- - Being short sort of made the climb a challenge along with the fact that he was sporting a bit of extra baggage, but eventually Ashley swung himself up the ledge and onto the platform that contained the gym arena. He huffed and took a minute to recompose himself, brushing down his clothes to free himself of the bit of dust he’d accumulated on the climb up. Well now that wasn’t difficult. He’d even done it free style without ropes and such.
That was a bit thrilling, the threat of probably plummeting to your death. But that didn’t happen and so, with his composure resumed and baggage adjusted he moved to take up the empty space on the gym outline. It wasn’t long before a young man shimmied down from a wall on the opposite side, spotting Ashley and moving to the opposite side of the field. ”Well hello there! It looks like you’re ready for a challenge.” Ashley just observed the man a moment before nodding his head.
"Oui. I should hope it is a good one." Was his remark as he pulled out Theodor’s pokeball. Grant just smiled and nodded in return. ”Well you’ve made it this far, so I have a feeling it will be. Good luck!” Ashley just nodded. So much talking.

Gym Leader Grant
With just a hint of a smirk flickering across Grant's mouth the gym leader recalled his Tyrunt, one hand finding itself on his hip afterwards. "Well, that's that," he concluded and then proceeded to make his way over to Ashley, handing him his badge and TM with the same ghost of a smirk from earlier. "There are a lot of components in battle, speed being one of them. You utilizing that shows that you've definitely got an idea of what you're doing. So take this, the Cliff badge and the TM Rock Slide." With his post-battle assessment and items handed out Grant tossed his thumb behind him, "if you're not up for another climb there's a slide you can take, it's a quick way down."

Ashley watched as Grant moved across the field, returning Theodor before the Jolteon had a chance to jump the approaching man in his excitement. That had gone just about how he expected it too. "Merci beaucoup." The French man remarked, giving a little nod and extending his hand to take his earnings. He took a look over the badge and TM before tucking them away. He quirked an eyebrow as Grant made mention of a slide that he could use instead of climbing back down.
"Merci, I think I will." Ashley remarked, giving the man a little bow to say goodbye before moving along to just that. He wouldn’t have minded going back down the wall but he’d been in this city long enough and would’ve rather started moving along to the next city.
And you know, slide were always fun sometimes and given how high up they were, he was sure it’d be a bit of fun. And it was. Sort of. It was over quickly to his surprise, though Ashley just huffed and made his way out and to the pokemon center. He’d heal up his team quickly and then off to the next place he’d go.

Ashley leisurely strolled his way towards the pokemon center, case still on his back as he considered his next course of action. He’d let Alphonse and Bastien out once more, much to the Fennekin’s surprise. Really, it was a wasted opportunity that gym battle; he should’ve let the fox out to watch and observe the fight to learn some more for his own future battles. Because there would be some; Ashley would make sure of it. For now though, the Fennekin seemed to be becoming more comfortable with his place on the man’s team which was good in its own right.

"Alphonse." Ashley broke the silence as they stepped into the pokemon center. The mega Audino’s ears twitched as he gave his trainer a lazy look of interest. The man fell silent again as he approached the counter, handing over the few of team members before going to take a seat. He pulled out a magazine once more and started browsing it before starting to speak again.
"Ze next gym is a fighting type." He started, casually browsing through the magazine as he did. Alphonse just seemed to c**k his head slightly to the side in response to this, eyeing his trainer in the process. "I want you to train and take it down." Ah, okay then. The Audino seemed to muse on the idea a moment, stroking the chest fluff like it was a tie as he thought. Bastien looked surprised, glancing between the pair. Ashley took note, glancing at the Fennekin.
"You should train as well, mon petit." The man remarked, pointing down. "Alphonse may very well need ze back up, and you must learn to pull your weight." He glanced down at Bastien. "You will do fine though."

With that announcement made and decided, Ashley really wasn’t going to have anyone arguing against him on it, he returned his focus to the magazine he was browsing. Once more there wasn’t really anything of interest in it, but he really didn’t feel like pulling out his novels to read at that particular time. He just wasn’t in the mood for a lot of the things he favored it seemed lately, which was a shame because this was probably the perfect time to be catching up on all of that. He didn’t really have work at the moment; build a pokemon team hardly counted as ‘hard’. Time consuming? Sure. Hard? Not really.
Thoughtful, he placed his laptop on the table and opened it up, deciding to take a look and see if he had any new updates. It’d been a day or so now, surely they had found something right?

Nothing. Either Interpol was being lazy or incompetent, or maybe something was going on and he just didn’t have a clue, but from what he could see there was no new information concerning his target and that left him with a bout of agitation. You would think the importance of locating some rogue agent you held responsible for the disappearance of other agents would be of higher priority.
But he guessed not. Actually, it was probably wise to check in at some point and make sure everyone hadn’t just died at some point while he was away. He wouldn’t have been surprised as bad as that sounded.

But he could do that later. Maybe. If he really felt like it. For now he would focus on this whole trainer nonsense for a little bit longer and then worry about Interpol. Because as much as he would’ve actually been out and hunting, going against orders would earn him no favors and he could probably kiss his chance to ever be let out from behind a computer goodbye.
And boy, as much as he would only silently admit it, being trapped behind a computer could be boring. Eventually Nurse Joy returned with the few pokemon he’d given her. Ashley thanked her before returning to his seat and lingering a little longer. He wasn’t all that anxious to start moving again, truth be told, but it was something he was going to have to do. Trying to kill a little more time –maybe he’d set out right before dusk in order to reach the next town by night fall- he opted to give his sister a quick call to make sure she was doing alright. She was for the most part, fairly independent for a fifteen years old, but then again give what most kids did nowadays it wasn’t surprising. Browsing the shop a moment, Ashley made a few final purchases before finally getting the hell out of the pokemon center. He’d wasted enough time and as much as it seemed that he was trying to delay the inevitable move to the next area, he really needed to get going.
Finally outside, he took a look at his map and frowned. The next gym was located in Shalour City, and to get there he’d have to go through several place first… through Geosenge Town and then through a cave –Arceus damnit ******** caves- before finally reaching his destination. With a sigh, he tucked the map away and ran a hand back through his hair, adjusting his glasses a bit in the process. Well if there was anything about the trip that was worthwhile it was the chance to have a look at the strange structures in Geosenge. He’d read about them somewhere –maybe like a setting of one of his trash novels who really knew- and they sounded like something worth looking into. And if anything, he could let his team train some more before attempting to quickly move through the cave. That sounded like a good idea.

Okay, it was settled. He had a plan, kind of, he had his team back, sort of and he was, for the most part, ready to start moving. Almost. If he was going to let his team train in Geosenge then he wanted to make sure everyone was once more boosted up. He’d managed to obtain two more heartscales from the store –the things were in short supply apparently- and so he pulled out his pokedex once more to browse his choices. He wanted Alphonse to do most the fighting this time, just to progress along quicker and the Audino for the most part, was well equipped to handle the task.
As much as he wanted Bastien to participate, there wasn’t much expectation there –maybe on the next gym- so his next focus was Odilon. Flying was a good match up against the oncoming gym and the Swanna would do well to get some battling in after his extended little trip away. With that decided, Ashley tucked the heartscales away from later use. He’d think about it a little more along the way.

Alright, he was about set. Almost. Since he intended to train certain members, he let them out, particularly Odilon, eyeing the black Swanna a moment. Odilon didn’t seemed perturb that his trainer was giving him looks that seemed to suggest no flying off to do whatever, instead ruffling his feathers and taking to the sky above. It didn’t take long to find the right gate; Ashley had some remembered from the map and some from following Odilon who seemed to be sort of guiding him in that general direction. Alphonse kept Bastien close as they followed along, gaze shifting about as he kept an eye out for some potential battles along the way. Eventually they came back towards the route gate in question. Ashley still had the area where he’d left Octave and his things in sight, certain the Porygon2 would do his job of updating the system as well as protecting his things. For now though he needed to focus on finding individuals to fight. His pokemon weren't going to grow strong without decent opponents to combat after all. Luckily the area was tingling with life.
