It was midnight when Thane stepped out, a full moon looking down at the world as he left the mansion behind and wandered the roads leading towards the nearby village. He didn’t need to personally patrol the Giovanni lands, not for at least a hundred years, there were grunts and fledglings who were given that task. But he enjoyed it, the solitude, the scurrying of small creatures in the brush, the fresh air.
Even so many years later, the nighttime world was still beautiful. Especially so now that he no longer missed the sun. In his early days, he had. Now there was only the barest trace of memory, a strange nostalgia for a certain type of warmth.
There weren’t many lights left on in the village as he circled around, slinking through the darkest of shadows, listening to the steady heartbeats of sleeping mortals. It was a shame he couldn't steal a little taste of one them. The Giovanni bite was too strong for it to be allowed. A shame. They smelt good. Tempting.
