Tristen would go back to the chair eventually to talk to more with Matteo about…well. Whatever they could to pass the time under the canopy. It wasn’t like they had much of anything else to do. Though as time went on, Tristen started to learn more about Matteo and the kind of life he lived, to the various things he liked to do around Montenevera growing up, to expressing his astonishment that Tristen didn’t know a good few things that would have been commonplace for a teen his age to know. Even a confession from Tristen that when B and E talked about various television and movie shows and things of that nature left Matteo flabbergasted. Like Penny with anime, Matteo also had a whole list of things Tristen ‘needed’ to see while he still could. Tristen wasn’t quite sure if he was going to get that much time in something like that but he was going to try.

It was a matter of time before the Pokémon center got the all clear and shortly after, the shutters would finally rise. Tristen would get up, draping his jacket over his shoulder as he walked out onto the beach along with Matteo. It did still look fairly dreary with all considered. The storm was gone and all, but the havoc that it brought made this beach a stark contrast. All there was were the ever subsiding waves that moved upon the beach and receded. Otherwise, this beach was for all intents deserted. Not any other beach-goers that perhaps were here, nor any Pokémon like Wattrell or Wingull. They cleared the area in a massive hurry and perhaps didn’t look back. Tristen then walked out far down the beach, near the water’s edge, just enough to see back up towards the cliffs where all the debris came from, wanting to see if there were any sort of remnants of the storm that rushed over them.”

“…that storm was still too strange…” Tristen said simply, as if the whole ordeal bothered him in such a fashion. It perhaps was going to be one of those things that Tristen may never get an answer to. It wasn’t as if he was going to like that, though.

"Very strange." Matteo concurred as he followed after Tristen, kicking a small branch along the way. Both boys would look up into the sky and notice that the storm was completely gone, no sign of it in any discernible direction, as if it were never here in the first place, the debris on the beach truly the only evidence of its existence. "Now that's weird. Don't storms like, slowly die out? Never heard of one just turning off all at once." The boy continued as he glanced around the area. "Hey, what's that?" The boy called out as he pointed to something several feet away from them on the shore.

It was a twist piece of driftwood, clearly not a fresh branch and instead one that had been out at see for some time. That was not the interest part however, it was instead the clump of purple on it. Matteo wouldn't wait for Tristen to register the branch before approaching it, getting close and kneeling down to get a better look at it. Taking another nearby stick be poked the purple thing to register where it was alive or not. It was not. "What is it?" He asked as he continued to move it with the stick. It appeared to be some kind of purple fur, however wet. "Someone lose their wig?"

“Yeah…” Tristen said, trying to think back to what GRAY was stating. About a energy signature flickering in and out as the storm made its way over the two. Whatever that storm was, it certainly wasn’t normal. Tristen instantly went back to his legendary Pokémon theory but once again, he was drawing a blank as to what could have caused that or have energy signatures to just exist and not again, however. Tristen started to become resigned in the fact that this was perhaps one mystery that was never going to be solved.

Tristen perked up and stared in confusion when Matteo brought up something out of the ordinary. He walked off towards Matteo, taking note to the large mound of purple fur. Tristen didn’t recognize it; not sure if it was soaked or anything of that sort. Putting his jacket back on finally, he walked forward, getting close to it as Matteo tried to poke it with a stick, only for it to be unresponsive. “…its…fur…I think…” Tristen said. Tristen tried to go though his mind, trying to figure out something that may have caused a massive rainstorm and had purple fur in some capacity, never mind bring the rain and lightning and once again. Two came to mind, one of those only made sense considering the direction the storm came from, and he wasn’t sure if one of those had any nomadic runs in this part of the world. He didn’t want to go back on that sort of theory crafting yet.

Tristen was going to see if he couldn’t get a better look at it; grabbing the driftwood the fur was on to carefully turn the purple mass over to get a better look at it. Maybe to see at the same time if there was anything to that wood to indicate where it came from. It made him wonder if this storm that passed over them actually had its way with a ship out at sea perhaps.
PostPosted: Wed Nov 12, 2025 9:49 am

The wood appeared to be well worn and soaked through with a few small Binacle egg remains on it, the egg remains evidence that this wood was on the seafloor at some point long enough that a Barbaracle saw it as a good place to settle its eggs, the young relying on a hard stationary surface to develop. Tristen may or may not recognize them, though Binacle egg remains were iconic so he just might. They were frequently seen on dock pillars and Wailords, the Binacle remaining there long enough to pair up and eventually find a good rock to become protected and mobile together. Besides evidence it was on the seafloor for an extended period of time there was no much else noteworthy about the driftwood, it was just a piece of a tree that broke off at some point and became waterlogged enough to sink to the bottom of the sea.

The purple fur just appeared limp and wet, as one might expect, however Tristen could sense one key trait of it, and only he could of the two; it had a slight electrical charge to it. Not enough that it could actually shock someone in its current state but enough that if you held it and then touched something grounded and metal you might get a mild zap, just slightly stronger than static electricity. Wasn't often you find fur holding an electrical charge like this, though there were a few Electric type Pokemon that possessed fur capable of holding an electrical charge but how many of them were purple?

"So...what are you thinkin'?" Matteo asked as he leaned over Tristen's shoulder. "Just looks like a piece of wood that an Espeon coughed up a furball onto. May not be purple but Penny's Sylveon can throw up huge ones of that size."

Tristen continued to look; the wood wasn’t really anything remarkable that he could find. It had been around long enough to get something caked on it; not aware of what Binacle were or anything pertaining to it was. All he could figure was that the wood had been around long enough. The fur on the other hand was a whole other matter. As he tried to examine it and turn it over, he then noticed something as he ended up trying to shift the wood. There was a small crackle. Odd, considering how drenched this stuff was. He reached his hand close to it, staring in confusion, only for the fur to react, discharging a small bolt of electricity. Not enough to cause anyone harm, never mind to Tristen, but enough to startle anyone. Tristen, more so from the noise it made. While he tried to dismiss the possibility of a legendary Pokémon anymore, he couldn’t help it. This fur perhaps all but settled it…

“What I think…” Tristen said. “…is that we may have a Legendary Pokémon on our hands after all. The good news is that I don’t think it was the one that I thought may have shown up even though the storm came in from the water. If it was that one, then we probably would have had a problem on our hands. Though rather or not what I think it is now is a problem or not…I don’t know…I only know of one Pokémon to harness storms and electricity like that has fur like that, and that’s the legendary Pokémon, Raikou.” Tristen said. “This purple fur is part of a long flowing mane down its back that look like billowing storm clouds, at least that’s what stories go. I never seen one myself, but I do know that it and its brother beasts, Entei and Suicune, tends to hang out between Jhoto and Kanto. When GRAY took the scan of the area while the storm was over head, he mentioned the energy signature going in and out…I don’t think it was disappearing. It was Raikou moving that fast. Stories tend to talk about how its fast as lightning as it travels the region. But even so…I haven’t heard anything about it moving across sea waters and stuff…that’s more Suicune’s thing. But…”

Something then occurred to Tristen as he mentioned that last sentence. “…if Raikou didn’t cross the sea…then the storm was only drawn to it. His power was affecting the area.” Tristen said. “He was already here…” Tristen said, looking back towards the cliff again, as if he was half-expecting the Legendary beast to show itself, if only for a mere glimpse before disappearing again, true to its illusive nature. “…what’s a Raikou doing here?” Tristen could only let that question hang in the air for a moment. “I guess…there might not be much to worry about. Those beasts in particular tends to be kinda chill, so…maybe it’s just one of them passing through? Still…if it is a Raikou, then…what’s it doing here? We’re a long way from Jhoto and Kanto…” Tristen could only say, rubbing the back of his head in confusion. It wasn’t unheard of, just vastly unexpected, in the Snagem teen’s case.

Matteo tried his best to listen to Tristen but the kid really struggled to keep up with him, the boy completely out of his element when it came to legendary Pokemon. Sure, he had heard about the Legendary Beasts of Johto, who hadn't at this point? However his knowledge ended at knowing they were a thing, nothing deeper than that which was true for most people who had any idea of their existence. He learned more about them from Tristen than he ever had before. It was cool though, he had to admit, learning all this, even if it did give him a bit of a headache. No one accused Matteo of being a scholar after all.

Matteo would look to the cliff with Tristen only to see nothing like his friend, turning his attention back to the boy as he scratched his head a bit in thought before speaking. "You don't think the other two are here too, do you?" He asked Tristen, scanning the area around them. "I mean the Fire one sounds cool and all but I don't think I'm in a rush to meet it..." He said, chuckling nervously. "Either way, it's gone, right? That GRAY guy doesn't detect anything? So we should be okay?" Matteo asked, looking a little anxious as he looked at the sky to see if there were anymore storm clouds but thankfully there were none. "Maybe we should get back to the academy or at least close to it before anything else weird happens."

(You can send them back to Mesagoza with your post if you'd like to keep things moving.)

Tristen mouth quirked only a little when Matteo suggested to take their leave from the beach and head back to the academy. He took out his SNAG and took a look at the time. With the storm eating their time here, never mind Tristen’s time to actually work on Agility, never mind of the possibility of a legendary roaming around nearby that he wasn’t sure if he was going to be defend Matteo if push came to shove if this Raikou or whatever it could be decided to lay claim to the area. Especially with the line-up he had. While technically they still pretty much had a good several hours of daylight to go, Tristen didn’t necessarily want to take the chance. Not in the wake of that. Lunch was perhaps going to have to wait until they got back. “Yea, lets get out of here just in case…” Tristen said.

Matteo would eventually make the call to get a Squakabilly taxi out towards the beach again; though because of the storm that made its way through, there was a bit of a delay. Tristen was left to wonder if it was because of the storm, or if the birds were actually sensing the potential Legendary Pokémon in the area. It could have gone either way. Eventually, the taxi would arrive and the boys would take the flight off. Matteo would start needling questions about what he knew of legendary Pokémon, namely the ones that he had first hand dealings with, however long or brief they were, and once again Tristen would recant his tales how he remembered them. Though as Tristen spoke on, Matteo seemed to look as if he was trying to seek answers to something, for questions that Tristen didn’t even know how to ask, let alone what.

It was a matter of time before the taxi touched down. The boys were let out and once the taxi driver was paid, the taxi lifted off, leaving Matteo and Tristen nearby the academy steps. “Not exactly the day I imagined…” Tristen said to him.
PostPosted: Sat Nov 15, 2025 11:52 am

"Yeah, me neither." Matteo commented as he followed after Tristen, stretching now that they were out of the taxi. "It's okay though, we can still make the most of the day, right? If you still want to practice Agility we could use the academy's track if it's free. Or we could do a couple laps around the academy itself, you've seen me do it before." Matteo suggested, giving some thought as to what they could do to make up for the rest of the day. "...or if you're feeling brave we can run through the city." He said with a sly grin but only for a few seconds as he was quick to chuckle and wave his hand dismissively. "I'm just kidding though. Who would do that? Certainly not me. Never have and never will! No sir! I'm a model citizen!" He said, comically standing up straight, fists on his hips and raising his chin to the sky.

Tristen had to smirk a bit; finding the statement a bit on the comical side, knowing good and well what it actually meant. Perhaps it wasn’t all too bad, though. At the very least, at least Tristen managed to help get his Buizel to become a Floatzel to make up for yesterday. And it was a nice outing if all the same. While he had outings with Team Snagem, this one hit…a bit different. Even the outing yesterday, for that matter with his friend. Maybe something can be salvaged. “Well, whatever I am going to do, it’s probably not going to happen until after I finally get some lunch.” Tristen said to Matteo. “Want to come along?” he then asked.
PostPosted: Tue Nov 18, 2025 5:33 pm

"Yeah, I think I could-" Matteo's sentence would be suddenly interrupted by the loud growl of his stomach, the boy looking down at his midsection and then up at Tristen before giving off a light chuckle, just slightly embarrassed. "Guess my stomach wanted to answer for me, hehe...but yeah, I could go for a bite to eat. Let's head to the cafeteria and see if any pre-made sandwiches are left if not we can go into town and pick something up. Better to check the free food before spending money, right? Well, free in that someone else is paying for it but hey, who is keeping track of that, right? Not me! Let's go!" With that Matteo took off, heading towards the academy's front door.

-----

In time the pair would find themselves in the cafeteria, the place fairly empty but that was to be expected for a weekend. Matteo would wave at one of the two students in here eating, both of them also studying, and then slowly made his way to the counter, seemingly hesitant. Once he got up there and saw several sandwiches still sitting in the cooler he let out a sigh of relief as he opened up said cooler. "Good, Ms. Picante isn't here. I hate running into her on weekends because then she has time to scold me." Matteo said as he began to go through the paper wrapped sandwiches, reading off the sharpie written names of the sandwiches. "Jambon-Beurre...Herbed-Sausage...Potato Salad...Egg...Bocadillo...aaand...Fried Fillet. Any of those catch your fancy?" He asked Tristen. "Condiments are over there too." He said, pointing to said condiments. He'd then look back at the sandwich and have a thought. "...things rely way too much on an honor system around here. What is to stop someone from just taking all these?" He said in a tone that indicated he never had thought about this until now.

Tristen would chuckle for a moment before following Matteo off back to the academy cafeteria. He made his way up the grand stairs and off into the academy halls, making his way back for the cafeteria, some place that he hadn’t really bothered coming to over the weekend for one reason or another. A matter of circumstance, if nothing else. He ended up with a little bit of a sigh once he mentioned his disdain for running into Ms. Picante, a notion that Tristen couldn’t agree on. Ms. Picante had always been nice because the kid paid it forward the moment he met her and didn’t want to break any sort of trust with her, more so when literally on day one she bailed him out getting that yeast from her and kept both him and Matteo out of trouble. The Manectric hybrid started to go down the whole assortment of sandwiches as Matteo named them off, all sorts to try. “The fillet sounds good…” Tristen said, taking the fried fillet sandwich. “Though yeah, it might sound like a bad idea leaving them out like that, but considering there’s cameras here and there for both student and teacher safety, kinda hard to sneak out a bunch of sandwiches like that.” Tristen said as he started to go over towards the condiments.

“Also…you might kinda wanna lay off Ms. Picante about that.” He said, getting a couple of packets of mayo and looking for a drink and chips to go along side. Apparently, a good number of chips were picked clean due to the boy’s tardiness to this place chances are. Seemed like plain and corn chips were left over, and more of the former than the latter, as Tristen noticed on the relatively sparse shelf racks nearby. Tristen picked up a package of the corn chips, along with a lemonade alongside. “With me here with you now, you’d got nothing to worry about. Even if I wasn’t, you got think for a second, you kinda had it coming a bit for a while there. I heard about some of the stuff before I showed up in Paldea. Like I told you earlier this week, some people are going to be harder to warm up to because of what you were. You got a track record spanning years for some people, like Ms. Picante. If you’re out to be better like you want to be, you’re going to have to let them see you put in the effort. It’s going to take time, but just this past week alone, I can tell you’ve been trying. Big difference from my first week here.” Tristen said, giving Matteo a affirming pat on the back. “Mushroom stuff aside, anyways.”
PostPosted: Wed Nov 19, 2025 4:46 pm

"Fried fillet, huh? I guess I'll take this one then." Matteo said as he grabbed the jambon-beurre. "Just needs a little kick to it." He said as he reached for the shaker bottle of dried Tamato Berry flakes. With the bottle in hand he'd unwrap his sandwich and open it up before proceeding to shake the contents of the bottle onto his sandwich, bits of red flakes collecting on the ham of his sandwich. As he did this he listened to Tristen, grumbling a bit silently as he brought up Ms. Picante and instead chose to keep quiet and listen for as long as it took for him to get the desired amount of Tamato Berry flakes on his sandwich which 'coincidentally' was exactly how long it took Tristen to finish talking. Imagine that.

"Yeah yeah..." Matteo said, waving the shaker bottle before putting it down and proceeding to close and wrap his sandwich up, but only half way so that he could eat the exposed part. "Ms. Picante is just...ugh. I know she likes you and all and yeah I goofed around too much..." As he spoke he reached for a bag of sweet and spicy Occa Berry flavored chips, his absolute favorite and in general popular with Fire type hybrids and Pokemon all over. "...but Ms. Picante is just so difficult. Out of all the adults here she is easily the least forgiving. How such a stubborn lady married such a nice lady I'll never understand..." Matteo grumbled as he grabbed a soda pop.

With food and drink in hand Matteo would walk over to one of the nearby tables, one of the many empty ones, and sat down with a grunt, proceeding to take a big bite out of his sandwich and chewed just for a bit before talking with a mouth partially full. "I don't know, just feels like with some adults you screw up once and they hold it against you, and they'll remind you that you did over and over."

Tristen didn’t get that notion at all out of Ms. Picante. If anyone, she would have done that to an adult if nothing else, as opposed to a kid who certainly couldn’t have known any better. Or rather, too ignorant to choose to know better. But something that Matteo said jumped out to him. That some adults hold someone to mistakes long past incidents? Tristen only had a couple of situations like that, but that was only because he was literally in Team Snagem missions, being as they were life threatening more often than not, and one of those situations, he’s got a scar at his shoulder blade to remind him more than anything. This was not any such thing, just a rowdy kid instead. And this wasn’t something Tristen felt was limited to Ms. Picante.

Tristen recalled many things that Matteo had said throughout the couple of un-consecutive weeks he has known the Growlithe hybrid, between his whole situation with the mushrooms, to some about his life. To his general demeanor; the reason why he tries to remain some realm of arbitrarily cool, though uptight rather if Matteo realizes it or not, as opposed to someone that has relaxed, and can enjoy himself like those bits that Tristen noticed during watching his adoptive father’s gym leader battle yesterday, or the happiness of seeing his Buizel evolve earlier today. His friends like Brooks, Elwin, and Fela. To his motivations to ‘be better’. It started to look like that it stemmed to one overarching issue. Tristen looked around for a second and decided to call the shot. “Like your dad?” Tristen then asked. Tristen wasn’t sure if such a conversation was probably going to ruin lunch for a second, but Tristen wanted to help. He wanted Matteo to ‘be better’, after all. In more ways than Matteo probably imagines.

Matteo, who was just eating his sandwich in silence as Tristen's thoughts swirled in his head, would suddenly pause right before chomping down on his sandwich once more. Taking just enough time to pull slightly away and close his mouth the boy, while still holding said sandwich up to his mouth, would stay at Tristen for several seconds in silence. The look on his face was one of confusion, as if he was uncertain he heard Tristen correctly but slowly realizing he did in fact hear him correctly just didn't want to. "What did you say?" He said as the realization sunk in, the boy putting down the sandwich finally as he switched his total attention towards Tristen. "My dad?" Now turning his entire body to face Tristen.

"What about my dad? He's nothing like Ms. Picante! So why bring him up!?" Matteo asked, getting increasingly agitated and defensive now that the topic has switched to his father. Matteo knew good and well what Tristen was referencing, Tristen knew he did, this was just another one of his angry masking episodes this time with feigned ignorance. Looking Tristen up and down for a second or two he clicked his tongue and huffed. "Heh, what do you know any ways..." He huffed as he turned to sit back at the table correctly, looking away from Tristen, and taking a huge bite out of his sandwich. He was trying not to have anymore of an outburst than he already had and stuffing his mouth was one way of preventing that. It was interesting to see the mix of 'old' Matteo and 'new' Matteo in this moment as it appeared he was attempting to pull himself back.

Tristen didn’t really jump to Matteo’s sudden outburst. On the one hand, he’s convinced something was up with his father, if not the topic at hand, though really, he felt like he nailed it in one. Especially with Matteo’s hesitation, that look as if he had been figured out. Called out. Exposed. It wouldn’t be the first time he heard about kids not living up to parents’ expectations and how it affected them. On the other hand, it was probably a far too soon to call that proverbial shot. Matteo either still had been trying to keep his guard up or he’s in denial on something that he’d rather not open or introspect about. While Tristen made it a note to try to be slow about prying into such things, it was probably a bit too soon still. “I’m sorry.” Tristen said, backing off from it. “It’s just with a lot of the stuff you told me about…made me think a bit. I was just trying to help still, but I shouldn’t have tried to guess like that.” Tristen said.
