Behold, the last true Bastion of Humanity.

Resting in the lands that once bridged the countries of France and Italy the city called Bastion serves as the capital of the country of humans. Dominating the territories of early Europe the area has slowly evolved over time, claiming the new name 'Eden' and offering a safe harbor to any mortal that seeks a community to thrive in. Many smaller towns and farmsteads dot the lands, each and every one defended by Bastion's military force, and if not for the chaos of the world outside their walled borders one could easily mistake the world for what it once had been... long before the end of Humanity's dominance over the planet.

Ruled by a council of Elders, housed in the Grand Cathedral that sits at the city's center, this society is a chaotic yet thriving mix of old technologies and new magi-tech comforts which allows the residents to coexist rather well with nature. A Military, headed by the Council, protects and serves as a police force for residents in the country's wide walls. Steam, Hydraulic, and Magic power fuel much of the City's electricity and while the landscape is a mix of ancient and 'modern' human styles most of the architecture is built from stone rather than metals. Water is the life's blood of this place and many of its resulting canals serve as aquatic highways for gondola taxis, the flowing veins all eventually ending up in the underground hydraulic processing plant to provide stable power to the surface. Public Bathhouses are quite common, styled after the long-forgotten Roman designs, and to a fair degree indoor plumbing is a staple in every home with a well maintained sewer system in place throughout the city as a whole. If there is one quirk of this land that Humans of eld would find confusing it is simply this: There are no promoted Religions to speak of in this society. While a few beliefs do pop up here and there no one can deny that it is Science, and promotion of Humanistic values, that are the only true bonds that rule over the Humans of this land. The laws of this land are about what you would expect, they uphold much of the previous morals that Humans held before the fall of civilization, and the functioning judicial system behaves much in the same way. Obey the law and this land will be paradise... Break the law? Bastion's enforcers will find a fitting punishment just for you.

Beware, the graveyard of Freaks.

For such a welcoming and warm land towards Mortals this territory is the polar opposite towards non-human beings. Hunted and burned out of their society like parasites the 'Freaks', as they are called in this land, will find only suffering and death if they to intrude. Hunters, the Elite force governed by the Elder Council, are Humans trained for this specific purpose and most if not all of these individuals are ruthless in their duty to defend the Human Race. If a Supernatural character is posted in this area without permission it will be deleted. Speak to Rarian for permission.

- About the City's Culture -

- The Church: Though the name is certainly misleading there is no denying this organization functions with the same fanatical faith that once graced religions in eons past. The reality is that The Church of today isn't dedicated to some deity or the sentiment of worship; This group is wholly focused on the survival and betterment of mankind through scientific and humanistic means. Gods may be real in this world, demons and monsters certainly are, but in this world of foes and strife Humans can only rely on other Humans for safety and The Church protects their people ruthlessly. Supernatural creatures, or 'Freaks' as the Humans here call them, are the looming foe that keeps Humanity united and The Church doesn't hesitate to use this dynamic to its advantage; Sanctioning Hunts and attacks on anyone or anything that poses a risk to their nation without hesitation. The Church is ruled by a Council of Elders who, through election in-house, control set aspects of their society and keep their people safe. For their protection Elder's identities are not revealed to the public and they are rarely seen beyond their guarded chambers in the Grand Cathedral at the heart of Bastion City.. This is to ensure that the pillars of their governing body cannot be targeted easily by hostile forces and for the last few hundred years it has worked very well to keep their society stable.

- Laws: Pretty standard, there are a myriad of judicial sections for just about any legal issue that comes up and typically these situations are resolved rather smoothly. The key issues are the violations that lean towards the 'extreme'.. Murder, abuse, and so on. The concept of 'Jail' does exist in this country however it is only for the lesser offenders that are menaces, not threats, to their fellow man. For anyone that dares harm a fellow human intentionally? The Elder Council sends a Mage to strip the offender's mind of their Ego and the remaining zombie-like body is sent to work physical labor or to the Hunter's estate for experimentation. Sometimes, to protect the people, harsh actions must be taken.

- The Economy: The currency of this society is based on coins minted in precious metals and these small disks are named 'Zeks', though for higher sums of value Bank Notes are also accepted by many expensive businesses. Zeks operate much in the way of the U.S.D, to keep things simple.

- Education: The system for schooling in this society is a bit more relaxed than one may think; After all just as many adults seek to learn as children do and to better tailor classes to their students a series of schools have been opened up across the City for 'Free Study'. Anyone, of any age past Twelve years old, can enter into these auditoriums and listen to the criteria introducing that particular field of study. If it interests them individuals can then speak to one of the on-site Teachers to answer questions or to receive instructions on where the dedicated classes for this research are held. Sorted by age groups these students are then taught in groups of ten by dedicated and experienced Mentors, changing instructors at the end of every year to ensure new growth in their studies. From the ages of Four through Eleven a standardized school system exists to teach children basic skills like reading, arithmetic, history, geography, science, and socialization. This foundation helps children select what they want to learn about when they reach the age of Twelve and from that point on they are free to pursue whatever subject interests them the most. Craftsmen take on apprenticeships readily, Researches appreciate new scribes and students, and to the rare brave soul the Hunters are willing to test the mettle of anyone that roams into their trials.

- Marriage: In this day and age Humans are rather open minded when it comes to love and marriage; The only stipulation being that individuals have to be 18 years or older to legally wed. Polygamous relationships are common, gender has little stigma or influence on family structure or opportunities in their society. Frankly speaking.. As long as you are Human and an adult there are no real limits to who you can love and live with.

- Freaks: Non-Humans, often called Freaks by the residents of this land, are absolutely not allowed and anyone caught harboring them or aiding them are subject to punishment from the Elder Council. To be clear, unless they cause the deaths of other Humans, the punishments are typically not too severe but it is a social stigma to lower themselves to a Freak's level. The Council themselves don't have to do anything harsh; The rest of the population will shame the offender themselves for daring to invite such danger into their midst.

-[✤] About the Hunter's Culture [✤]-

- [✤]Hunters[✤]: Guardians of Humanity and the Elite force under the Elder Council's command. Beholden only to the highest echelons of their governing body these individuals live, train, and function as a independent guild which forms their own rules and codes of behavior centered around the order of Five people granted the title of 'Exterminator'. Something of a minor Elder Council in their own right these individuals are elected to the position and allowed to serve until they are deemed unable or unfit to do so.. or, of course, they are killed in service which is far more common. To the order of Hunters there isn't much of a prerequisite for new members to join, most magics are entirely accepted by their order and the organization is constantly experimenting with new methods to do their jobs well, however it is actually quite difficult for most would-be Hunters to pass their trials if only for how absolutely brutal the initiate training is. Few of the sheltered masses realize that, though they certainly have power and respect as Hunters, most of the members face the harsh world outside and pay a steep emotional price for their privilege inside Eden's territories. Most Hunters form groups of between the different sects of the Order, much like how adventurers form Parties in stories of eld. The more members a Hunting group has the better its odds of survival and success so Solo-Hunting is actually pretty uncommon outside of stealth missions.

- [✤]Ranks:[✤]
- Exterminator- Five people at a time can have this Rank and it is the ruling council of the Hunters; These individuals are elected to the position and typically hold the seat until retirement or death. To ensure no one Hunter has to bear the full weight of their order alone power is divided amongst them evenly, each governing their own factions and coordinating with each other to protect their home country.

- Huntsman: A Hunter that has survived long enough to be recognized as a independent individual in the organization. Huntsmen are allowed to take jobs, commission requests and rewards of their own, and accept bounties placed by the Exterminators for difficult Hunts placed on their Bounty Boards spread throughout the land. Retired Huntsmen are the only ones qualified to teach younger Hunters combat in their Headquarters.

-Blade: A recognized new Hunter, typically apprenticed to a more experienced Hunter for field-experience. Apprenticeships last anywhere from Three to Five years, or until their Mentor Hunter approves them for graduation into solo Hunting.

-Whelp/Novice: Those who are too young to Hunt or still in training by the Order, they will retain the title Whelp or Novice until they qualify to join one of the other Sects or rank up in the Dawn sect itself.

[✤]Existing Exterminators and their Sects:[✤]

- [✤] Hellsguard:[✤] The Head of the division that protects the City, Hunters under this person's command rarely venture out on Hunts beyond the country's walls. This is the 'Defender' sect. The current Hellsguard is named _________.

- [✤]Rook:[✤] This division is dedicated to research and experimentation, these Hunters study captured targets and help develop potent weapons to fight them. It isn't uncommon to have a Rook travel with a Sabre and a Codex, their insight into foes and knowledge of Freak anatomy is vital in most Hunts after all. This is the 'Brains' sect and the current head or 'Rook' of this division is named _______.

- [✤]Sabre:[✤] Known and feared as the expeditions team this sect of the Hunters is the one that ventures out into the world to cull the Freaks as needed. Roaming across the land they have safeholds and lairs in most cities, gathering intel afield and capturing targets for the Rook division's machinations back home. This is the frontline of the Hunter's society and the 'Claws' of their order, the head Sabre being _______.

- [✤]Dawn:[✤] The Dawn sect of Hunters is generally comprised of the Elderly and the Whelps of their order, along with those willing to serve but unable to help in other areas. These are the Healers, the caretakers, and the cleaners. Far from the most glamourous of sects and yet this one is vital to the health and wellbeing of the order itself, where Hellsguard is the 'backbone' and Sabre the 'Claws' this order is the 'Heart' of their people and it is defended ruthlessly by the other Sects. The head of the Dawn sect is ____.

- [✤]Codex:[✤] This sect is dedicated to gather lost knowledge of the Human race and they often travel with the Sabre sect out into the world. These individuals hunt for information and relics, anything they deem important to past Human civilization they bring home with them for study and cataloging. This sect has some degree of combat training, they have to given they travel with the Sabres, and more often than not this sect is actually the one that teaches and nurtures the youngest of their Order until they are old enough to receive practical training from Huntsmen. Members of this sect are the Librarians, Teachers, Historical Researchers, and Philosophers. The leader of this sect is currently ________.

- About Hunters -

TBE

- Known Targets-

-Cassius Ansel. Heir to the mermaid throne and a very powerful siren, he's been taking priests and hunters to a smiling aquatic death for a very long time. Needless to say, he is a high priority target.

- _________

- _________

- _________

-Additional Data-

-Before the natural disaster, the CDC was working on a 'vaccine' for non humans. The disaster derailed it but the Church got hold of it and is now using it against all non humans by mixing the compound into the bullets and weapons they're using. This substance is quite toxic to just about any species aside from humans and, as one might expect, it is produced locally to ensure a steady supply for Hunts.

- All Hunters have a Work Alias they answer to when on jobs, this is protect the Hunter themselves and their loved ones. It is considered very bad manners to call a Hunter their Alias unless they are working so be warned.

- What it means to be Human, because this is the realm of Mortals.

- Races of the World, it is best to know your enemy and in this link a range of information on known species can be studied.

- Magic, as many Humans are celebrated mages and the teaching/study of this art is strongly encouraged. Few, if any, facets of magic are shunned by Humanity. Necromancy, Contract Magic with supernatural beings, and Shape shifting are monitored closely by the Hunters as they dabble closely with 'Freak' energies so be warned.
