Round 3 - Day 1 - Roll 3: Wingsecond Grid
Bronze Illiandinth 14/16 hp
Held saves: 0

2. You thought things were going well. You're here, you've been drilling for this, and you know what you're supposed to do. With your fellow weyrling flying behind you, and the Weyrlingmaster just ahead, you know that this is your time to shine. Unfortunately, maybe it's just a bit too much pressure. Suddenly, it all becomes real. One bad call, and it's on you. One moments hesitation and it's on your head! You must make a split decision -- your two neighboring weyrlings are coming right into catastrophe with Thread. You cry out, but your dragon can literally only save one! Who do you save? Quote a weyrling and have them take -4HP that can't be saved from! Quote a different weyrling and save them from their damage for a roll.

---

There was no time. Everything happened so suddenly, and Illiandinth had already bugled a warning to Aleyath when the tangle of thread blew right into Loreleth. A flicker of... something... filled Illiandinth's hearts when he saw the Blue fly directly into its path. Uncertainty? Remorse? Or merely... disgust with his own inability to prevent all disasters.

Round 1 - Day 1 - Roll 1: General Grid
Blue Rouenth: 12/12 hp
Held saves: 0

Their day had finally come and the weyrling pair was a mix of anxious and determined. This was going to be their first threadfall, their first time fighting the enemy for real, and all Rennati could do was shove her fear deep deep down and hope none of it registered on her face. The young woman had to remind herself that this is what they had been preparing for and they could not fail. It made her determined, both of them determined, to do everything they could. Her foot tapped with nervous energy as she rechecked Rouenth's straps for the one hundreth time as they waited for their time. It was a blessing and a curse, Ren thought, that they were in the second wave. Rouenth was pleased by this as he could keep an eye on his siblings and assist if needed instead of being injured and worn out and reduced to watching helplessly. For Rennati, it only increased her nervous energy causing her to continuously fidget as she watched the action above. It was FINALLY their turn to take to the air, Rouenth was positioned in the back of the formation where he could happily see everything. Sadly, this time it meant that the rest of their wing cleared the thread before they reached it. At least it allowed them to be able to keep tabs on the rest of the wing!

4. No Thread is near you, and there's nothing really to be done. The winds are calm and you're in good spirits. You've got this. A moment to think, a moment to breathe. Look at you, fighting Thread like a real rider!

When the signal to drop out and allow the second shift to come Therianth and Shahera did so greatfully. They had been able to manage to last bit of time thanks to encouragement from Hessianth and Vimiath but it was tough going. As they landed, much less gracefully than usual, Shahera was slow to hop down. Her hands were tired and numb and her legs ached. Therianth wasn’t in good shape and she immediately had healers around her. Therinath just laid there panting as the healers worked. Shahera stepped up to her head and caressed her eye ridges. You did good. You did very good.

1. You appear from Between..... directly into a clump of Thread. It sears through your dragons wingsails, and you can feel it tangling up on your leg! The wherhide fabric doesn't seem to offer any protection at all, shaffit all! You finally remember to visualize and go Between, but you're certainly hurting. -5 HP Threadscore.

Round 3 / Day 1 / Roll 3: Roulette Grid
Blue Loreleth: 7/12 HP
Held saves: 1

J'lar and Loreleth had been so focused on chasing down a silvery patch, that neither rider nor dragon noticed a clump get blown directly into their path. All of a sudden, the silver was upon them. The pain was immense--Loreleth was practically blinded by the sudden burning along his wings, legs, neck, face, and shoulders. A thick tangle wrapped tight about the man's shoulder, arm, and leg -- and though he was protected by riding leather, it seemed like no protection at all with how quick Thread ate through it.

Loreleth shrieked, panic gripping both rider and dragon. J'lar was used to pain, but this was unlike anything he'd experienced; and sharing his dragon's pain only exacerbated it. Still, he knew they were dead if they waited any longer, and dead if he didn't focus on where to go. Between! He commanded, focusing on where they needed to be, hoping his dragon got the message. Loreleth's scream cut off as the blue threw himself into the cold nothingness.

One... Two... Three...

The dragon appeared a few feet ahead of where he'd been, and a few feet higher in altitude. Though he hurt, the writhing tangle had died, and was no longer a threat. The dragon wavered a moment, but J'lar sent a wave of love and support to His. You all right? You gonna make it? He was worried about his sensitive dragon. A hurt tongue was nothing compared to what just happened, but Loreleth was surprisingly alert. Shaken, but relieved that the Thread had died.

It hurts, Mine, but I am... all right. I don't like this but I'd rather take the Thread than have it touch any of them. The blue quietly confided. If he could, he would save them from all their woes, all their hurt, all their pain. No, the blue did not mind... though he did mind that his rider had been hurt. Please be okay, Mine. I will... Do better next time. He creeled apologetically.

J'lar frowned. You were perfect. Still have my limbs. We're fine, Lore, just fine. If we need to go back to get you looked at, let me know. I won't risk you. The last was thought with such vehemence that the little blue's eyes almost went a purply-blue with pleasure. He knew His loved him, adored him, but he also liked to know of that love.

I am all right. I can still fight. I will still fight. Ever determined, the little blue ignored his pain, and focused only on catching the nearby Thread and delivering the firestone the higher level wings needed.

Day 1 / Round 3 / Roll 2: General Grid
Brown Aleyath: 8/14 HP
Held saves: 0

Aleyath got back to work flaming Thread, an eye on Loreleth as the blue recovered and darted off to deliver firestone. The dragon's focus on his brother left O'len open to yet another loose strap butt bruise, but for once, he didn't mind. Though the man knew that Aleyath truly cared for a decent number of other dragons, it was nice to see him display concern when he was usually rather detached from the feelings of others.

    Quote:
    2. Your dragon swoops down to flame a writhing silvery Thread, but your riding straps are just a little bit loose. The sudden fear of feeling yourself lift just a bit higher in the straps than you like is terrifying as you fear you might slide off. Furthermore, when your dragon swoops back up to return to formation, you're forcefully returned to your seat! You're able to tighten the leg strap with shaky hands, and were never at risk of actually falling off, but it's not an experience you want to feel again. Your tailbone is going to object for a few days. -1 HP Rider Damage.

The momentary calm was good to L'nik and Hessianth to clear their minds, and the brown reached out to briefly offer support to any of his siblings that were nearby in hopes it would push them on for a bit longer. The exhaustion was starting to creep in - just enough to let them know it was there, but that meant they needed to stay even more alert.

This was what Hessianth was born for, and what L'nik's determination to follow through with his wishes for a dragon had gotten him. He was almost a full fledged rider and he felt it up there when the peace allowed the feeling to actually settle.

It feels too calm here, L'nik. Hessianth informed his rider, and while it was nice to rest his wings for a moment longer, the brown's instincts made him antsy. He needed to fly and flame and chew Thread out of the sky with an urgency that bordered on primal.

Well let's move ahead just a little, then. Don't leave any gaps! he added the last bit hastily to remind his lifemate to not simply fall out of line - because Hessianth would have.

Round 3 - Day 2 - Roll 3: General Grid
Brown Hessianth: 14/14 hp
Held saves: 2 - using one on Tinanath/ using one on Loreleth

Quote:
As you're flying, you notice one of your wingmates in trouble! You call out to them, to try to warn them, and hopefully avoid witnessing a catastrophe. Save! Remove all damage from a single roll for this Round!

There was thread to flame and Hessianth felt more at ease now that he was actively doing something, though he and L'nik still kept an alert eye out, just in case they needed to call out to one of their siblings in warning - or if Hessianth's eagerness could be put to use, he had no problem letting the brown burn off some of the anxious energy he had building up.

That attentiveness meant that when he saw one of his brothers in need of his assistance, the brown moved immediately to flame the clump of thread before it drew any closer to Tinanath. The wind is tricky today, he rumbled, setting aside his marked dislike for the time being.

As he continued his circling, Hessianth's attention darted from sibling to sibling, watching over them. He could be the most prepared dragon in the world and still fall short, so his nerves kept him alert for the time being. Loreleth was one who got frequent checks, both rider and dragon having some concern for the blue and his nerves. It didn't seem as though he was doing too unfortunately, though he was getting a little roughed up, but there was one jump between that cut it closer than felt safe.

Another bolt from position, Hessianth managed to cry out Thread above you, Loreleth!, in hopes that while he flamed it, his brother could move to safer airspace.

Tinanath spotted a clump of Thread coming down from above. On it! he called, blinking Between before Ph'ton could help him judge the distance. That was a mistake -- they reappeared right in front of the clump, much too close to it!

Before he could collide with it and send both he and Ph'ton screaming Between with damaging Threadscore, a brown streak appeared alongside them and flamed the Thread into dust. Hessianth! Tinanath knew the brown wasn't terribly fond of him, but he sent appreciative thoughts to his brother anyway. Shaffit all, this was getting embarrassing!

Ph'ton waved at L'nik in gratitude as well, then gave Tinanath a solid thump on the shoulder to get the blue's attention. I think you and I are going to be practicing Betweening more accurately once this is over, he scolded gently. Now PAY ATTENTION to me the next time! I know you're excited -- so am I -- but we're being careless, and it could get us KILLED!

Tinanath knew His was right. Still, it rankled the ambitious blue to be making so many mistakes. He'd have to be much more careful.

5. It's a classic textbook maneuver. An ugly strand of Thread is falling down, drifting, blowing, squirming on the wind. If it stays course it will put it right in your airspace. Your dragon shifts position, veers, and manages to catch the tangle with a belch of flame. Nothing to this Thread thing, nope!

Drifting back into formation after that close call, Ph'ton spotted a large clump of Thread writhing in the wind as it made its way down toward them. No Betweening this time, Tin -- let's get it

With a determined rumble, Tinanath flapped his wings and soared after the menacing clump, careful not to let the wind blow him into it -- or it into him and Ph'ton. Opening his mouth, he belched forth a mighty flame, charring the entire clump. He bugled triumphantly as the ash drifted away on the wind. We did it! We flamed that Thread out of existence! There really wasn't anything to this!

Ph'ton thumped the dragon's neck. "Don't get cocky, beloved. There's more where this came from… There always is."

Tinanath veered back into formation, still pleased with himself and Ph'ton for flaming that Thread. This was what he was shelled to do! His hearts swelled with pride, and he did a little wing waggle to release some of his pent-up excitement. I knew we would be good at this, Phaymine! I had every confidence and faith in us that we would. Yes, we have made some… miscalculations, and we have some items to work on once this is over. But overall, we have done quite well!

Checking to see if there was any Thread about, Ph'ton patted the blue's neck. "Yeah, things could have gone so much worse…" The 'Fall wasn't over yet, though; there was still plenty of time and opportunity for something bad to happen. Look at Vedmath… He and his rider had done nothing wrong that Ph'ton could tell, and yet…

The young dragonman snapped himself back to the here and now. Keep your eyes peeled for more Thread, Tin -- we gotta stay vigilant!

Round 3 / Day 2 / Roll 1: General Grid
Blue Aramath: 11/12 HP
Held saves: 1

It was far better than Silviu had hoped. Aramath was cooperating, though he’d jerk away from his siblings’ flames if they seemed too near. He spotted a strand of thread coming down within their radius, but out of reach. With a quick thought to his dragon, they transferred between and came out… oh, dear. He’d miscalculated, but thankfully no harm was done. Silviu and Aramath sheepishly dropped back to their place in formation.

Quote:
3. Your dragon spots a silver strand of Thread. You visualize the space you need to go to flame it, but don't take into account the wind, or your dragon's flight speed. Instead, you appear Between but have completely overshot your airspace and are now out in the open, exposed, and with no Thread anywhere near you. Shaffit all! Don't you look the fool. Whoops.

After that last mistake, Aramath was unsettled again. That one was my fault, Silviu assured him. I told you where to jump.

I know. I’m okay. It’s just… all the fire. Despite his worries, Aramath remained steady, watching intently and flaming thread when the chances came.
