The original Star Trek.
Yes, I know the sets were cardboard... and sometimes so was the acting. But was there a plot they didn't do?
Anyway, what's your favorite?

For me it's got to be Babylon 5. The plot was so intricate and the characters were so well developed- I've watched all the series (including the spin-off) at least twice and I've seen almost all the films...

Arcaenia For me it's got to be Babylon 5. The plot was so intricate and the characters were so well developed- I've watched all the series (including the spin-off) at least twice and I've seen almost all the films... Babylon 5 was great. As you say, the plot was intricate. It wasn't just a stand-alone plot each week. Hollywood was finally recognizing the power of the 'soap-opera.' There's a reason those types of shows resonate with people. Now don't think I'm dissing it because I compare it to soap operas. Character development is the strong point of a soap opera. People tune in to find out what will happen to their favorite character. A really excellent series can do character development like a soap opera, and work in the classic plots. Bruce Boxleitner was fabulous in Babylon 5.

I like Dr. Who. Mostly because we watch old episodes pirated off Public Television in Anime Club office. It's awesome.

Purple dragon lady I like Dr. Who. Mostly because we watch old episodes pirated off Public Television in Anime Club office. It's awesome. I have to admit I really have never watched Dr. Who. Mostly I know that like James Bond, there have been a lot of actors who played the lead role. xd

If anime counts, I'd say my favorite is Zeta Gundam.
If anime doesn't count, then I'd say Earth 2 because it had compelling concepts you don't usually see in US sci-fi.

Stargate SG-1. Sorry Stargate Atlantis, but you just don't have it.
I agree with soviet-endlesswaltz, the series has (had) a wonderful plot with believable characters that grew with the show. The effects were there as an added bonus to support what was already well done. Stargate is what Sci-Fi shows should be like.
