Lafayette rolled the pokeball around in his hand as he walked the streets. He’d popped by the Pokemart and picked up a few things for his pokemon to hopefully make future battles easier. He was still trying to figure out what to do with the creature; none of the trainer’s in the mart seemed interested, so maybe there was someone out and about he could chuck it on…
So caught up in his thoughts, the blonde didn’t even catch sight of the person exiting one of the buildings he was coming up to. He grunted as he all but collided with Mel, attention snapping up as he took a step back, clutching the pokeball with one hand while he frowned. It took him a moment to compose, checking on the young woman in front before offering a bit of an apologetic look. "Sorreh ‘bout tha’ shelia." He remarked, raising his free hand and adjusting his cap a bit. "Yeh a’righ’?"

To be fair, it wasn't entirely Lafayette's fault that the collision happened. Mel happened to be digging through her purse at the time, her gaze down, her head turned, and her vision very much not looking where she was going. Which was why she damn near lost her balance and fell on her butt when she bumped into him, arms pinwheeling before Z swooped over and reared up to catch her against his body. She quickly placed a hand back on him and grabbed onto his face with her other, her eyes a bit wide, clearly caught offguard by the sudden fall. She recollected herself quickly, though, her eyes initially narrowing, both in annoyance, and in recognition of the accent.
"Not--" She cut herself off when her gaze finally snapped over to the guy, and she righted herself, straightening up as she reached to adjust her purse. She blinked when she recognized that she... didn't recognize the guy, and that he seemed to actually be sincere in the apology. "... Not a problem," she recovered (well sort of), offering a smile as she finished fixing herself, "Honestly I'm probably at fault too." Noticing the pokeball, she eyed it a moment, then gave him a questioning smirk. "You're not about to challenge me to a battle, are you?" she added, a bit playfully, but only half-joking. It seemed since she'd got in Kalos, any encounter she had was another trainer looking for a battle, and seeing as he had a pokeball in his hand...

Lafayette quirked and eyebrow at the annoyed response that seemed to start from the woman, watching as she finally managed to right herself with the help of what he assumed was one of her pokemon… a weird… cell looking slug thing that he found to be rather impressive. He wasn’t really sure what type of pokemon that was but… wow.
As Mel remarked that the little collision –that seemed more like him body checking her with the way she went spiraling- was not a problem and that she might’ve been at fault too, Lafayette gave a bit of a scoff and a smile of his own. "She’ll be righ’, sheila. No worries. Thinkin’ we’re both ah fault." He remarked, giving a little tilt of his hat. When she noted the pokeball and whether he was looking for a challenge though, the blonde gave a solid chuckle.
"Nah, mate. Not unless ya squizzin’ fah one." He mused, shaking his head. His gaze lingered a moment on the pokeball though, a hard look as though he was seriously considering something before his expression quickly shifted to one of realization. Lafayette’s grin returned again before he quickly looked back to Mel, grip tightening once more on the pokeball as he did.
"You lookin’ ta claim any new pokies sheila? " He gestured in her direction with the pokeball. "I’m needin’ ta get rid’a this one; find it a proper trainee. Ya int’rested?" He glanced at Z curiously as he inquired. Mel was a trainer right? He was making it a habit to ask everyone after all, so why not? The quicker he got this task done, the sooner he could get on to the other tasks Juliean might’ve had for him.

Mel's smile quirked to a bit of uncertainty as the man she had bumped into started to actually.... talk. If it could be that. Oh geeze. Squizzin'? What even was that? She glanced back at Z, still smiling quizzically. 'Any idea what he's saying?' she thought at him. 'Nope,' came the helpful response. But, she was pretty sure he had the same notion she had, the same... vague understanding. Squizzin' was like... itching? Maybe? "Well, I don't really have any of my other pokemon with me, so...." she trailed off, giving a shrug. Hopefully that was an appropriate answer... She wasn't really worried about admitting she was 'unarmed', either. Mostly because she actually... was armed. With a gun. In her purse. Plus Z. Plus, well... martial arts. And training.
She wasn't worried.
She quirked an eyebrow when he seemed to be offering the pokeball to her. She was pretty sure that was what he was saying, that one wasn't that hard to figure out. Maybe it was just that one word; even if his accent was pretty heavy, it wasn't exactly unintelligible. "A new pokemon...?" she repeated curiously, taking the ball to look it over, "What is it?" She was, admittedly, curious. As she looked it over, though, something in the back of her mind was spinning something else. He had said he needed to get rid of the pokemon....

Lafayette quirked an eyebrow at Mel’s claim, eyeing Z a moment before chuckling and nodding his head. "I get’ya sheila. No worries." He remarked with a grin. She seemed to be out and about doing some shopping after all; probably while her team was being healed up? That was a good use of time. Besides, he was tuckered out still from all those gym battles. His team deserved the break just as much.
He watched a moment as she seemed to take an interest in his offer, perking up even more with grin still on his face. "Ye bet!" He chimed. When she inquired what it was he frowned, thinking a moment before promptly fishing out his pokedex. "It’s a… Riyo… Roye… somethin’?" Pokemon names; not exactly his field of expertise. He flashed the device over the pokeball so it could pull up the entry –there was no way he was going to waste time trying to look it up himself- and once the information on the Riolu appeared, turned the device about so that Mel could have a look. "One a these." He remarked, still rather pleased at the prospect that he could get rid of this thing in one go. "Ya int’rested? I realleh need this thing gone…"

Oh good, this guy was intelligible. She'd been a little concerned from that slang he used earlier, but it seemed it wasn't as bad as she thought. Plus, he seemed rather friendly, or at least easy going, and even better... he was offering her a pokemon. And not only that, but an opportunity. Because, in all honesty, she knew there was no way she was getting Brian to come to that party with her. Not under normal conditions, and certainly not dressed in a suit. And yet, she really didn't want to deal with the repercussions of not 'bringing a date'. Not that she would consider this at all... anything close to a date. Just a mutual trade off of convenience.
"Riolu," she repeated, dropping her gaze down to the ball and pretending to consider the offer. It was a fighting type, after all. That was kind of her forte, and all. Even if she didn't really need another fighting type on her team... And besides, Riolu were adorable. And Lucario were pretty badass. "Hmm... S'pose I could take it off your hands," she decided, lifting her gaze back up and offering a smile, before a bit of a smirk crossed her face, "What do I get for it, though?" She was careful to sound playful, she didn't want the guy to think she was trying to blackmail him into it, or anything -- even though she kind of was, but this was more of a bribe.
Tossing the ball up, she caught it, then dropped her hand down. "Tell you what, it sounds like you really need to get rid of this thing, and honestly, I wouldn't mind taking it, but I need some help with something, too. So, favor for a favor? Sound a fair trade?" she proposed. And hopefully he wouldn't back out, or get scared off, by the favor she had in mind...

Lafayette was still all a grin as Mel seemed to consider his offer. Honestly, if exchanges could be this easy for him on a normal basis, maybe he would’ve spent more time engaging in them. Of course, this one seemed to take an odd turn as the woman’s tone suggested, causing the blonde to quirk an eyebrow in a bit of confusion. As she seemed to mull it over he returned his pokedex to his pocket, still watching her.
"Oh yeh?" He inquired with a sort of honest confusion as she seemed to playfully inquire what she’d get in return. For a moment, Lafayette was a bit confused; she’d be getting… a pokemon of course. Free of charge and work and even equivalent trade. The whole deal was entirely in her favor. Was there something else? He honestly had to think about it a moment. It wasn’t like she knew his situation or anything about the need to get rid of it… but then again, she kind of made it sound like she did.
Huh.
Folding his arms across his chest, Lafayette straightened up and tilted his head to the side, gaze narrowing just a bit as he seemed to try and figure out what Mel was going for. This wasn’t some kind of trick was it? He supposed he could hear her out; he really wanted to get rid of the thing after all before Juliean harassed him any further. "A’igh’ then sheila. I’m listenin’, what’cha lookin’ feh help on?" If it was something terrible well then he could just refuse right? And then the next option would be to probably just… chuck the pokemon in a lake or something. Not ideal but it could work.

Mel smiled, then held up her hands, still holding the pokeball in one of them. "There's an event going on at the Aquarium. I have an invitation, but... I need someone to go with. You're supposed to bring a guest, and all that. It's sort of a... family obligation that I go, but my friend, who's traveling with me, well... really doesn't want to come with. I was wondering, if maybe you could help me, and come? There's free food, and drink. The only catch is it's... sort of a bit upscale. If that's not enough to convince you, I... I dunno, I'll make it up to you. Buy you dinner or something," she offered, giving an apologetic, hopeful sort of smile. Okay... so much for trying to blackmail. This was really becoming more of a request than an even trade. But, hey.... the guy seemed nice. He was cute, too.
"My name's Mel, by the way," she added, realizing she hadn't quite introduced herself, and tossing the pokeball into her other hand, so that she could reach out and offer her free one for a handshake.

Lafayette listened intently as Mel explained her position to him, gaze remaining narrowed in that sort of suspicious manner as he did. He didn't budge an inch, still like a statue as he listened; whatever he was thinking it wasn't easy to tell.
Eventually though his face contorted into a look of honest surprise. She wanted to bring him along to some fancy party in exchange for the pokemon? Really? A man that she had met and known for a whole maybe two minutes and she was inviting him to come as her guest? Honestly... it was crazy and probably to anyone with a better thought process, downright suspicious.
But then again, this Lafayette, who tended to ignore potentially subtle hints when it came to suspicions. Actually to be fair, it sounded more like ... desperation. Mel was calm and joking about it of course, but if she had to go asking some random stranger to be her guest well...
"Yeh ain' got a'lota mates do yeh sheila?" Lafayette honestly asked. Really, it was odd. Though no wait, she did mention one person, though they didn't sound any more interested in going if the situation at hand was any indication. Not that he could really blame whoever it was... swanky parties were a pain. He didn't avoid them like they were portals to Giratina's hell world like his father did, but usually he did it because his mother enjoyed it of at least one of her boys. This wasn't that kind of situation.
Of course... Mel was offering up quite the deal. And he really needed to get rid of the pokemon. Where was the harm in... sort of kind of helping her out?
"Heh. Noice ta meet ya Mel." Right, introductions. That was a thing. Once more, his mother would've been disappointed. "Name's Lafayette." He remarked, reaching a free hand out to hive Mel's a firm shake before resuming his cross-armed position. With that out the way, a thoughtful look crossed his face. "...'Spose I could help ya but," he unfolded his arms from across his chest to place his hands in his hips, eyebrow quirking as he gave her a bit of a look. "I ain' got mah bes' bib and tuckah with me. Probableh ain' good to go to somethin' ritzy lookin' like some kinda dag." Which was to say, he didn't have a suit on hand and well to be fair... he wasn't about to fly home to get the only one he owned.

Mel waited with raised eyebrows as the man seemed to consider her offer, trying not to bite her lip or look anxious. She wasn't. Well, she was, but she wasn't. If this didn't work out, she would figure something else out; this guy was a complete stranger, after all, and her request was pretty weird. But ultimately, it came down to this-- ask a stranger to come with her so she wouldn't have to deal with the repercussions of going alone. There was no way she was getting Brian to come, and even if she could reach any of her friends (or 'friends'), she was pretty sure they wouldn't get here in time. She didn't really have that much time.
Surprisingly, at Lafayette's comment, only a smirk crossed her face. "You could say that," she replied back in amusement, "But it'd be more accurate to say they just aren't really available right now. And prolly couldn't get here in time to help even if they were." She shrugged, her smile relaxing as she placed her hands on her pockets. "Besides, call me a friendly person, but I don' see the harm in gettin' to know new people," she added. Which was true, sort of, most of the time, kind of.
She smiled as he returned the introduction, giving a firm nod and a handshake in return. Lafayette, huh? That was a pretty fancy name. She wondered if he had any nicknames.... but she could do with calling him by his full name for now. It seemed pretty rude, or at least lazy, to ask to shorten it, and she was probably already coming off as rather strange here.... She smiled, and then beamed, as he agreed to help her, practically shining with a relieved happiness. She could guess what a 'bib and tuckah' was, and... sort of what a 'dag' was, but if anything, his concern (or what she understood it to be) only made her grin more. "That's fine! We can do some shopping before! Now, actually, if you have time," she added, already looking around with a thoughtful expression, before grabbing his wrist to promptly tug him off towards some of the nearby shops, "I'm fairly certain I saw a shop with some nice clothes..."

Lafayette chuckled at her admission that her friends weren’t quite available. He supposed that made sense, though it did make him all the more curious what kind of shinding she’d gone and wrapped herself, and potentially him, up in. "Well, lil’ friendleh’ness goes a lon’ way, eh?" He mused. I mean, it was getting some free food if anything right? That was the benefit of him being friendly. Oh, and getting rid of that pokemon. That was a thing too.
He was all caught up in his thoughts though that he almost tripped over his own feet when Mel latched onto his wrist and started tugging him along. Now that wasn’t what he was expecting. A hand immediately flew up to adjust his hat as he fell into step with Mel, a curious eyebrow raising as she watched her with a mix of surprise and amusement. "Slow down their shelia! Ain’ no rush is it?" Was she really going to find him a suit? That was not something he was really expecting to be honest. He’d been… mostly joking? Kind of. Just a bit.
"Yeh gonna suit me up then?" Seriously, he wasn’t quite expecting this. Still now… he had to admit he was intrigued about the situation. And he might’ve felt a little bad for her. Just a little. But mostly, it was intrigue.

Mel gave a lopsided, amused grin at Lafayette's remark. She wasn't quite sure whether he meant his friendliness -- in accepting her offer -- or her friendliness -- in making it in the first place. Either way, though... "True enough," she agreed, then gave a playful wink, "'Specially when there's mutual benefits." She was off soon thereafter, lightly tugging her 'new friend' along with her. She flashed a smirk back at him, but it was a bit apologetic in nature. "Well, to be perfectly honest... there sort of is. This event is today, and all. Besides," she added, her eyes flashing as she grinned, "I don't know how picky you are about your outfits!" She was, of course, just being playful, but she sobered up a bit as Z gave a rumble, some sort of comment that he didn't make audible to, apparently, anyone but her (if even that). The zygarde rolled up to be just behind Lala, though it was hard to tell whether he was looking at the Aussie, or straight ahead, given the... nature of his expression. His proximity suggested some observance or awareness, though.
Mel slowed as she reached a store, letting go of Lafayette, and heading in. Z seemed to hesitate, apparently deciding whether he could make it through the door while waiting to see if Lafayette followed. "To be honest, yes, if you don't mind," she admitted, more sincerely this time. "Not that I don't think you look fine like that," she added, "But it's the sort of event a suit is best for. And don't worry, I'll buy it for you, given I'm putting you through the trouble of coming in the first place. If that's alright, that is." She was aware enough to know the situation was a bit odd, maybe even awkward, but she was being honest here, and if she felt the awkwardness, she wasn't showing it. She seemed to be at peace with the fate of it, facing it head on, and being up front. Her shopping sprees would just have to take the hit of paying for Lafayette's suit, and honestly, it really was the least she could do.

While Mel was out harassing poor strangers with Z, Brian was preoccupied with his own Mission Impossible. That was, finding his clothes. "Where are they!?" Brian muttered irritably, throwing the covers of the second bed up and searching under them. He'd already pretty much trashed the other bed, mattress flipped, covers strewn everywhere, pillows on the floor. Phia, Blue, and Lucy quietly watched him from the table, their eyes following as he strode from one side of the room, to the other, then back, searching under everything he could find. "Where did she put them!?"
Throwing a pillow across the room, he straightened, then finally turned and pointed at the pokemon. Lucy straightened up a bit, but the other two looked unfazed. Kiwi was... staring at a wall, and seemed fairly unresponsive. "Did she hide them? Did any of you do something with them?" He turned his narrowed gaze onto Phia specifically, accusatory finger following. "Did you burn them....?" Blue blew a few bubbles in a scoff and turned away from Brian in his fish bowl. Lucy gave Phia a bit of a look, but the fire bud pokemon simply sat there, smoke rolling out from under her as usual, nonreactive to the question.
Brian stared, waiting a moment longer, before dropping his arm, and his shoulders, and giving a huff. He looked off to the side, before finally walking over to the tossed pieces of the suit, looking down at it, before finally reaching down to pick it up. This.... He was going to get Mel back for this, somehow....

Lafayette quirked an eyebrow, chuckling a bit as a bold grin crossed his face. "True ‘nuff indeed." He remarked. Lafayette went quite a moment as Mel further explained the situation, head bobbing slowly as he took it in. Okay well that made more sense all things considered, though it was a still a little odd to just be acquisitioning the first stranger she’d found but honestly, she seemed rather excited all the same and that was just a bit contagious.
"Heh, I ain’ tha’ pickeh sheila, I promise. S’long as its fits, she’ll be righ’." He mused. When Z seemed to rumble he gave it a curious look, frowning just a bit. He still wasn’t entirely certain what the pokemon was or whether he was comfortable with it hovering so close, but he bucked up and straightened his stance to let it know he wasn’t intimidated –if that was the thing going on, he didn’t really know after all – but turned his focus back to the situation at hand.
As Mel released him he adjusted himself, taking a moment to look at the shop she’d chosen before following after. It’d been so long since he’d been a fancy-pansy place like this. He gave a low whistle, glancing back at Z curiously before looking to Mel as she spoke up. "Well tha’s kind of ya Mel. Though… I think’ ah could just rent one ta save ya the moolah." Lafayette remarked, starting to move about and check what was available. He grimaced a little at the sight of all the suits, momentarily feeling overwhelmed at the thought of wearing one. He was not a fancy person but, he could do this.
"How ‘bou’…. this?" He commented, tugging a simple dinner suit from one of the racks to show her, holding it up properly. It looked about the right size and sort of like the one he owned back at home. Maybe. Lafayette shrugged off the thought though as he waited for some confirmation from Mel. She knew more about this whole social event than he did. There wasn’t some color scheme required or anything right? He hoped not.

Mel smiled a bit. He wasn't picky, hm? That was actually even better. Gave more freedom. She could check out a few options, maybe he could try them on? If he didn't have anything in mind, that meant more options, and while that might be annoying for some people, it was essentially a 'go ahead' for her. She enjoyed shopping, for herself or for others, and the idea of options honestly excited her. She was already spinning through some of the classic styles and colors she knew about as they made their way towards the store. She glanced back at him with a thoughtful expression when he mentioned just renting a suit, though. "Hm... I suppose that probably is a better idea. You're not likely to use it much after this, are you?" she mused. She didn't mean to be rude, but... given he didn't have one anyway, and was now suggesting just renting, and his general dress style... Not to stereotype, but she didn't take him for the suit-wearing sort. Kind of like Brian, except... without the horrific phobia or terrible stubbornness against it. At least this guy was being congenial over the whole matter.
She had just started looking through some of the racks when Lafayette spoke up again, and she lifted her head, pausing a moment before looking back. Oh... She kept her expression curious, but there was some disgruntled disappointment bubbling up inside her. He really didn't care, did he... Not that what he chose was bad, it was fine, it was just... quick. So much for options. She smiled, though, stepping over to get a better look, then lifting her gaze to him. "Looks good. Do you want to try it on first? I can go ask if they have one, or a similar one, to rent, if you like," she offered, stepping back to place her hands on her hips. Well... nothing wrong with being efficient.
