All her work had come down to this. Brood had worked carefully to just subtly push the Vampire God in the direction she wanted. He was so easy o manipulate it was also comical. She had created the Crusnik to kill the vampires which would ultimately lead the God to try and investigate. She had given Cernunnos the Spear of Destiny, which she had created. to hold onto. Of course telling him to never open the case in which it was stored. Curiosity had almost gotten the best of him a few times but she had whisked that away from him before he ruined her plans. In the Tremere library she had been the one to toss the book that hit the Ravnos vampire in the head. The one book that ever mentioned Crusnik and the spear. Because she had created it. And it was she who let loose whispers of the possible location of the Crusnik’s lair. But there was one unexpected thing that happened she had not had a hand in. The relationship that Grendel and that vampire had. It was more than just a God and subject one. It was an ace in her back pocket if she needed it. And she most certainly would use it for her own amusement. Lounging, curled up on a black cushioned throne in her temple Brood watched the Vampire God in scryibg cup. It’s water red as blood. It swirled in great torrents around the image as blood red eyes watched. She had been bored for so long. —————- Rumors of something eating Vampires had spread pretty far by now. Although it was only spoken about in hushed whispers. Fears of talking about it out loud in case the creature were nearby and could be summoned just by mentioning ir. Deep in the forest of Hemlock, farther than anyone might have dare go, there was a cave. Large and foreboding. The scent of death hung heavy and putrid in the air. Rotting flesh and bones lay strewn about outside. A large smear of dark blood lead a trail deep inside where piles of bones sat stacked almost to the ceiling. A gruesome sight indeed. Only one creature could be living here

It had taken Grendel much longer than expected to get to this point, where he stood outside of a cave, in the darkest depths of the Hemlock Forest. Every day that had passed without him figuring out the location of the Crusnik felt like another day of failure. At first, he couldn't have even been sure that it even really existed. He had an idea of where to start looking, though, just based on the disappearances alone. However, those leads ultimately steered him to one dead end after another. The Crusnik, if it were indeed real, was elusive. In between hunts, he had spent time with Ravnos, returning to him every 2-3 days to check in as he had promised. They would spend an entire evening together, discussing how things were going, and what the God would do next, though this was always followed by more vigorous activity. He had also reconnected with his mother, Lilith, in a very interesting turn of events, though he would need to unpack that more later when he had finally finished with this task. Sometimes, his path would lead him to a Holykat or Werewolf that was killing vampires. Those were dealt with easily enough, though the Spear whispered to him urgently, wanting him to use it, telling him that he could just wipe out all enemies of vampires and be done with it. He really could not wait to get this damned thing out of his head. Though he never found the Crusnik, evidence that it did exist grew and grew. The hushed whispers became louder. He could feel the Fear in the younger vampire who spoke of it, and even some of the older ones. Sometimes he listened from the confines of his temple, and sometimes he chose to walk among them, questioning them himself. He'd tried to use is God powers to sense it, but he somehow couldn't, though this did nothing to reassure him against its existence. It all, eventually, had led him here. He stood outside of that cave and breathed in the cloying scent of rotting death and blood, his face set in a scowl. Snapping his fingers, a glowing, pulsating red flame surrounded them, reflected in his eyes. Without any further hesitation, he entered the cave and followed the trail of blood, eyes taking in the massive pile of bones within, and inwardly, his rage seethed. He was going to really enjoy killing this thing.

The deeper Grendel went, the darker it got. The heavier the air felt. Oppressive and thick. Soon he would find the path opened up into a large cavern. More bones and the sound of dripping. Pools of blood gathered deep on the floor as more bones piled against the walls.
In the center there was a large boulder. Perched upon it was a ghastly creature. From afar it might have looked like an angelic. Six large, feathery wings sprouted from it’s back. It’s arms and legs were far too long for any normal creature. It’s head was bald and featureless. What could be ribs protruded from beneath almost translucent skin and it’s stomach jutted out farther that it probably should have. A clear sign that it had eaten recently.
As soon as Grendel stepped into the open chamber it’s head snapped towards him. A line spread across its featureless face and it opened to reveal a horrible mouth filled with rows of long, pointed teeth. Each tooth stained red from all the feeding it had been doing.
It screamed in rage at this unexpected visitor. A long arm dipping into the pool of blood before it and pulling out a large scythe. With a quick beat if it’s wings it was air born and racing towards Grendel at a phenomenal speed. A set of five bright blue eyes opened on it’s face. Lidless and full of rage.
It swung it’s scythe back and forth as it barreled towards the God. Shooting sparks into the air every time it scraped against stone. The movement of the large weapon did nothing to slow it down.
There was no question that this was what Grendel had been looking for.
Brood watched. Eager for the outcome.

As he walked along the path, his eyes, still glowing with the reflection of the flames that alit his fingers, searched everywhere he could see. Bones, blood, and bones. He continued on, and as the caves got darker, the flames at his fingers brightened their glow, and as the air grew thicker, he pushed to stand taller against it. He walked, treading lightly along the cave floor, feet stained with dirt and old blood. Behind him, his tentacles writhed, a testament to the rage he felt, that only grew as he got closer to the stench, closer to whatever blasphemous creature resided at the end of the path.
Finally, he found himself in an open cavern. The smell was so thick now he felt like he might choke on it. Instantly his eyes landed on the creature in the middle of the room and swept over it. It was, as expected, absolutely horrible. His eyes narrowed, his jaw set, and he waited to see what it would do.
He didn't have to wait for long. It was moving almost the instant he stepped into the cavern, at a speed that was almost a blur. Its appearance was grotesque, with limbs far too long. It came at him with a weapon in hand, and he summoned his own. Not the Spear, no, because he (foolishly) wanted to test his own strength against the Crusnik without it. He flipped the cross-shaped weapon in hand, and the flames that lit up his fingers went out.
He moved, silently, through the shadows towards the creature that hurtled towards him at unimaginable speeds. His eyes bled to black, and when he found himself within reaching distance of that deadly scythe, he dodged it, sliding along the ground and stabbing at the Crusnik, attempting to embed his blade somewhere between it's ribs with a deep snarl.

The swing and miss of it’s scythe enraged the Crusnik. It could smell him but had little time to see Grendel’s attack.
But the attack would do little damage. Grendel’s sword would cut superficially but any further was blocked by something beneath the monster’s skin. Was that armor? A small trickle of black fluid that sizzled as it touched the ground leaked out and down the blade of the God’s sword. Oozing it’s way towards the hilt and his hands.
The Crusnik tossed it’s scythe back into the blood pool in a flurry of rage. Deciding that to deal with this it was better to use one’s own hands

He felt the blade hit something, but it was solid and gave no resistance at all. He could smell the black oozing blood before he saw it, and something about it made him wrinkle his nose. An acrid smell, a dangerous one.
Hissing a curse under his breath, he unsummoned his weapon and scrambled back to his feet. The Crusnik tossed away its own weapon, and instead of that being reassuring, it was anything but.
He backed away from it, arms opening wide and hands lighting up with the same deep red flame he had used in the cave tunnel to light the way. Forming a fist with one hand, he whipped a ball of flame with a flick of his wrist, aiming to hit it directly in the face.

The fireball hit it’s target. Sending the Crusnik’s head off to the side. Twisting it’s body where it stood.
It paused for a minute then it’s body began to come forward again. A loud freaking noise as it’s bones ground and jostled against one another. There was barely a hint of a black mark on it’s face but it’s eyes had disappeared once more so there was little damage to them.
Balling it’s long, thin fingers together it screeched and began to advance on Grendel. Swinging it’s clenched fists at him with each step it took. The wings on it’s back flaring behind it.

The thing just moved so damn fast, and he wasn't really watching where he was going particularly well. Backing up as it advanced, he felt something under his foot, probably a bone of some sort, and it was enough to throw him off his step. One of those balled-up fists clipped against his shoulder even while he tried to dodge to the side, and though it was just a clip, it somehow hurt like hell.
This thing was stronger than he had bargained for. Well, no, if he hadn't bargained for it, he wouldn't have brought the Spear of Destiny with him. However, he was still hesitant to use it. After what Cernunnos had said, no matter how reassuring Ravnos had been, there was a part of Grendel that was still worried.
Attempting to shake off the hit, he flung another fireball, this time aiming for one of the wings.

The cave around them shook and trembled. Water dripping from stalactites spraying in furious flurries all about. The Crusnik continued to throw fat after fist at the God. Anything that missed hitting the ground. Shattering stone and bone.
The fireball hit the wing but again the fire did barely any damage.

There were a couple of times that Grendel got too close, and both times he was hit. He was trying, though, to find an opening, to see a weakness that he could exploit somehow. But there was nothing. The Spear's whispers grew louder, and he knew, that eventually, he was just going to have to use it.
Growling out a huff of indignation, he lashed out at the great, stupid beast with his tentacles, stabbing at it with their sharpened ends, trying to keep it at bay. The sounds it was making screeched in his ears, grating on his every nerve. He was gritting his teeth when he finally summoned the Spear to his gloved hand and held it at the ready.
"Come on then," He growled at it, tired of playing around.
Might as well try and get this over with.

When the spear appeared in Grendel’s hand the Crusnik paused. It’s wide, tooth filled mouth agape with foaming saliva pooling out of it. The five blue eyes opened and it stared, it’s upper lip curling into a snarl as it crouched low to the ground, it’s winds folding tight against it’s back.
Was it being subjugated by the spear? Or was it waiting to see if the being before him was actually able to wield it properly. The Crusnik was not totally without a brain. It knew death when it smelt it.

What was it even doing?
"I said COME ON!" He yelled at it, flinging another fireball at its face, hoping to get it pissed off enough to come after him.
He wondered if it was afraid of the Spear. That could be promising?

The Crusnik seemed to hesitate until another fireball was flung at it’s face.
With another screech it darted forward. It’s mouth wide, teeth glinting in the darkness. As it got closer to Grendel it’s left arm suddenly changed. It writhed en mass before splitting open into a swarm on tentacles. Each line with rows of suckers. Each sucker a tiny, gaping mouth with sharp teeth.
It lunged for him. Aiming to wrap the tentacles around him.

Now that was more like it.
As the Crusnik hurtled towards him he sneered, his lip pulling back from his own set of very sharp teeth. He still held one hand aloft in flame, while his gloved hand hefted the Spear, which now free almost seemed to possess him, its whispers no longer quite so muffled. Shadows gathered around the God, a writhing mass around his feet.
If the tentacled arm with many, many mouths worried him, it didn't show in how he held himself, or the savage look in his eyes. He strode towards it, hefting the spear, and when it got close enough to grab him he sunk into the ground, melting into the shadows at his feet.
He rematerialized behind the Crusnik and with a snarl, he slammed the pointed end of the Spear into its back, dead between its shoulder blades and those many wings, twisted it, and pushed, with all the strength he had.
