The day had been like any other. The sun had risen as it always did, making its slow progression across the blue sky, and with it had arisen his coven. Each had gone about their daily tasks. Some making breakfast, others starting their morning exercise routine, still others beginning lessons for the little ones. As for Luanistyn Cían, he had decided to begin his day with a stroll along the borders, skirting just outside of their territory. It was not his usual task, as he was king of his coven, but sometimes he enjoyed roaming outside of the herd and reconnecting with the surrounding energies. This allowed him respite from the more mundane duties of being Witch King while also providing a sense of what was occurring around them. A useful bit of knowledge when protecting and caring for his ilk.
His procession around the boundaries was slow, measured. He did not need to rush; indeed, the longer he took, the more he was able to gauge and read the auras of the land. Things had seemed decent thus far. There was, however, a sense of something else in the air…something odd, that he could not quite place. “Interesting,” he mumbled to himself, striding along the outer edge of a forest. “There is something…different…” But what could it be? The dirt beneath his hooves was no different. The air he breathed was as fresh and clear as ever. Yet, he sensed a change in the atmosphere. Luanistyn drew to a halt. Tilting his head to one side, he attempted to discern what had struck him as so strange.
Green orbs cast about, searching for a possible cause. It was not until he glanced from the forest to the open field opposite that he obtained his first hint. While the forest was typically darkened due to its foliage, the field was usually vibrant and filled with frolicking creatures; however, this was not the case. Today, the field was muted and lifeless, and it appeared to be growing even more blackened with every passing moment. The stallion stared, unblinking, for an instant. “Ah!” He stirred as a realization dawned on him. He raised his gaze to where the sun hung overhead. A shadow was creeping its way across, hiding the brilliance of the golden orb behind it. “Of all the things, I did not expect to witness this in my lifetime...” Luanistyn fell silent and watched the progression. It was a sight unlike any other.
So entranced was he that the approach of any other would likely go unnoticed…
