Because it's solid state technology having no moving parts and operating at low hertz therefore generating little heat during operation.
I know some people who leave their NES on for weeks at a time because the game cartridge can no longer save games or they just don't want to put any passwords in. xd

You guys are lucky, the most old-school system I have is an Original Game Boy. It's amazing how much punishment the little grey brick's taken over the years though, and it still runs fins 99.9% of the time.

I still have my Genesis. x3. *huggles Sonic 3 and Knuckles* This is still my favourite game in existance. I have Three Save files of Sonic, two or Tails, and Two of Knuckles.. in all of which I have 99 continues and 99 lives and all 14 Emeralds. Its so much fun just to go back and pwn again x3.

I have my Genesis 3 still, a bunch of games for it, and two glitchy controllers (If I plug one of the controllers into the Genesis while playing my Monopoly game, the hand that's shaking the dice never stops shaking).
Let's see... the games that I have are..... Monopoly, Animaniacs, Sonic Spinball, Battleship, Arcade Classics (Centipede, Pong, and Missile Command), F22 Interceptor, and Sonic Classics (Sonic 1 and 2, and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine).
