Round 4 - Day 1 - Roll 1: General Grid
Brown Hessianth: 14/14 hp
Held saves: 0

Quote:
It's a classic textbook maneuver. An ugly strand of Thread is falling down, drifting, blowing, squirming on the wind. If it stays course it will put it right in your airspace. Your dragon shifts position, veers, and manages to catch the tangle with a belch of flame. Nothing to this Thread thing, nope!

Everybody was still in the air for now, but as brother changed for brother to take up responsibility for everybody, Hessianth couldn't help but feel a surge of irritation. He needs to learn to watch himself first, he informed L'nik privately and his rider thumped his shoulder. He learned his lesson and if he didn't, we will see, though he had the feeling that nearly getting hit several times would have cooled off that pair just a bit.

Hessianth's distaste was talking, that was all. As long as L'nik could keep his mind of his own from going wherever it pleased and on focus, they would do well together. This flaming thing was getting a little easier as they went, but L'nik couldn't help but start longing for the ground.

Round 4 - Day 1 - Roll 2: General Grid
Brown Hessianth: 14/14 hp
Held saves: 0

Quote:
Your dragon spots a silver strand of Thread. You visualize the space you need to go to flame it, but don't take into account the wind, or your dragon's flight speed. Instead, you appear Between but have completely overshot your airspace and are now out in the open, exposed, and with no Thread anywhere near you. Shaffit all! Don't you look the fool. Whoops

It was keeping Hessianth focused as L'nik;s mental exhaustion started to creep in that was the problem. The brown was eager to watch over all of his siblings as though certain that no others would, and even when urged elsewhere, Hessianth just was starting to feel the droop kicking in. When that sent them off target, L'nik slapped his hands against his cheeks to try and perk himself up. I'm telling Therianth that we both lost our gusto if we don't pick up! Of course, this meant telling Shahera that as well and as such he wasn't really planning on it, but the threat to perk-up seemed to at least alarm Hessianth into a bit better awareness.

We'll be home before we know it, let's hold out.

Brown Hessianth: 9/14 hp
Held saves: 0

You appear from Between..... directly into a clump of Thread. It sears through your dragons wingsails, and you can feel it tangling up on your leg! The wherhide fabric doesn't seem to offer any protection at all, shaffit all! You finally remember to visualize and go Between, but you're certainly hurting. -5 HP Threadscore.

Maybe he'd instilled too much fervor into Hessianth with his threat, because the next jump was a bit hastier than L'nik would have liked, and upon emerging from between he was prepared to tell his lifemate to roll it back a bit when he realized just what they'd jumped into the middle of.

Round 4 / Day 1 / Roll 1: Standard Grid
Blue Loreleth: 5/12 HP
Held saves: 0

They two came out of the cold of Between.... directly into a clump of Thread. J'lar was both terrified, exasperated, and concerned as once again, the silver Thread tangled and twisted around them. Loreleth's pained squeal echoed in his mind, along with the burning, tearing pain. It was close to agony, but he pictured a spot out of the tangle, and urged his beloved to make the leap.

In another moment, the two were gone...

Only to reappear higher up. The blue dragon was once more stained with ichor. Parts of his wingsails were now tattered and frayed, and his neck, face, and shoulders were more green than blue. Still, the blue dragon's eye had not been damaged, though his cheek and and throat looked frayed.

"You okay?" J'lar croaked, leaning down and over, wanting to get a better look but limited from where he sat. He brushed at his own pants and shoulders, ignoring the renewed pain in his leg, back, and shoulder. He wondered if they should go back but... didn't feel like he was being eaten alive. That was probably just as well, really. If Thread had wormed its way in, he was a goner anyway.... No, he could go on.

The question was whether or not Loreleth could?

The blue dragon's eyes were a mix of yellow-white. I...will be okay, Mine. I promise. It... it is okay. The blue didn't want to return to the Weyr and leave his fellows. He hurt, but he could, and would, work with the pain. He wanted to be as strong as all of them, as strong as his rider; he wouldn't betray them, wouldn't leave before he absolutely had to.

Still...Another bad hit and J'lar wasn't sure Loreleth's constitution could take it. But, he wasn't going to push. Not... Not yet.

Round 4 / Day 1 / Roll 1: General Grid
Blue Tinanath: 12/12 HP Acting Wingsecond
Held saves: 0

Before Savaceth had even finshed her words, Tinanath darted up to replace Illiandinth at the head of the formation. He already knew what her request was, ignoring her commanding tone. I thank you for the opportunity to prove myself as a leader, he told the green, then to Ph'ton he said, I knew it was only a matter of time! We shall show them what we can do! His words were filled with more than his usual pride. He'd outdo his brothers at this, easily!

We still gotta pay attention! Ph'ton's eyes scanned the sky and spotted a tangle of Thread drifting on the wind toward them. There! he pointed, and Tinanath wheeled out of position, intercepting it and flaming it with an almost casual belch, as if charring Thread was something he'd done his entire life.

See, Mine? There's nothing to it! I was born and bred to do this.

Ph'ton shook his head. It's still dangerous! We still have to pay attention! he admonished the blue Lich. He wasn't about to let Tinanath's healthy ego get them killed!

Round 4 / Day 1 / Roll 2: Standard Grid
Blue Loreleth: 4/12 HP
Held saves: 0

As the rider and dragon continued the fight, a partciularly sharp dive caught J'lar off guard. The usually stoic man felt his stomach lift, and a moment of surprise catch him off guard as he felt himself lift in his seat. He instinctively scrabbled to grip hold of Loreleth's neckridge, and dug his heels into his dragon's side as if that might somehow keep him from falling.

But just as quickly as he felt himself slide off Loreleth, the dragon zoomed back up, causing him to land hard against his blue's neck. He grunted in pain, and quickly tightened his straps. Had he fit them wrong or was that simply wear from the day's activities? Mine? Came the concerned creel.

I'm fine, Lore. You did great. He diverted his blue's attention, praising him for his excellent fighting. What was a sore a** on top of everything else? As far as injuries went, it was nothing.

Round 4 / Day 1 / Roll 3: Standard Grid
Blue Loreleth: 3/12 HP
Held saves: 0

.... And just when he thought he'd tightened his straps, it happened again! Another crash against his dragon's back had the large man mumbling a few curses under his breath. His grip on Loreleth was weakening. The threadsore on his thigh was aggravated anytime he attempted to use his muscles, but he wasn't quite ready to go back and have it looked at. Not yet. There was time. What was a bit of pain, after all? He could take it.

Round 4 / Day 1 / Roll 2: General Grid
Blue Tinanath: 11/12 HP Acting Wingsecond
Held saves: 0

Quote:
2. Your dragon swoops down to flame a writhing silvery Thread, but your riding straps are just a little bit loose. The sudden fear of feeling yourself lift just a bit higher in the straps than you like is terrifying as you fear you might slide off. Furthermore, when your dragon swoops back up to return to formation, you're forcefully returned to your seat! You're able to tighten the leg strap with shaky hands, and were never at risk of actually falling off, but it's not an experience you want to feel again. Your tailbone is going to object for a few days. -1 HP Rider Damage.

As Tinanath dropped suddenly out of formation to pursue another clump of Thread, Ph'ton felt the most disconcerting thing: he felt his rear lift out of his seat on his dragon's withers. "W- WHOA!" he yelped, scrambling his hands for something to hold onto. Then the blue shot up abruptly and Ph'ton landed again with a hard thump on his tailbone. "Sharding straps," he muttered, tightening them as Tinanath settled back into his spot. He couldn't get his heart to stop pounding. The leather was probably stretching from use. That was terrifying!

Another clump of Thread appeared in the distance, twisting and writhing on the wind I'm on it! Tinanath informed his siblings, and jumped Between to pursue it before Ph'ton could visualize the Thread's location. "Wait-" the young dragonrider started before the void of Between took his words. They emerged from Between -- right in the middle of the clump!

Tinanath shrieked as the silver Thread tore through his wingsails. As his dragon's agony washed over him, Ph'ton felt a searing pain in his leg. Thread had eaten through his wherhide leathers! "BETWEEN! BETWEEN!" he screamed at Tinanath, and after what felt like an eternity they blinked into the blackness.

One… two… three…

They emerged well away from the deadly silver menace, and Ph'ton caught his breath. His leg was burning with pain, and he could tell by Tinanath's silence that the blue wasn't feeling so fantastic either. Ph'ton refrained from saying I told you to pay attention -- he didn't need to. Resuming their position in the formation, he hoped Tinanath would take this as a lesson in setting a bad example for the rest of the weyrling wing.

Round 4 / Day 1 / Roll 1: General Grid
Brown Aleyath: 11/14 HP
Held saves: 0

Aleyath brightened at his brother's praise, sending a smug burst of feeling to his rider.

    A credit to our weyr.

The brown had never understood why O'len was mildly wary of Illiandinth, but it hardly mattered at the moment. The sky was clear and right now, Thread was just out of reach.

Round 4 - Day 1 - Roll 1: General Grid
Green Nzambith 10/10 HP

Saves: 1

A call went out to each dragon as they flew steadily through the Thread and Nzambith turned her head to gaze up at Illiandinth. Her shining brother was beyond inspiring and his words filled her soul with a bit of warmth and cheer that bled into Vennodren as well. He hadn't heard what had been said but felt the confident wing beats of his dragon and felt the pride and happiness lifting in her mind. It was rare that she instilled the happiness within the duo - usually it was Venn bringing Nzambith up - but it was a much needed morale boost. They were nearly through the flight and he knew they'd continue to do well.

Round 4 - Day 1 - Roll 2: General Grid
Green Nzambith 10/10 HP

Saves: 1

As they flew and flamed Thread from the sky, Nzambith spotted a clump that managed to get by the upper wings and her siblings as well. She alerted Venn to the impending blink Between, but when they reappeared they were far off their mark. The clump fluttered down further but was taken care off by the golden queen and her rider below, flaming the threat from the sky.

"That was a good try, Nzam," Venn said soothingly as the pair returned to their spot in formation. "It's hard to get right, isn't it?"

Yes...the others make it look so easy, she said with a wistful sigh. Vennodren was confident that with more practice they could be the ones making it look easy.

----

Rankled slightly by the necessity of giving up his spot to his brother, Illiandinth nonetheless gave a show of graciousness. Few indeed would have noticed or been able to tell that the Bronze found the whole affair a trifle... demeaning. Yet he would not let onto that. It seemed that no matter how ruffled, the Demon was more than capable of performing admirably.

Round 4 - Day 1 - Roll 3: General Grid
Green Nzambith 10/10 HP

Saves: 2

After returning to the formation, Vennodren made sure to plan moves with Nzambith rather than letting her jump off on her own. While she was a good fighter, it worked better when he was the one plotting out their path. Nzambith could follow his instructions perfectly and if she did exactly as she was told, she could pull off rather dexterous moves to ensure no Thread that fell near them made it by.

Illiandinth bugled stridently and C'sar caught sight of Thread about to envelop one of his clutchmates. The pair wheeled, flaming the Thread into a char.
