, adjusting Lucy. Lafayette just grinned and gave a nod of approval as Mel picked up on what he’d meant, though he finally let out a laugh as she remarked that maybe it was she who had the catching up to do. "No rushes sheila. Yeh take ya’ time." He remarked. The conversation returned to the matter at hand, Lafayette still grinning (boy he’d been doing that a lot lately) as Mel offered up other rewards for serving as her date.
"How ‘bout we jus’ leave it as a favah owed, hm sheila?" He replied. That was probably the best option; as much as he appreciated all that she was willing to do for his simple act of accompanying her and giving her that pokemon (Which he’d been trying to get rid of but it probably wasn’t good to just outright admit that) he really didn’t have anything in mind now as payback. A favor was always good for the future though and given Mel’s attitude about it, it’d probably work.
"Ahhh def’not a suit. Not quite propah fa’ the work I do." And it was horrifically noticeable, although doing criminal heists in a suit would probably be really amusing. He mused over that thought as Mel responded to the gym situation, chuckling a little and giving her a slap on the shoulder. "Think she’ll be apples Mello, no worries." Lafayette just had an amused look in his eye, seeming to conveniently overlook the fact that Mel was calling him out on his ‘nickname’ habits. Okay so maybe he did nicknames a lot, or maybe that was just habit.
"Mm… depends where all my yakkin’ takes me." He tilted his head in though. "Onleh got a couple other reggies to hit… could stay here a bit." Lafayette just shrugged. It depended really on what Juliean wanted. It was probably a good idea to… get in touch with him.

So Elizabeth was now heading towards the Ambrette Aquarium and walking inside the building. The staff greeted her as she nodded back, going towards where the party had been. Apparently it was still going on, making her way through the crowd of people in the direction of that door. Once she had gotten to the door, she opened it a little and peeked out, to see if those people from before or anyone is out there. But she didn't see anyone, relieved as she opened the door fully, heading outside before closing the door again. Then she felt the wind blowing a bit, amazed as she looked out at the beautiful clear ocean just steps away on this beach. Elizabeth had found a rock with as flat of a surface as she could find, sitting down on top of it while taking in the surroundings around her.

Mel scoffed and gave Lafayette a very dubious (but amused), smile. "Right, but, if I take my time, I'm fairly certain there will be even more catching up to do," she pointed out, then narrowed her eyes a bit, "Or am I honestly to believe you'd wait for me to catch up?" Yeah. Right. For one, there was no reason for him to do that, for two, they didn't know each other well enough for him to do it for the sake of kindness. Of course, that was all pretty much null and void to begin with-- Mel wasn't really interested in 'catching up'. Curious, maybe, if only to know just how many badges he had, but she wasn't.... Well, okay, she was competitive, but not unnecessarily so. She wasn't intent on making this a competition or anything.
Mel gave a conceding shrug as Lafayette decided to leave it as an unpaid debt. "Alright, if you're sure. Feel I should be a bit more nervous about leaving myself in the debt of a stranger, here, but..." She smiled and gave him a playful poke in the arm. "I'm trusting you, here, Lala. I owe you one," she finished. She was clearly just joking. She didnt' mind owing him a favor at all. She wasn't exactly the sort that would pay a debt if she wasn't comfortable with the price or anything, after all.
She chuckled a bit, though... her expression turned curious after a thoughtful moment, and she looked at Lafayette with consideration. "Just what sort of work do you do, anyway?" she asked curiously. She was distracted from her musings as Lafayette reassured her, trying not to lurch too much from the smack to her shoulder, a smile still on her face. She clearly wasn't too phased by it. She was much more focused on the fact that he had clearly not responded to the nickname point. Which she took to mean she was right. Her pursed lips and restrained smile pretty much suggested as much, too, and made it clear she had noticed that. She shook her head some, though, but didn't press it. "Well, thank you. I appreciate it," she remarked, brushing her fingers back through her hair a bit. Sometimes she wished having longer hair...
She looked over as Lafayette used that term again, 'yakkin'', trying not to look too amused (and bemused). That became much easier, though, when Lafayette made his final remark. "Regis!??" she exclaimed in surprise, "You're going after the Regis!?! What y--" She slowed as realization started to sink in. "Y... you... You... meant... regions, didn't you..." she uttered, looking embarrassed, then lifting a hand up, blushing and looking off to the side. "Well that's embarrassing," she remarked with a little laugh, smiling, though still looking in the opposite direction. She shook her head a bit, though, waving a hand before her face as if to fan herself, before lowing it to wrap back around Lucy. He gave her a cheeky smile when she inquired if he would actually wait for her, head immediately shaking from side to side. "Nah, probable not Mello. Not quite how ‘catchin’ up’ works afteh all." Not as far as he knew anyways.
When she conceded to just owing him a debt for the future, Lafayette’s grin grew and he nudged her yet again. "G’donya sheila! I’ll think of somethin’." Or completely forget about; that happened sometimes. Of course, he’d keep that he was owed a favor by someone to himself, didn’t need Juliean trying to take advantage of it or anything. "No worries Mello, I ain’ gonna make it bad." He winked and laughed. Nah, he wouldn’t maybe it’d be taking more pokemon or something, but nothing too terrible. Hopefully.
Lafayette’s smile dimmed a bit as Mel asked what he did, a thoughtful frown appearing on his face as his expression took a grim turn. Whether it was displeasure or concern that made him look that way was hard to tell, but eventually it faded just as quickly as it appeared a hand waving through the air. "Jus’ odd jobs. Nothin’ specific." He replied with a tone that suggested he wasn’t going to discuss it further. If there was thing he was practiced at, it was not talking about work. He was thrown off when she started on about ‘Regis’ in such a surprised tone, Lafayette blinking and staring at her in confusion.
What in the…. "Yeh Sheila. Regis." He tilted his head. "Wha’d ya think I meant….?" Lafayette stopped walking, looking genuinely confused, though he did give a laugh as Mel addressed her embarrassment. "Yeh pretteh spiffy Mello." He remarked with a shake of his head. He blinked and straightened up her question, having to take a moment to physically count on his fingers to figure out. It honestly looked like it took him a bit of thought to do too. "Ah…, ten?" He remarked, doing a recount and seeming to focus to make sure he’d done it right. Numbers weren’t really his thing either, but he got them a bit better than text. Once he’d counted like… five times during that time he gave an affirmative nod. "Yep, ten. Three from three, one from here." He shrugged. "Few more ta’ get."

Elizabeth had then realized that there would be a certain pokemon who would enjoy this just as much as she is. So she got out a pokeball and then let out the Ducklett, surprised at being let out. But then Primrose saw the ocean, eyes sparkling and looking back as if to ask if she can go swim in the water. She just nodded back, which made the other cry out happily before running straight towards the water. Now Primrose was smiling, swimming around in the ocean but not straying too far from shore either. Elizabeth sighed, glad to see that the Ducklett is so happy getting to swim in the ocean like this. It would only be fair to let her Water-type pokemon go swimming since she is by the ocean anyways.

Mel rolled her eyes a bit at Lafayette. "Sure it is!" she exclaimed with playful defiance. "You just wait for me, while I 'catch up'! It's still the same thing, you're just not... 'propagating the gap', so to speak" she 'explained', using her fingers as quotation marks for her made up term. She was a bit glad to see that she had read Lafayette in assuming his answer wouldn't be an easy, amicable agreement, but a playful decline. She adjusted Lucy in her arms, nodding some as Lafayette claimed he would 'think of somethin' for the debt, though she wouldn't be surprised if that meant forgetting it until she mentioned it again, or until a convenient opportunity arose. She chuckled at his tease, too, and shook her head, then gave him a smug sort of smirk. "Y'know, somehow, I'm not actually too worried," she teased back.
She frowned slightly when he did, more so at his answer. Not so much because of the response itself, but the tone of voice he used. Touchy subject? Seemed a strange thing to be sensitive about, especially considering his garb from earlier. She would have assumed he was just a handyman or something, and honestly, she'd expected something like the answer he gave-- just not with that tone of voice. It was... strange. It made her wonder. She looked at him a moment, but then shook her head, trying to dismiss the feelings. She wouldn't prod. "I see," she answered rather simply, and, while she stick to her resolution, her tone gave away that she had caught on that there was something to that reaction.
Mel continued to stare at Lafayette a bit when he repeated the word, but still didn't seem to catch on. "Well... Regis. Y'know, like... regirock, registeel," she answered, beginning to list them, "regice, regigigas... Regis." She was still a bit embarrassed, but smiled when Lafayette called her... 'spiffy'? More out of curious amusement than anything. She'd only heard that word in a sort of... 'cool' or 'neat' context.... But she wasn't srue that was how he was using it now. Her expression quickly changed when he mentioned how many badges he had, turning to one of surprise, and awe. That was... far more than she suspected... "Wow... Bloody hell, that's.... a lot of badges," she remarked, lowering her gaze to the ground. She shook her head a little, offering a smile. "Pfff… I don’ think so sheila. Noice try though." He elbowed her again, shaking his head in response. Ah yes, he was not about making anything easy and if Mel wanted to catch up, it would have to be because she put the pedal to the metal. He did give her a cheeky grin. "G’donya." No reason to worry after all.
"Mmm…," Lafayette didn’t look at Mel as the silence arose from the question of his profession, expression ambiguous. He wasn’t a very good liar, which is probably why it was best to avoid the subject all together, so it was good that Mel didn’t seem to try and probe any farther. He noted her tone, gaze narrowing just a bit but he gave a shake of his head. That was fine, he figured as much, but if she wasn’t going to ask further then he certainly wasn’t going to dwell on it either. There would be a time (hopefully far in the future and long after he’d moved on from this line of work) where maybe he’d admit it. Not now though, just because. It was like the whole Team Plasma thing; he’d admit to that but that was mostly because it was in the past. Sort of.

Mel chuckled a little. "Worth a shot," she remarked playfully, this time giving him a light elbow in response. She flashed a smug, teasing smirk, then looked ahead, rolling her eyes a little as she caught the cheeky grin on his face out of the corner of her eye. Gradually, the conversation seemed to be whittling down, though there was still the matter of... Regis. That seemed to be cleared up, though, as she explained, and even listed some of them, still looking a bit embarrassed and sheepish about the whole thing. She hummed, glancing away as he understood, her expression still giving away some of her embarrassment on the matter. She looked back at Lafayette as he commented on going to battle Grant, rolling her eyes and slowing as they reached the pokecenter. "Pff, right, 'catch up'," she repeated with a scoff, smiling as she referred their earlier conversation. She adjusted Lucy, though, and lifted her starter so she could climb over and hang onto her back. "S'pose I'll be seeing you in Shalour, then," she remarked, holding out a hand, "It was nice meeting you, Lala. Thanks again for coming to that drab party with me.
