Stars dotted the inky blackness above as a cool mist crept along the ground. The first frost's bite was on the air and Raedwulf was on the prowl. It had been a while since he had had a fresh kill and tonight was the night, he could feel it. His claws dug into the cold soft earth, still damp from the morning rain. He had ventured outside his usual hunting grounds and was unfamiliar with the terrain and territory.
His nose caught the scent of something on the wind... it was an all too familiar scent. Fresh blood. His senses went into overdrive. His mouth started watering and his vision intensified. His bloodlust had kicked in. The only thought in his mind now was finding the source. He shifted into his feral form, and took off in his search. The closest thing to glee that he could feel swept over him at the thought of a fresh kill.

"Easy, now..." Deo rasped, backing up as the body of the mangled stallion was pulled by his helpers. As much as he would rather not have to clean up the smeared blood on the ground, in this case, it couldn't be helped. The body was barely recognizable as a soquili, but Deo saw no issue in that. The body, after all, was simply a vessel, a construct of flesh that housed the soul inside. The being that had been in the body was well on their way to one day being born again, and it was simply Deo's duty to make sure that the vessel was treated with respect. And in the dark of night was the perfect time to do so with little fear of curious others ambling along to ask too many questions.
Making sure he had an empty bottle for when he was done, he began to look over the grave he had dug. He didn't have time, however, as his head snapped up, his ears swiveling at detecting a sent he didn't like. His helpers, as well, became unsettled, and at his direction, took off towards the bramble grove he called home. Whoever- or whatever- was approaching certainly wasn't there to pay respects...Or, perhaps?

Branches and briars scraped at his legs as he ran. He moved with quick precise movements to avoid fallen trees and large roots protruding from the earth. The damp forest floor covered in wet leaves caused him to slip a few times, and he fell snout first into the muck. He pushed himself up and shook the dirt and leaves from his body. This only added to his chaotic look. He sniffed the air to catch the scent again. The wind had shifted slightly but he found the direction he needed to go. Throwing his head back, he let out a long loud howl and continued his pursuit.
The scent seemed to grow strong as he neared an opening in the trees. The moon illuminated the clearing ahead and he could see a silhouette standing over a large pile on the ground. He didnt emerge from the darkness of the trees but watched hungrily, his mouth salivating as the smell of blood was stronger than ever. As he stared at it, the pile on the ground came more into focus and he could tell it was a body. That must be the fresh kill, and his next meal. He waited a moment before he emerged, waiting to see what the creature standing over the body would do. He watched in silence, hoping it hadn't heard him approach.

For most of his life, Deo had found he didn't mind the predators that skulked around the cemetery. They needed to eat, yes, and as long as he had finished his rituals, he usually let them be. Woe betide, however, the fox that dared try to interrupt him as he was cleaning a body. Even a lone bear had been chased away as it thought it had an easy snack, Deo taking advantage of his luminous wings to look much bigger than he actually was. In the end, he would have been fine with letting whatever this was partake in what was a rather fresh, juicy corpse...after he was finished. And the creatures around the area knew that by now.
Which told him that the creature that made the howl was not local. Not in the least, and he felt his fur prickle with what could only be fear. And when the wolf revealed itself, his ears swiveled and pinned back flat. No amount of knowledge about the world around him gave him an idea of what to do. All he knew was that...well, it wasn't himself he was worried about, it was the vessel. The body. Without a proper ritual, the soul couldn't be reborn. He had a choice to make, but the indecision was keeping him from acting in any way. Frozen in place, his wings not yet unfurled, Deo was having one of the biggest conflicts regarding his morals and his self-preservation he'd had yet.

The soquili had noticed him so he stepped out of the darkness into the moonlight. His teeth were bared with his lips stretched into a sneer. "Who do I have to thank for preparing my dinner?" He licked his lips as his eyes roamed over the body on the ground. He could see where it had been dragged along the ground from somewhere else. He could also see a large hole near it that could only be to bury the body. "I suppose it would be you?" He started to prowl slowly around the edge of the clearing keeping his eyes fixed on the soquili, watching for him to make a move. He hoped this would be an easy meal, but if not, he was prepared to fight for it.
