I'm going to Spain this summer and I'm SO PUMPED!!! I'm going with a group and we are starting in Barcelona and heading south to Costa del Sol. I've been looking forward to this trip ever since I started watching Passport to Europe on the Travel Channel a couple years ago. mrgreen
Has any one been there? Does anyone live there? Any thoughts?

I've been there! Madrid's airport has awesome architecture. Ask me anything! Read up before you go so you can appreciate fully what you're seeing. Visit Park Guell and you HAVE GOT TO SEE La Sagrada Familia. Take a few minutes inside that gorgeous building to admire and experience the beauty.
In Europe, toplessness at the beach is common, so if you'd rather not seer that much of people avoid the beach- The sand and water in Barcelona are rather dirty, unlike in say Basque country.
Get outta town and go to Monserrat! Ride the airbucket thing up the side of a mountain to an austere monastery where there's nothing but God and the wind and the odd falcon. take a hike on the trails there, and see the Cathedral. In all the many antiquated cathedrals I have been in this one took my breath away like no other
Don't argue with anybody over football- you will not win. biggrin
Eat like a local! Tapas bars serve great food, 'orderve' type stuff, and you can get a 'sandwich de Jamon Serrano con Queso' almost anywhere. It's a kind of ham and some cheese in a sandwich, no condiments cuz they don't need any, the taste is great! You must have Tortilla! It's not a flat bread, in Spain tortilla is an omlette-like thingy made with eggs and potato and cheese and a little bit of onions. For breakfast, order Churros Y Chocolate. Spanish churros are thes pastries like skinny unfrosted donuts, with a little sugar on them, and you dip them in a mug of the thickest richest hot chocolate you will ever taste. Ohhhhh, makes my mouth water just writing about it.
It's summer, expect HEAT. Dress lightly, but pack no scruffy clothes- you wanna make a good impression. Be sure your shoes are good for hard walking- cobblestones are awkward on cute sandals.
