I should mention that these songs provide a brief overview of the 1972 science-fiction novel by Dr. Asimov. They are set to the music of When I Come Around by Greenday, About A Girl by Nirvana, Nada Personal by Peyote MX, and Bye Bye Love by Bud and Felice Bryant, respectively. The title comes from a quote from the play Joan of Arc, "Against stupidity the gods themselves contend in vain." It was very interesting. I would recommend it.

that looked like it had been tampered with.

So I built a bunch of electron pumps
to supply Earth’s two billion people.
I’m certain this will work out for another trillion years
and those who warn it’s more like twenty,
I just wreck their careers.

The electron pump calls me dad,
but you can call me Hallam
because my name is Hallam.

The Gods Themselves

I’m Doctor Denison. I decoded Etruscan
and that’s how I met my friend, Lamont,
at a college conference.

He gets impatient while
it takes so many trials
to say “that Pump is bad, vile,”

She was a tour guide.
Her intuition was necessary
to invent the Pionizer
which they used to do research
on the lunar surface
where there was no atmosphere.

and finally sticks it to Hallam.

on the solar energy
that links them to the Earth.
