The last of the pokemon was taken care of -- a spinarak, surprisingly -- and Brian caught it like the others. He was a bit more preoccupied, given he was now interacting with Mel's new Riolu, but he wanted to finish this so they could hide return to Mel's room. 'Why did you do that?' the Riolu asked curiously. "Huh? Do, uh... do what?" Brian asked distractedly, putting the ball away, and working to try and round up the pokemon. He went and picked up Kiwi, given the little robot tended to have trouble moving, and frequently tripped over its own feet. 'Catch those pokemon! Are you gonna use 'em? Oh! Are we gonna BATTLE 'em!?' the pokemon asked, eyes going wide, hands lifting up in little fists, 'Are they criminals!? Are we turning them in??' He seemed far too excited by all of this.
"Huh? Wh... No. I'm... just catching them in case Mel wants them," Brian explained, looking uncertainly at the pokemon as he herded everyone back towards the room, hurrying to try and get out of the hallway before any of the girls from before returned. 'Oh... Well what if she doesn't want them? Are you gonna let them go?' the Riolu asked, lowering his hands in disappointment. Then, as if on second thought, added, 'Did they do all that damage to that room back there?' Brian shifted, glancing down at the pokemon with a slightly wary expression. "... Do you have a name?" he asked, rather than answering all his questions. The pokemon perked up a bit, looking curious. 'I'm Shaie,' he replied rather simply.

Lafayette let out a proper laugh at Mel’s joking remark to his own comment. Ah, when was the last time he’d enjoyed good laughs like this? It felt like it’d been a while it felt like. Either way, he was enjoying the banter even if he couldn’t fully speak as freely about himself as he semi-wished. His grin did turn a bit sly at her next comment, eyes semi-half open as he seemed to mull over the thought. "Yeh sure? I mean, bet it’d be a nice bonus for’em." He teased a bit, head tilting up just a bit as he mused. He laugh again when she inquired if he was speaking from some person experience, cheeky grin still on his face.
"Wha’ ya thinkin’ I share stories that easy too? Not playin’ a fair game there sheila." Lafayette joked. He took a moment to avert his gaze back towards the tank, still smiling as he rolled up his pant legs, semi-remembering why he wasn’t a fan of such fancy clothing. It was always so stiff to handle, even when it wasn’t, but eventually was able to join her and splashing his feet around in the water as well. Lafayette relaxed, watching a moment before perking up again as Mel spoke. He listened curiously as she explained how she got Blue, gaze redirecting to watch the fish as she did. "Huh… tineh?" He remarked looking semi-confused. He supposed runts happened but to think that a Goldeen could be… ‘tiny’ was a bit odd. "How tineh?" He sat up from his peering, holding up his hands to create a small circle with his fingers in gesture. "Small’ah than this?" He quirked an eyebrow, noting a moment that Mel seemed lost in thought before she came back around to continue the conversation. Before he could respond himself though, a “Dewott!” cry interrupted him.
Lafayette glanced over as Noah resurfaced with a shell clutched firmly in his grasp. In a flail of excitement, the Dewott offered it up to his trainer to have a look. Lafayette frowned, rolling his eyes and snatching it up. He gave it one look over, Noah’s face beaming before it quickly changed to shock as his trainer promptly dropped the shell back into the water and rapped the back of his knuckles on top of the Dewott’s head. "Stop bringin’ up trash, mate. Leave it alone." Lafayette scolded, earning only a sharped “Wott!” from Noah before the pokemon went diving right after the shell. He just rolled his eyes again and shook his head.
"Sorreh sheila." He murmured, not even looking as Noah retrieved the shell and returned it as offering to him, instead just taking it and chucking it even farther way towards the other side of the tank much to his pokemon’s discontent. "Mm… sounds like a rippah of a time sheila. Yeh like the ocean?"

Mel scoffsed, rolling her eyes and smiling a smile just shy of disbelief. "Y'know, unless you're strippin' to donate those clothes, I don't quite think that's the show these charity goers are looking to see. Though, I mean..." She stopped, pressing her lips together to cut herself off, and then shaking her head, still trying to keep from grinning. After all, an aquatic strip show was the sort of bizarre 'charity' type activities the stereotypically rich might attend. But, really...
Mel pressed her lips together again, this time more in a smug, amused sort of look as Lafayette accused her of 'not playing fair', before she shrugged a bit. "Fair enough. Perhaps we can share drinks and swap stories sometime, then," she replied back, flashing a smirk, "Assuming you have any to share." Of course, if he called her bluff, she might have to be make some embarrassing confessions, one way or another, but honestly, the conversation was fun, and she didn't exactly expect him to take her seriously. For one, she was being playful, and for another... this was, after all, a random encounter. A chance outing. She didn't expect them to make friends just because they were getting along, even if he was interesting to talk to. She was more realistic than that.
She nodded a bit when he repeated her description, smiling some at the way his accent changed the word. She looked over, eying the size he demonstrated, then shrugged, holding up her hand, flat, palm up, in return. "Think so. He was so small, he was just about the length of my hand, tail and all," she replied, then lowered her arm, "Maybe even a bit smaller than that. Believe he was bred to be small, though, like several of the other water pokemon you could win there." She frowned a little, thinking about it. It couldn't be much fun, being one of those pokemon... essentially living the life of a prize to be won in a game. Now more than ever, she was glad her dad had won Blue and brought him into their family....
She didn't expect Noah to suddenly interrupt their conversation, and jumped a bit at his abrupt appearance. She smiled, though, as he showed the shell to his trainer, but blinked, her jaw dropping in disbelief, at Lafayette's reaction. As soon as she recovered --which was about a second after Noah left to retrieve the shell, she gave Lafayette a light smack on the shoulder, staring at him with wide, incredulous eyes-- just short of a mix of amusement and disbelief. "Don' be so mean to him, 'Lala'! Poor little guy..." She gave a slight laugh, keeping things light, but looked sympathetically at the little otter as he returned once again. It was almost like a game of fetch, but it didn't look nearly as fun...
She shook her head a little, rbushing a hand back over her hair, and looked down at the water. For a moment, it seemed she had either forgotten, or hadn't quite heard, his question. "Suppose so. I like swimming. I'm a bit ambivalent on the ocean, given how aggressive some of the pokemon found in there can be. Good thing most of them are relatively benevolent," she mused thoughtfully, then lifted her gaze to him, "You? Or does that fall under your earlier answer of liking 'ta take a dip now and then'?"

"Well I didn’ pay for’em so…," Lafayette retorted, still giving a grin He laughed again though at her look, slapping a hand against his leg as he shook a little from the laughing. "Ya nevah know sheila. Peeps be strange like tha’." He beamed. With that though he relaxed and let that odd topic at least fade for the time being. He wasn’t about to strip tease for a bunch of rich people. Not his style. He quirked an eyebrow once more, smiling a bit slyly as Mel conceded that she wasn’t quite playing fair. "Yeh old enough ta drink sheila?" He semi-teased, glancing back to the pool smile still on his face as he relaxed again. Not that he really cared; Mel could sneak drink if she wanted, he certainly had a few times in his life, but she did look just a tad bit younger than him and well, he’d just recently become legal to drink so. "Sure I could dig up a tale or two… do alo’ a things." Maybe. Sure there was something he could talk about that wasn’t work related. Like, life stories or whatever.
Lafayette listened as well explained, watching curiously as she held up her hand to give a more definitive size. Wow…. That was… really small. Abnormally small. He found himself frowning as he considered people purposely breeding runts like that. "Huh… wha’ kinda whackah does that?" Yeah, yeah, you could sell pokemon for just about anything at anything, but purposely breeding them to be tinier than normal and making them near runts in comparison to their species? That was just dumb. If anything, it made them close to useless outside of those situations, at least in his mind. A pokemon that couldn’t battle decently were hardly worth keeping around. Absently he raised a hand to pat Cheri on the head, rubbing a thumb behind her ears as he considered some more.
Lafayette jumped when Mel smacked him for his response to Noah, a dumbfounded look crossing his face in response. "Whot?" He remarked, frowning just briefly before giving Mel a bit of ‘really?’ kind of look. He rolled his eyes and shook his head, smile slipping back across his face. "Pfff, don’ coddle’em Mello. He knows bettah." He remarked with a roll of his shoulders. "I don’ need him draggin’ up s**t fo’ me to be cartin’ around." If you gave Noah the chance he’d collect all kinds of garbage. Shells especially. Maybe that was why they avoided the water so much, to keep the Dewott from starting a hideous collection that his trainer would have to deal with. He didn’t want to crush the pokemon’s intentions but… yeah no, he wasn’t having it. He glanced down as Noah returned with the shell once more, not even bothering to offer it to Lafayette and instead setting it on the opposite side next to Cheri as though some silent communication had occurred that she would be the care taker of his ill-gotten treasures. The little pink Espurr just stared, still nibbling away on the pastry –lord was she taking her time eating that thing- staring at the Dewott as he dove back down into the waters, glancing at the shell briefly before nudging it off the edge with one of her legs. Lafayette smirked and gave her a pat. Good to see someone understood.
"Ocie’s jus’ a biggah pool there sheila." He remarked, though he did quirk an eyebrow at her response. "Pff, pokies ain’ scareh. Jus’ punch’em if they give ya trouble." He murmured, looking back down into the tank as he made a fist and gave it a show. It was evident he was rather serious about that claim too but it only lasted a moment as he dropped his fist back down, splashing the water a bit more. "S’pose yeh. There ain’ much watah in Ani though. Jus’ trees. More prone fa’ climbin’ than swimmin’. But I’ll take a dip or two when I can." He pulled his feet out of the water, standing up and stretching again as he peered down. "Can’ do much swimmin’ when there ain’ nothin’ ta swim in ya?"

Mel raised her eyebrows and tilted her head to the side. "Well, that's certainly true..." she admitted in amusement, which applied to both his remarks, but was said mostly in reference to the latter. People were strange, and sometimes... it kind of seemed like there was a correlation between strangeness and money. She wasn't quite sure that would be the case with this crowd, however. Her eyebrows raised in honest surprise at his question, and for a moment, she just sort of stared at him. She hadn't expected him to ask that. For a... variety of reasons. Finally, she scoffed, a smile of disbelief and amusement crossing over her face. "Wot, are you?" she asked through a half laugh. She was still a bit incredulous at the question. She always thought she looked... at least fairly mature enough. Certainly her age. Some of her friends said she even looked like she could pass for her twenties when she was seventeen. His question certainly had her second guessing this dress, though....
She shook her head a bit and leaned back on her hands, swishing her feet through the water. "Oh, really? You livin' an excitin' and full life, Lala?" she remarked with a teasing, entertained smirk. She gave a scoffing laugh and rolled her eyes at Lafayette's apparently sincere baffled reaction to how Blue came to be, and why he was so small. "Well, I mean, it was for a game. And there are people who want little pokemon, for show, or for companionship," she mused. The smile slowly started to fade a bit, though, as her thoughts returned. "Not sure I'd be so happy now that I've actually had time to think about it... It's a bit of a horrid thing, really, breeding pokemon like that, for that...." She shook her head, and smiled, looking back at the water with a softer expression. "Least I got Blue out of it all, though," she remarked with another faintly amused smirk. He was quite the character, and all...
She was distracted by Noah's reappearance, and his interaction with Lafayette, and after scolding him, her expression turned a bit quizzical at the clear confusion on his face. Did he really not get it? Oh, pff-- seeing his changed expression, did he really not think anything of it? "Oh it's not 'coddling' to be nice, Lala!" she laughed, keeping it light. Wait.... did he just call her 'Mello'? ... OKay, putting that off, for now... "Just because you don't need it doesn't mean you have to be quite so harsh about it. If he knows better, then can't you still at least acknowledge the trinket before asking him to put it back?" She gave a gesture as Noah seemed to try and continue insisting on keeping it. "I mean, clearly this method isn't any more effective," she pointed out with a smirk.
She narrowed her eyes a bit, her smirk growing, as Lafayette insisted on what seemed to be his general mentality. "Y'know, for all your talk, I still haven't seen you fight a pokemon off, yet," she remarked. She nodded and shrugged, looking back to the water. "But, fair point. S'pose you ought to take advantage of the ocean while you're nearby it, then, hm? Maybe you can find a sharpedo or two to fight off, too," she added with another playful look.

Brian sighed a bit. 'What's wrong?' piped Shaie. Brian blinked, then lifted his head, trying to listen, before turning to look for the Riolu, and finding him beside him. It wasn't like telepathic voices really gave much of an indication of location. Case in point... 'Phia has used one of the items.' Brian blinked when he recognized Z's rarely heard voice, but then jumped and suddenly leaped to his feet when he realized what he'd said. "WHAT!?" He quickly whipped his head around, before he finally noticed Phia, staring up at him with bright red eyes, the pokeball that had come in the packages right before her. "Wha... wait... did you... switch pokeballs?" he muttered, crestfallen. He paused, then leaned forward, reaching for the pokeball. He hesitated a moment when he noticed her eyes narrow at him. Staring back, nervously, he remained still, before finally risking it, and snatching up the ball. He pulled back a bit more quickly than normal, and eyed her back. After a pause (to make sure he wasn't about to set him aflame), he turned the ball-- and recalled her. Dammit... that meant this was her pokeball, didn't it? Well... no use keeping her inside it... he'd just have to let Mel know about all of this when he could...

Lafayette’s smirk became a full blown grin at the sight of Mel faltering. Ah yes, no matter what it always seemed to catch people off guard to be questioned on their ages and it was always humorous to see. When she asked if he was even old enough he laughed as well, slapping a hand to his chest, cheeky grin still present.
"Been hittin’ tha’ turps since I was a babe, Mello." He remarked, chest puffed at as a he spoke with a tone of pride, as though there was something to be proud about on that as opposed to something to be questioned. There wasn’t even a hint of joking in his tone either as he spoke; clearly he was rather serious about that claim.
His grin simmered down a bit as he relaxed once more, a mischievous sort of look in his eyes at her question. "Depends on who ya ask sheila." He mused, chuckling quietly to himself before considering a moment more on the situation of Blue. It still seemed like a stupid thing to do, even if they were meant for show. And companionship? What, where these people trying to keep these pokemon in their bags or something? Like mini-little carry arounds? All the same it seemed a waste of good pokemon, shrinking them in such ways. It was probably goo that Mel had gotten Blue and that in the end he wasn’t too scrawny looking. He couldn’t imagine the fate of larger sized creatures though.
"Mhm…," Was really the only finishing remark he could give concerning that whole affair. There didn’t seem to be much point in lecturing; Mel seemed to understand well enough the pitfalls of such things, there wasn’t anything he could add to make the point clearer. "Loike a’ said. Luckeh fish." He joked, shifting and looking back into the waters again.
"It’s coddlin’ sheila. Ya give an inch he’ll think it’s a’righ’. It ain’." He remarked rather firmly, frowning a moment as he thought about it. Was he being fair to Noah? He thought so. Was he a bit harsh? That he wasn’t quite sure; he was kind of use to being just abrasive about this kind of thing. A Noah seemed well aware that this what how things were, even if he continued to try and go around Lala’s intentions. He shook his head, letting the frown fade and smile return once more. His eyes practically sparkled at the suggestion the widest grin crossing his face as he sat up.
"Yeh wanna see me get in a blue with a pokie? ‘Cause I will." He lifted a hand up, pointing into the tank as he continued. "I’ll even take’a dive fa one to punch. I ain’ ‘fraid a them pokies." He settled back down, still looking amused and ready to probably take up the suggestion to dive into the water and find something to battle one on one to prove himself. "Ma’ da’ took on a Hax’eh once. Thinkin’ I can handle a Sharpie." He grinned again, head tilting as he eyed her some more. "Wha’ sheila, ya never consida’ takin’ a pokie? Good sport ya know."

Surprisingly, what Lala said didn't seem to phase Mel. Perhaps because she didn't have time to think on it, perhaps because she thought he was joking even though there was no sign of that, or perhaps because she had been drinking some since she was young, too, and just didn't think he was being serious, or severe, in his remark. Either way, her reaction was not concern-- no, it was a raised eyebrow, a smirk, a dropped shoulder and a tilt of her head. "That's not an answer, you know," she pointed out with amusement. She waved a hand at herself, and put on a haughty tone of voice. "I'm twenty-one. So, how old are you?" She dropped the act after the question, moving her hand back so she could resume leaning on it.
She quirked an eyebrow at his rather vague response. "That's not really an answer, either," she remarked, though it was mostly just to tease, than out of any sort of seriousness. She looked ahead, at the water, leaning back and kicking her feet up, steadily, so that she didn't create too big of a splash as they came up, or swung back down into the water. Her mind lingered on Blue, and that whole matter, for a moment more, but she smiled and looked up when Lafayette called him a 'lucky fish'. She was pretty positive he wasn't, but it almost seemed like Lafayette was flirting. Not in a serious, "Hey there~" sort of way, but just... asking about skinny dipping, the playful joking, a remark here or there... He didn't seem the sort to be interested in that kind of thing, really, she was fairly positive it was just making conversation, but she sort of wondered if any girls had ever got the wrong message from him.
Asking that kind of question would... probably make it seem like she was, too, though. Or that she was interested in that sort of thing. So, despite the nagging of her chronic curiosity, she kept her mouth shut, just giving him a curious look, before gazing back at the water. She was luckily distracted by Noah and his antics, and rolled her eyes a bit at Lala's insistence. "Well that's clearly not working, either," she remarked, gesturing, "He's obviously still stubbornly insisting on it, and all." She could feel the subject risking taking on an argumentative tone, but her stubbornness kicked in. "Don't you think there might be a better way without being so harsh...?" She felt bad for Noah, even if the little otter didn't seem overly crushed by his trainer's dismissal of the shell. Her heart still went out for him a bit.
She rolled her eyes, relaxing a bit, when Lafayette seemed almost eager to try and take on the pokemon. There was a smile on her face, but before she could reply, she felt Lucy come up behind her. She had leaned forward a bit, to look for Blue, but mostly Noah, after their previous subject, and started to straighten as she turned curiously back at her starter. "What's up Lu--" She stopped when she saw the far-too-big grin on her starter's face. There was probably a moment where she realized what was about to happen-- just before it happened. And before she could react, Lucy had lifted her hands, and given her trainer a good, solid shove, promptly toppling her into the water.
On reflex, Mel screamed, before disappearing under the water's surface. She reappeared almost instantly, locking eyes to her starter, who seemed to be grinning so she wouldn't burst out laughing. "LUCY!" The grin vanished and Lucy jumped as Mel immediately kicked her way to the edge, charging for the fire pokemon, who turned and quickly fled. Mel scrambled out of the water, got to her feet, and raced after her, despite now beign in a very wet dress. The sight was like something out of a cartoon-- Lucy ducking and dodging and weaving and fleeing, and Mel trying to catch her and cut her off. Eventually, she was able to grab her starter's tail, yank her back, and sweep her up in her arms, while holding the flame of her tail away. Lucy was flailing and crying out, while Mel narrowed her eyes at her, hugging her close, and marching back towards the water. Upon noticing their destination, Lucy began screeching, looking very sincerely terrified as she panicked and tried to free herself. After all, she and Mel knew each other, they'd bonded, they were friends, but they'd still only known each other days, not weeks, or months-- she didn't know whether Mel was about to actually drop her in the water or not. Mel stopped at the edge.... and then dumped Lucy off on the concrete just behind her. "You're lucky I'm not sure whether puttin' that fire of yours out would kill you, Lucy," she remarked, moving to sit back down, ruffling some of the water out of her hair.
Lucy was too busy hyperventilating and twitching while laying on her back to respond.
"Anyway..." Mel continued, wringing out her dress, "If you really want a challenge, I stand by my offer to let you wrestle Z. Sure you two can have a brawl once we get back from this thing, if you're still up to it."

Lafayette chuckled, head tilting again as he just eyed Mel with a lazy look, seeming to mull over her own response back. It hadn’t quite been what he expected, but it was nice to learn and so he simply grinned in return. "’Fair ‘nough sheila." He commented, giving the water another swat as he did before raising both hands, one with two fingers up and the other with one. "Twenty-one mahself. G’d enuf ta drink and all tha’ legalie stuff." Lafayette lowered his hands back down to the platform, thinking a moment. He did chuckle again as he mused, straightening up and thinking about a proper response.
"Mm… well, I don’ know. S’pose its wha’ counts as interestin’ ya know?" He replied. Which was probably about as honest an answer he could give. What people thought was interesting varied after all; maybe she’d think they were interesting or probably think he was crazy or boring or the like. It all depended.
As the conversation filtered back to how he treated his pokemon’s obsession, his expression faded and a frown once more took up a position. It wasn’t so much one of anger or agitation, but just sort of… confusion? As though maybe Lafayette didn’t quite understand the issue. "Well, he’s goin’ ta’ be stubb’en no matteh wha’. Bes’ ta jus’ stomp it ou’ now." He remarked, head tilting as he rubbed under his chin. "Noah’s stubb’en. " He just shrugged, directing his gaze down to the waters again to try and locate the Dewott in question. He seemed to be hovering close to the ground of the aquarium, dinging around in the sands below, probably looking for more little treasures. "Why, ya thinkin’ I should try somethin’ else? I ain’ got a clue." He glanced at Mel, an honest curious look on his face. He really didn’t know a better method and eventually, it got to Noah’s head that there would be no treasure collecting. Usually. Sometimes things snuck in and Lafayette had to throw them away.
Lafayette jumped, attempting snapping back to Mel from looking for Noah when he heard the sound of a loud ‘splash’ and scream. He went into full alarm mode as he stared at the sight, trying to piece together what all had happened, only to catch as Mel climbed her way out of the tank and gave chase after her Monferno. Soon she’d caught her starter and there was more screaming as the threat of the monkey taking a dumb loomed in the air before Mel promptly deposited the creature down to have a heart attack from the threat. Well damn.
The blonde didn’t respond to the offer, still staring at Mel with wide eyed disbelief as he still pieced the whole scenario together. Out of nowhere though his face cracked into a grin and he was flopping onto his back, practically rolling as he exploded into laughter. Probably not… the best response, given the situation, but the sight of Mel drenched wet with Lucy plastered in a panic on the floor was well… it was a sight. A hilarious sight. And damnit, Lafayette was going to laugh.
Eventually he stopped choking and rasping for air, sitting up and using a fist to rub away the tears that had sprouted in his eyes from the laughing fit. He didn’t even care that his own tuxedo was slightly damp; at least he wasn’t in the same situation as Mel.
"Oh…. Oi Mello. That… that was ace. Jus’… jus’ ace." He wheezed, trying to catch his breath. He took a deep breathe, sitting himself up properly, grin still plastered on his face as he wiped away more tears. "Yeh righ’ sheila?" He finally inquired about her well being, still trying to catch his breath. Cheri, finally finishing the last bite of her food, looked from Mel curiously to Lucy, staring at the monkey blankly as she tried to recuperate herself as well. How... odd...

For some reason, Lafayette's answer surprised her, and it showed. Mel's eyebrows raised and her eyes widened a bit. For some reason, she had thought he was older than that. Closer to twenty-four, twenty-five, maybe even older. Then again, he did seem... well, not immature, per se, but... impulsive? That didn't necessarily determine, or even suggest, age, though. "Really?" she remarked, a curious, perplexed sort of smile on her face. She paused, then shrugged, looking back towards the water. "I bet you were able to pass for twenty when you were still a mid-teen, weren't you?" For some reason, he seemed like it. Her brother was sort of like that. He looked like he was twelve until he hit sixteen, and by the time he was seventeen, he was getting mistaken for being in his twenties. He'd been such an angry little munchkin till that growth sport.... and then he was just a sour giant.
Mel paused, then tilted her head in concession. "Fair enough," she admitted in return, suddenly wishing she had a beer or something to drink. Maybe it was the salt water, but she was getting thirsty... She glanced over at Lafayette as he insisted on her ways with Noah, but couldn't help the frown on her face. She understood what he was saying, but she just didn't agree. And she seemed determined to argue the point, as if repeating herself, or insisting, might make him understand or change his mind. She got the impression stubbornness probably wasn't the way to go, but... Maybe it tugged at her, or maybe some part of her associated it to something it wasn't -- even though she knew it wasn't -- and made the subject more than it was, but she could feel herself very quickly starting to hold on and refuse to let go. To her surprise, though, Lafayette actually seemed open to suggestions, and she glanced at him, before straightening a bit, relaxing, and composing herself. "Well, I don't know... I'm sure there's a gentler way to go about it. Why don't you... let him keep only a few of them, and tell him that if he wants to keep anything else, he has to throw out something he's already got?" she suggested, gesturing a bit, "You could even give him some little bag or something so he has to carry it himself. That way he's fully responsible with it, but doesn't go grabbing things nilly willy, and trying to stuff them in with your belongings." Obviously, she didn't know Noah that well, so she wasn't sure how sound the suggestion was, and her tone gave that way. But, it was a starting point... and she was determined to try and turn this into a discussion.
Even if she was... doomed to be a little interrupted at times, like with Lucy's antics. Luckily she recovered quickly and easily, but she jumped when Lafayette, on the other hand, suddenly burst out laughing. She looked at him, startled, but then relaxed when she realized he was laughing at her interaction with her starter, a smile crossing her face, and a sly glance towards Lucy catching her eye. She looked back at Lafayette, trying to brush some of the water out of her dress. "I'm fine," she reassured him, though she reached up to place a hand on his shoulder and use him to stand back up, trying to drain the water from her dress a bit more effectively with gravity. "Glad you enjoyed the show, though," she added playfully, flashing a smirk. She glanced over as Bubbles surfaced, giving a curious chirp, and noticed Blue briefly surface as well, likely investigating the source of the commotion, but both returned to swimming once reassured everything was fine. They might need to head back downstairs soon, though, thinking about it...

"Hm?" Lafayette remarked, eyebrow quirking as he eyed Mel and her reaction. He didn’t quite expect that response to his age, though once she inquired if he got mistaken for older a lot he started to get it. "Ahhh… hm… I dunno sheila. Nah realleh." He shrugged. He had a bit of a baby face when he was younger and all, but he was causing far too much trouble for him to recall if people ever cared about his age or not. "Was too buseh havin’ blues an’ such." He raised a hand and scratched under his chin, still considering the thought.
He listened a moment as she explained alternatives to just scolding and crushed in the Dewott’s hopes, his expression ambiguous as he did. His head tilted once more, a slight frown threatening to replace the ambiguity as he did. He could already tell Mel seemed like the friendly sort when it came to given pokemon a chance and everything; commendable really. It was probably best not to imply that he ultimately… didn’t quite feel the same. For him, pokemon were creatures with a nature of their own; you could be nice and friendly and earn their trust and all that good stuff but still in the end they were dangerous beasts with the ability to kill a normal human. He preferred to just establish that he was the top dog in his group and that meant being tough. Being gentle? That’d get you walked all over. He wasn’t about to crush Mel’s hopes of a more peaceful resolution.
"Mm… I’ll consid’ah it sheila. Still ain’ lookin’ to have to deal with him and some shell collect’in." He smirked, dropping his hand back to his lap. Maybe he’d think about it, but probably not. He was a stubborn one and was more use to his ways. And Noah was stubborn too; he wasn’t giving that Dewott an edge.
Lafayette was still recovering from the excellent laugh he’d gotten over Mel and Lucy’s antics, still trying hard to catch his breath. He had the stupidest grin still plastered on his face as his breathing corrected, not at all phased as she used him for balance as she stood herself up to try and dry further. He glanced over as her pokemon resurfaced to see what was going on. Even Noah eventually reappeared, arms full of shells again as he blinked and stared at Mel questioningly.
"Rippah of a show, sheila. G’dya know ya fine." He grinned, waiting a moment once she was standing on her own before following suit and getting up on his own feet, snatching up his tuxedo coat off the ground and swiping it out. "Though, ya ain’ gonna dry fast enough… what’cha gonna do?" He inquired, glancing back towards the way they came. He had a feeling eventually Mel’s disappearance would be noticed; it was her mother’s party after all and most parents kept up on their children at these events, no matter how old they were. "Dun think yeh can say it came a gustah or anythin’…. Probable." He grinned. "Should realleh ge’ that monkeh a’ yours undah control sheila."

Mel stared at Lafayette a moment. Havin' blues and such.... She remembered him using that term before, too. 'Blues'. She got the impression it meant something like... fights, but it was such an odd term. How did it even come about? From the whole... 'beating you black and blue', thing? Hm... She had to stop herself from overthinking it, and though she considered asking to be sure, she was fairly confident of her understanding-- given Lafayette's personality and previous use, she at least didn't have much reason to doubt it. "I see..." she replied rather vaguely, before turning to look at the water with a thoughtful expression. She was still a bit turn between pondering the origin of that term.... and Lafayette himself. He sure was an odd fellow. Fighting... and fighting pokemon? She was starting to wonder if he was perhaps one of those guys that was still alive through sheer luck-- and maybe like 30% willpower.
Mel smiled, looking a bit content with Lafayette's... 'concession'. She wasn't even sure, herself, whether she believed him or not, but the fact that he was even willing to pretend to consider it seemed to make her rather happy. Maybe because it gave a false sense of accomplishment, who knew. She wasn't exactly thinking hard on it, or bothering to question his sincerity. Additionally, stopping now would... probably avoid things from turning into a possible argument. Insisting meant risking triggering either of their tempers (assuming he hd one, which she was at least half positive he did).
This also allowed things to focus more on the more... positive (?) atmosphere that followed. Mel was still smiling, glad Lafayette derived so much amusement from the 'show', but glanced over when he asked what she was going to d. She seemed to give it some consideration. "I dunno... any of your pokemon know Heat Wave, by chance?" she asked curiously. That might help her dry off. Times like these, she was glad she had short hair. She rolled her eyes, though, and scoffed a bit at his final comment, still smirking some. "I've only had her a few days, Lala," she replied, still trying to swipe and wring the water out of her dress, "And I'm pretty sure she learned her lesson." She raised an eyebrow at him, then shot an indicative glance down to Lucy, who, unlike her trainer, was still recovering from the scare. The monkey did eventually push herself up, though, looking a bit worn and twitchy, but evidently intent to at least try and sit up.

Lafayette just grinned in response, watching Mel as she took in his remarks. Whether she was still understanding what he was saying, just watching quietly as she watched the water for that moment. He turned his gaze that way as well, a slight frown returning as once more Noah returned with various shells to add to a small pile that had managed to form out of the corner of his eye. He was half-tempted to shove them back into the tank again but resisted, if only to not have Mel scold him about it. He’d do it later, when they were getting ready to leave and all.
Lafayette gave Mel another grin as she inquired if any of his pokemon knew Heat Wave, chuckling in response. "’Fraid not sheila. Left my fiyah pup with tha’ rest fa’ trainin’." He commented, gesturing to Noah and Cheri. "Most I can offah is another’ soakin’ and maybe some mind games. Maybe Cheri can make ya think ya dry." He mused, slapping his hand back onto a knee. He tilted his head curiously though when she mentioned only having Lucy for a few days. "Oh? Then shouldn’ she got so firey moves?" He glanced at the monkey as she seemed to recover herself. "Clearl’eh needs some more trainin’ Mello. Should git on that."

Mel smiled, giving a sort of nod-shrug as Lafayette confessed he couldn't really help her with the matter of drying off. She chuckled a bit at the mention of Cheri's potential usefulness, though. "Ah, yeah, no, I think I'd rather have an accurate perception of reality," she remarked back, smirking, "Or, well, as accurate as I can, at least." She finished trying to wring the water from her dress and brush it out, before straightening and walking back over to the edge. "She does, but I'm not sure if being punched by fire will dry me off so much as... burn me, my clothes, and leave a hefty bruise," she pointed out, giving him a smug, playful look.
She called to the pokemon down below and went to get the pokeballs, flashing Lafayette an 'Oh really?' sort of look as she did. "Yeah? You want a battle ta confirm that?" she replied back sharply. She was utterly confident that Lucy had been trained more than enough, regardless of whatever... 'training' he might be talking about in particular.

Lafayette chuckled, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "Yeh sure sheila? Yeh be a riot am sure." He teased, considering what it would be like to have Mel just acting as though she weren’t in a wet dress around others. He didn’t think Cheri had that level of power though (or hoped not anyway, he certainly wasn’t going to deal with it) and so he just nodded as Mel mentioned that Lucy’s only fire move was a punching one and that would probably cause damage.
"F’nough." He remarked. He certainly didn’t want her clothes getting burned off; that would raise a lot of questions probably that he was not about to answer if it could be helped. He glanced at his tux coat a moment before offering it out to her to use.
"’Ere. So ya don’ go freezin’." He remarked, glancing over as Noah resurfaced as well. He gave a jerk of his head to indicate that the Dewott get his backside out of the water. He had to avoid twitching and rolling is eyes as Noah climbed out with even more shells. He had to have had about twenty by now it was a little much. He was about to just kick them back in when he remembered Mel was still there, instead pausing and trying to mull over his words.
"Noah, ye can’ keep all them shellies mate. Yeh get five, that’s it." Lafayette commented, earning a whine of discontentment from his pokemon. Yeah, that was pretty much what he expected but Noah was for the moment, lucky he was letting him keep any. Another response like that and it would be nothing.
"Yeh heard meh mate. Don’ b***h." Lafayette retorted with a frown. Noah’s cheeks puffed out but he refrained from another response, instead turning to his collection and beginning to pick through it carefully to try and figure out which ones he’d keep. Lafayette watched a moment looking back at Mel. "Wha’s next sheila? Yeh wantin’ ta get ya rage on?" He commented, grinning a little as he folded his arms over his chest.
