Brock bowed his head, watching carefully. A water attack... Well, that was that. Sighing, Brock returned his pokemon. Well.... That was certainly that. It was only when some sunlight hit her eyes that Sable realized that the group had left the forest while her thought process had gotten horribly derailed. Even worse, the desert trainer was now aware that she had lapsed into quite a bit of silence during the walk through what was left of the woods. She let out an embarrassed chuckle and lightly rubbed the back of her head."Yeah... Uh..."The teen was desperately trying to recall what they had even been talking about in the first place. She did eventually grab onto one of the topics floating around, although it wasn't exactly the one they had been focused on earlier."Actually, I think I'll have to pass on that,"she told her current travel companion, a bit of regret in her voice.
Knowing that her statement could probably be taken the wrong way, Sable cleared her throat and tried again."I mean, don't get me wrong. I'm sure you and your team would be fun to watch. I just..."At this, the teen hesitated and put a hand in one of the pockets of her pants. After a moment, she found what she was looking for and pulled the hand back out, the beedrillite in hand."...I kinda want to work with Honey a bit. I've never used a mega stone before, and..."Once again, Sable hesitated, but this time she used the pause to glance over at Jin. She wasn't sure she liked being doubtful around one of her teammates, but she also wasn't sure it would be all that good to hide her doubts about his little gift for her.
Eventually, she sighed in defeat and began talking again."..I'm not sure I'll be able to... keep things under control..."It was hard for her to admit that, and a few times it seemed like the words wouldn't come out. For her, admitting something like that was painful, as if it signified some fault of hers as a trainer. It was especially uncomfortable to admit that around Jin and Darren. Darren because she had just told him about how trainers and their pokemon had to trust one another without some hunks of metal just a short while ago and Jin because, well, he was one of her pokemon! She felt it made her sound rather hypocritical, considering mega stones were supposed to work off of the bond of trust between humans and pokemon.
Instead of being off put by the idea, though, Jin instead hooked an arm around the side of his trainer's neck and yanked her close to get her into a side hug."Hey, c'mon. Don't pressure yourself too much, sis,"he told her, the roughness of the initial pull exchanged for a bit of gentle rubbing along the upper arm now that he actually had the trainer close."Sure, I kinda expect you to have that mega evolving stuff down pat one of these days, but I'd honestly be surprised if you pulled it off perfectly the first time."The dark type gave his trainer a light squeeze and smiled."If you feel like you need some baby steps, then that's probably the best plan. Have both of you get used to it when nothing's provoking either of you, and then work your way up to actually using it in a stressful situation."

Darren nodded as Sable suggested that his new Burmy would probably appreciate the trip to the pokemon center. "Absolutely. I was gonna give all my pokemon a quick touch up before I face Brock anyways, but the poor little guy could probably use it the most." He agreed, though Sable seemed to get horribly distracted by something, deep in thought as they moved through the forest. Darren wasn't bothered though, letting his own mind wander as he took in the surrounding forest, the fresh smells, the sounds of chirping pokemon and rustling leaves. It was a wonderful morning so far. Sable seemed to snap back to reality as they exited into Pewter though, rather disoriented too.
Feeling the need to help get her mind back on track, he restated their plan, going to the pokemon center, healing up, getting that photo, exchanging contact information. It seemed to help a little bit, but it still felt like Sable was struggling, and rather regretful as she declined to watch his battle. She insisted that she wanted to work with Honey, and Darren looked at her with a quizzical smile. "Hey, c'mon, it's fine, I was kidding~ You don't have to feel bad." He reassured her. "I mean if you wanted to watch I wouldn't mind either, but I don't expect you to. No hard feelings." He shrugged, the still strong smile on his face. Though, when Sable shifted nervously, he could tell that wasn't the issue. There was something else on her mind, so he quieted and gave her a chance to think, and eventually speak when she felt ready.
She had been talking about working with Honey and the megastone she'd earned at the tanabata, Darren thought nothing of it until finally Sable highlighted the issue he hadn't seen; keeping Honey under control. It was clearly a blow to her pride to actually admit something like that, and Darren looked over her with light concern. Thankfully Jin swooped in to help lighten the mood, insisting that Sable shouldn't pressure herself like that, since he'd be surprised if she pulled off mega evolution the first time. "Right, and not just you... I'd be surprised if anyone got it perfectly the first time really. It's not exactly the easiest process, and you and Honey haven't known each other for very long. Don't set impossible standards for yourself, like Jin said, baby steps." Darren nodded towards the disguised Zorua. "If anything though, Honey clearly adores you, so that should help a little bit, on the other hand, you should probably try and relax her into a less hyper state before attempting to mega evolve." He suggested thoughtfully, recalling how hug happy the beedrill had been.
They made their way into the pokemon center, and Darren paused for a moment to return Flynn and hand his pokemon over to Nurse Joy to be healed before turning his attention back to Sable again. "If you want, I could wait to challenge Brock for a while longer and go with you. I want to use Lapis against him anyways, and we haven't been able to train much together. It'd be pretty silly to think I'd be one of those people that can get it the first time, every time,"she admitted, giving the two males a light smile. She then tried to pull herself out of Jin's hug. Gently at first, then more trying to tug herself free when it became obvious she wasn't getting out of the hug without effort."Uh, Jin? When are you planning on letting me go?"the teen asked once it became apparent she wasn't going to be freed by her own efforts, at least not without actually hurting the disguised Zorua.
Jin gave the teen a light squeeze as the group continued walking along. He had a good grip on her so she couldn't slip out, but he wasn't trying to hurt her."Oh, until one of two conditions are fufilled,"he told his trainer, flashing her a toothy grin afterwards."The first, and more preferrable, condition being that you actually are feeling better. Sable couldn't help grumbling a bit at the sudden revealation that she had been kept in that hug for the remaining walk to the pokemon center. She was rather quick to regain her appearance, though, and walked into the building looking no worse for wear. That didn't keep her from feeling uncertain when Darren offered to put off his battle to help her out."...Well..."A large part of her was shouting at her to tell him no, tell him she had her team with her, tell him she'd be safe... But she had caught on to his worry, and she didn't like the idea of him being too worried about her."...Alright. It'd be.. Good to... Well... It'd be good."she struggled for a moment to figure out what she wanted and was willing to say before settling on the rather lame comment.
Jin let his trainer flounder word-wise and wander off to the pc to get that picture uploaded and decided to do a bit of wandering himself. He thought he spotted someone familiar when the group came in and figured he might as well go see if it was who he thought. He nonchalantly moved closer to the guy that just got sat on by someone else and, sure enough, it was who he expected."Hey there, Ezra. Hope I'm not interrupting something,"he said to the teen, giving a slight smirk as he glanced at the person sitting on him."Sorry about that. It's just been a bit since we crossed paths,"he told them, giving the person using Ezra as a cushion a more normal smile before glancing back over at where his trainer was finishing up with getting that picture from her camera uploaded and messaged to Darren and herself.

Darren felt a bit awkward she suggested that it'd be silly if she thought she could be the type of person to get it right the first time every time. "Er... I didn't mean it like.... W-what I'm trying to say is that... It's not like it's just you Sable, I don't think anyone could pull that off. We can't be perfect, so holding yourself to that kind of standard just... Isn't healthy. I mean, it's good to have confidence in yourself too but... Um...." He fumbled, feeling like his words weren't helping the situation any further, just digging himself in a deeper hole. So much for talking about having confidence in oneself. Thankfully Sable seemed to be more distracted by the fact that Jin wasn't going to let her out of his hug until his "conditions" had been fulfilled. Darren chuckled as the two struggled along into the pokemon center, which apparently was one of Jin's conditions, but as for feeling better.... Well, to be honest this was probably the best Jin was going to get out of her for now.
When he asked about possibly training with her, or rather just a short distance away to make sure nothing went too terribly bad, he noticed er discomfort rather easily. He'd been with her long enough by now to know that she didn't like to be viewed as weak, or feel babied. It wasn't that he thought she couldn't handle it, though... He supposed it probably came off that way, even though it wasn't entirely true. He knew Sable was strong, he knew her team was too, but the idea of Sable going into a potentially very dangerous situation and just plain out not knowing if it had all gone wrong was enough to make Darren feel a small sense of panic. Was it unlikely things would get that bad? Yes, but was there a chance they could? Absolutely, and with that small chance, Darren's paranoia couldn't help but force him into the issue, even if he felt terrible about imposing on Sable's bonding time with Honey.
....It probably didn't help the blow to her pride either. Darren tried not to grimace as Sable lamely agreed, clearly struggling with the answer as she moved to the PC. Darren hesitated and followed, wanting to insist that it was okay for Sable to tell him no, to explain that he really needed to know whenever she felt he was intruding, or being too nosey, or even just making her uncomfortable. He just didn't know where to set boundaries a lot of the time, at least until he'd already crossed them. Because of that though, he wondered if he should just accept Sable's invitation and drop the topic instead of potentially making her more uncomfortable, or feel like he was attempting to guilt her into actually being okay with him nearby, or just trying to get attention by making sure she knew it was okay to tell him no. Or maybe that would come off as really snarky instead...? Because, of course she knew she could tell him to back off, not doing so was taking her great effort, or at least that's what it appeared to be... "R-right..... Don't worry, you won't even notice I'm there!" He attempted to reassure her, or maybe himself to the fact that he would try not to impose. Arceus, what was he even trying to prove at this point? Other than the fact that he could spectacularly fall flat on his face verbally of course. "I mean... Um.... mm..." He clamped his mouth shut to prevent him from saying anything farther to make the situation more uncomfortable. Sometimes it was just for the best to not say anything at all.
With that thought in mind, he let Sable work at the computer to get the picture emailed and/or texted to him, wondering if maybe he should just go attempt to beat Brock anyways. He really hadn't fought at all using Lapis before though, so using her suddenly in a gym battle seemed cruel. He could always just go with Pascal, but the Chespin was strong enough as it was, and Darren wanted the experience to go to.... Well, frankly less experienced members of his team. They couldn't be too inexperienced though, otherwise Brock's pokemon would crush them. It was a delicate balance that needed--
Darren's train of thought was interrupted as he heard someone thank "Flynn", causing the brunette to blink and turn around, his Charmeleon glancing over rather curiously as well at the sound of his nickname being used. As he turned, Darren found himself facing the nearby couch which Jin had approached, and noticed that Jin was talking to two other trainers on the couch. He apparently knew them, or at least one of them, since the boy who also had a Charmander named Flynn introduced himself as Mitsu, a friend of the boy whom Jin had addressed as Ezra. "Hm....?" Darren blinked, but his moment of confusion melted away into a smile. "You named your Charmander Flynn too...?" He inquired with a tiny bit of excitement at having something in common with a total stranger. It was things like this that made traveling quite interesting. "Mitzu and... Ezra was it? Heya, I'm Darren~ It's nice to meet you." He greeted politely, curious about these friends of Jin's.

Sable gave Darren a halfhearted attempt at a smile and nodded when he tried to... Do whatever it was he was trying to do with what he was saying. She figured he was trying to be comforting or something along those lines, but considering what she was worried about, she wasn't sure she liked the idea of her backup not being noticeable. In either sense that phrase might be taken. Still, she knew she couldn't really say something without making the situation any more awkward than it already was, so she instead focused on getting her picture e-mailed to both of the addresses Darren had given her.
Jin grinned as the person that just got off Ezra's lap introduced himself and let him know what was up."Nice ta meetchya, Mitsu~ I'm Jin, if you couldn't tell already~"he replied, offering a hand for a handshake."And nice job with your win."He figured he aught to add on that last bit, since Brock wasn't exactly a pushover. Sure, he had to us a weaker team than other leaders in the region, but he made do with what he had and still gave beginning trainers a run for their money.
The zorua hadn't thought much on the nickname Mitsu had for his charmander until he noticed Darren walk over. Oh. Right. That was amusing, and Jin couldn't help but chuckle slightly as Darren commented on the coincidence."To be fair, it does seem to be a popular name,"the dark-haired teen commented before letting out a cheery laugh as Trinity circled above his head."Nice to see you again, too."It still felt off for him to be that close to a fairy, but at least the big one didn't seem to be around at the moment. Now sis and Darren are in need of some badges, and it'd be easier for sis to continue what she was doing out here than pop back over to Unova and have to start from scratch,"he explained, having managed to fail noticing that Sable had been walking over while he was chatting.
Sable frowned lightly as she heard the dark type once more refer to her as "sis." Instead of commenting on it, she just sighed lightly and put a hand on the dark type's shoulder. It was enough to startle Jin and make him look at who was there, but right now the teen wasn't really in the mood for chastising him for his choice of what to call her."Since we were gonna be passing through here anyway, I figured it couldn't hurt for us to hang around while Darren got his badge,"she offered as the rest of the explanation for why the duo were in Pewter at the moment. She then gave a bit of a wave to Mitsu with her off hand."I'm Sable, by the way."It wasn't quite as nice of an introduction as Jin's or Darren's had been, but it was still an introduction.

Also, I'm tempted to have one of Sable's worst-case scenarios (not written down yet for reasons) be what occurs when she tries working with Honey. Just... Darren nodded politely as Ezra confirmed his name, though also pointed out the nickname Mitsu had given him, perhaps even just recently, since Ezra didn't seem too familiar with it as his own nickname yet. He felt horrid when Mitsu corrected him on the pronunciation of his name though, not in the least aware that he'd done so. To him, the correction sounded exactly the same as what he had said, since he spoke tzu and tsu in the same way, it was really hard for him to make the distinction until Mitsu pointed out that there was less of an emphasis on the Z and more of an S sound. "A-ah! I'm terribly sorry!" He apologized, ear turning a bit red in embarrassment. He has clearly offended this boy unintentionally, and wanted to try to pronounce the name correctly to make up for it, but at the same time he was afraid to try again and butcher it again, or pause for so long between the T and the S that it just made the name sound uncomfortable. What a great first impression he was making.... A+ for effort.
"S-so, more of an s then? M...mit...su. Mitsu." The pressure he felt to get it right didn't help, and the final product still didn't sound any different to him, but he had tried to put forth more of an S sound, rather that pressing that hard TZ sound out. At least things were rather light on the fact that he and Mitsu had the same name for their starters. "I wouldn't doubt it's a popular name~ It certainly sounds adventurous, and I know my Flynn was ready for an adventure the moment I saw him." He grinned, patting the Charmeleon's head. Flynn growled happily at the affection and glanced between the two other Charmander present, one of which, whom didn't share his name, was looking at him with a bit of jealousy. Flynn could only assume that the Charmander wanted to be evolved as well. Flynn could understand, giving Felix a friendly smile and sway of his thick, scaly tail.
Darren couldn't help but smile at the Togetic flying about Jin's head in greeting before focusing on Ezra's question of why they were still here, as well as Jin's answer, nodding in agreement. Mitsu seemed to recognize the festival they'd mentioned as Tanabata though, and Darren's expression lit up. "Yeah! That's the one." He nodded, grin still lasting as Mitsu mentioned that he and Ezra had been there on their date. "Well I'm glad you two were able to catch it. We had no idea something like that even existed until some passersby explained it for us." He chuckled sheepishly, placing his hands in his pockets. Sable then appeared to give her two cents, explaining that they were going to pass through the area anyways on their way to Misty, so hanging back while Darren battled with Brock wouldn't hurt. "Yes... Thank you for that. I've really been enjoying the company." He smiled, turning his attention to Mitsu's phione as she returned with a pokeball before being picked up and introduced as Mizu. Darren blinked a bit. two Flynns, and Mitsu and a Mizu, this was going to get really confusing, really fast for him. Mizu was easier because it didn't have a T tripping him up, so this time it was clear the sound of the name was an actual Z, or at least.... He hoped that was the case so that Mitsu didn't think lowly of him. Darren hated making bad impressions. It was interesting however that the black phione seemed to greet them wordlessly at first, then aloud, though Darren wasn't sure why. "Hello there!" Darren greeted with a smile. Mizu was a beautiful phione, he couldn't help but feel awed looking at her.
Now that Sable was here though.... "So were you able to get the picture sent?" He asked her with a smile, already checking his Xtransceiver for any new messages.
