Grant was mapping out some plans for his next rock climbing adventure when he heard he had a challenger. Of course, he got some heads up on this, seeing as the individual had to climb their way up to him, but once they reached the top he put his maps away and placed his hands on his hips. He blinked when the young man stuttered in his greeting, though. Perhaps he was nervous. "Welcome, Theodore Lamperouge," he greeted, giving a nod, "Your challenge is accepted!" He dropped his arms, but reached for a pokeball at his waste. "If you're ready, I'll be starting with Amaura!" he declared, releasing the pokemon onto the battle stage.

Well, that sucked. He was kind of hoping he wouldn't start with Amaura. But, that was okay. Eli wouldn't stand much of a chance against his Amaura, though, so he'd have to change his tactic for now. Grabbing a pokeball, Theo took a breath before letting Ariel out. Ice-type moves wouldn't hurt her that much and Rok moves did normal damage. Right now, she was all he could rely on. Hopefully she did enough damage to Amaura so he could send Eli out for the final blow before she was knocked out."Alright, Ariel. Do your best, okay?""Psy~?"He...hoped that was an "I will". Honestly, she always sounded like she was confused. It was hard to tell.

Grant clapped his hands together as his opponent's pokemon was released, eying the pokemon a moment. A water type... yep, that seemed about right. "Alright Amaura, let's go with our signature type, and use Rock Tomb!" he instructed. It wouldn't do much as far as its side effect benefiting them, but it was their best shot at doing the most damage. Even Take Down would become an ice type, and thus not very effective, if he tried using it.

Grant folded his arms over his chest. It seemed this would be a focused battle, which was fine by him. "Stick it out, Amaura!" he called out, as his pokemon braced against the attack. It shook its head, stepping forward as it recovered. "Use another Rock Tomb!" At this point, it was best to stick with that tactic. He was sure the young man had other pokemon, but for now, this one was his main concern, and his only option was brute force.

Grant stood with his shoulders back and his arms crossed over his chest, awaiting his opponents next move. It ended up being a slightly surprising one. He sent out a dunsparce, a pokemon Grant rarely saw in the kalos region, let alone his gym. "Huh." He shifted, squaring off to the battle field. "Let's go with Aurora Beam, Amaura!" he advised. At least without type advantages or disadvantages, he could start trying for a bit of strategy.

Defense Curl wasn't going to do anything. His best bet was to go ahead and just use Rollout as much as he could. Which probably wasn't going to be a lot given how things were right now. At least Rollout would be incredibly effective against Amaura while it lasted."Just go ahead and use Rollout, Dunban."Theo looked over to see Olivia looking a little embarrassed. If only she was strong enough to withstand even one hit from Amaura's attacks. At this point, even her Ember would be enough to take out the bedazzled dinosaur.

Oh, well now. Grant was actually faced with a bit of a conundrum here. Technically, it might be a very good idea to apply some paralysis here, but given that rollout got stronger the longer it went, and paralysis was far from guaranteed, it might be better to try and stop it sooner. And that was best done by trying to take the pokemon out. Grant bowed his head, lifting a hand in a thoughtful gesture as he analyzed the situation. Not to mention, aurora beam had a chance to diminish it's power. Alright.
Mind made up, Grant straightened once more. "Stick with Aurora Beam, Amaura!" he instructed. For now, it was their best bet, but if he needed to, he would see if he couldn't land that status condition in a last ditch effort. For now though, he was going to try and just bring the pokemon down.
