The calm after a brutal storm was always the most tenuous. As Kimya wandered the valley he tentatively looked around him then briefly turned to the sky above. As of now the sun was nowhere in sight, but he could feel it's warmth trying to press through the clouds that remained.

Still, it did little to hide the devastation around him. Large branches littered the well worn herd paths and the homes of tree dwelling creatures had been destroyed by the wind. Somewhere in the distance he'd heard lightning strike and though Kimya hadn't personally seen it he knew there would be casualties if anyone was around.

It left the Kalonageni torn. Should he go seek them out to offer his aid or...stay back where he was safe? Where they were safe? Biting his lower lip, Kimya hung his head and slowed his pace. Subconscious he moved forward despite the fear that clutched his soul, and yet, it was obvious he'd rather not.

Patzi was in shambles. The playful wind hybrid had been busy chasing clouds despite the threatening heaviness of the looming storm, the adventurous spirit knowing nothing of fear…until today. She wanted to test her limits and see how many clouds she could outmaneuver in the air and truly despised the idea of giving up her freedom just to hunker down because of some rain. So what if a little rain shower happened? Even if her familiar was yelling towards her from below, the orange fox like creature chasing after her as she darted through some trees with a laugh. “Erramun you’re too tense! It’s just another late summer rain!” She had teased before the skies suddenly turned pitch black, the storm suddenly rising to the challenge from the wind hybrid and striking hard and fast. The next thing Patzi saw was a tree thudding towards the ground, the great oak screaming in agony after lightning scorched its base setting the limbs on fire. At first she was thinking of avoiding it but the sight of Erramun below gripped the pony with fear and she found herself diving hard and fast so that she could block one of the falling limbs from hitting her dear friend.

It was one thing to play around and another thing to lose a friend!

She had blacked out after that, intense pain making her wings feel like they were on fire. Patzi wasn’t certain how long she was out for, but when she stirred the world was blurry and one of her wings wasn’t moving properly. “No, no, no!” She gasped as she tried to wiggle free from the limb that had knocked her down, the heavy branch pinning down her right wing and twisting it in an unfamiliar way. Terror griped at her heart when she saw it. Would she not be able to fly now? What was going to happen to her and where was Erramun? Had she lost him to the storm after all?!

Erramun was in a tizzy. After trying to warn his friend about the impending storm, the playful antics frustrating him quickly turned to worry after the storm swept down upon them and nearly took his own life. Now Patzi was hurt and he couldn’t do anything! He had tried dragging the limb away from her but it was really heavy and he wasn’t a medic. A whine left his throat before he noticed a Kalonageni coming their way. Normally Erramun would have been on guard against the stranger, but this time he was desperate and could not think of anything other than to run up to the stallion to plead for help. “My friend. She’s hurt! Can you help?” He cried with wide eyes as he tried to point out the direction of the fallen tree where Patzi was trapped.

Kimya wasn’t used to being approached by anyone, let alone someone asking for help.
When he first came upon the trapped mare the stallion’s reservations doubled inside of his soul, but the desperate wolf caused him to take a few steps back. His wings flared up a bit, eyes wide and fearful; though, not of the scene infront of him.

It was the words inside of his head that truly scared Kimya. The words of his mother, slinking in around his brain, urging him to finish the job. He could easily kill her now that she was pinned and feast on her flesh –

No! No no no no. He wouldn’t! Not again!

He just…he just needed to be stronger than this, right? She needed help and he…Spirits, he was terrified.

Looking back to the wolf, Kimya nodded his head slowly and folded his wings back against his body. As he came closer he took stock of the situation. First things first; he needed to get the branch off her wing. Dipping his head down, Kimya angled his head and neck underneath to lift it up. With any luck she would take the hint and if not he would toss it to the side.

Erramun was a worried mess. The wolf was bouncing back and forth as he waited for the stranger to help out. If anything else had happened he was willing to bare his fangs to try and protect Patzi, but thankfully the stallion was moving the branch. “Thank you.” He breathed before watching his companion move slowly.

“So loud.” Patzi winced in pain before realizing what was going on. While it was agonizing to move her wing, the wind hybrid did her best to tuck it against her body as crooked as it was. Her hooves dug into the ground and she slowly dragged her body out before kneeling on the ground in front of the stranger. Everything hurt and for once she wasn’t really in a talkative mode. Her heart was a mess, her sudden discovery of fear tightening her chest into a painful knot.

Don't thank me.

Kimya couldn't look into those eyes. He didn't deserve the wolf's thanks. He wouldn't say that if he knew what was going on in Kimya's head. Taking a deep breath, he tried to keep the branch as steady as possible until she could maneuver her way out and once she was free the Kalonageni set it back down onto the ground once more.

Getting a look at the wing now that it was exposed was disheartening. It was definitely broken; it didn't take a healer to know that much. Kimya lifted a wing to expose a saddle bag and bit by bit he started removing supplies from within.

He reached for a few leaves that would relieve pain and sat them by her hooves. Kimya tapped the ground a few times, trying to get her to look at him, wherein he mimicked a chewing action.

To the wolf he raised a hoof to draw a line in the muck around them. After the line had been maid he motioned toward the tree line, where several branches and sticks lay in disarray, then motioned to the broken wing. He had bandages; just nothing to support the bone with.

Even though her mind was wrapped in a fog of pain, Patzi recognized healing supplies as they were pulled from the bag. While the stranger was oddly quiet the mare understood that he wanted her attention and after a moment she slowly reached down to take the herbs. If she died because of poison then so be it. What was life if she could never fly again, after all? The very thought terrified Patzi and so she endured the pain to chew the leaves given to her by the stranger out of sheer desperation. She would rather take a chance than never fly again! Every movement made her body ache but Patzi kept quiet as she focused on chewing the bitter herbs, her gaze glazed with pain as numbness slowly took over.

Erramun was still on edge, but after a moment he saw the line in the muck. “A barrier?” He asked with a whine, not liking the idea of being away from Patzi’s side for even a moment. Still though he noticed the gesture and a sigh left him as he even realized the basic needs. “Sticks, huh?” Erramun murmured before giving a hesitant glance at Patzi once more. He eventually moved though once he realized she was even willing to take the herbs the stranger offered and after a few moments the wolf came back with various sticks, tossing them towards the stallion to see whatever would suffice.

Kimya shook his head and frowned before saying the word, “Brace.” In a garbled mess of a voice. It was barely above a whisper, as if his speech were being pulled through a valley of blades and the act itself caused him pain. Where had he even gotten barrier…? Doesn’t matter.

While the wolf was gone Kimya started organizing his things and shifted a bit so he could better assess the wing. Now that he was closer he was a little surprised. It looked a mess, had to hurt like hell, but honestly it didn’t look as bad as he thought. With the proper treatment it should heal just fine.

When sticks were brought back, Kimya shifted some around with a wing, brushing the smaller ones to the side while looking for the larger ones. Before he got to work on the wing, he looked at them both and with much effort managed to make out the words, “One moon.” This time they weren’t even a whisper so much an exhalation of air that still didn’t come out quiet right. He didn’t have a lisp, but the injuries that still scared his throat stunted them.

And with that said, he started to brace the wing. Once finished it would be bandaged tight, and while able to move some would hopefully stay closed so that it could heal. Of course, that depended on whether or not the prey would listen to…him…

You did it again.

And so he did.

Erramun’s fur stood up at the sound of the voice. Something about it just startled the wolf and he couldn’t help noticing the scars for the first time since encountering the stranger. He had been so focused on Patzi’s pain that he hadn’t even fully glanced over the blue stallion. Any other time Erramun would have pulled Patzi far away, but at least this time it seemed the gamble and the desperation had worked out. His gaze softened as he realized that the appearance was misleading and truly they owed the stranger for his help. If it didn’t look like talking was so painful for the stallion then Erramun would have even asked his name. All he could do for now though was watch as Patzi’s wing was set.

“Thank you.” Patzi managed the words through the haze, her gaze brimming with tears as the wing was set and slowly bandaged. Normally the wind hybrid was a lot more talkative but now she was silent, battling both her trauma and the waves of pain that still came at random despite the bitter herbs. They did help but they couldn’t completely disconnect her from the wing, something that was her pride and joy as someone who loved flying more than anything else in this world.

“We truly owe you one.” Erramun finished as he slowly crept closer so that he could sit by Patzi’s side. “You saved Patzi today, truly.”

Maybe he really could be more than his mother’s creation. He’d helped this mare, hadn’t he? And he hadn’t snapped once! Hadn’t even tried to eat her familiar…And he knew he could snap it in half, too. Still…that wasn’t who Kimya really was and hearing the words of thanks, however muffled, still warmed him.

The Kalona’geni dug around his herbs once more to leave a few of the numbing ones behind, just incase it bothered her later, and slid them closer to the wolf. If he was her protector then he could make sure she didn’t take too much at once. As he stood the stallion looked at the two of them with an awkward sort of smile that unintentionally showed his oversized fangs. It was…odd to have others thankful to have him around. But…it was also nice.

Maybe he could do this again one day.

Kimya dipped his head and started on his path again. For now he would steer clear of others, at least for today, but there was a worry that had been chipped away.

Erramun initially felt his blood freeze at the sight of those fangs before remembering that this was the stallion who had helped Patzi. “Be safe!” He found himself calling out after a moment, his paws protectively around the herbs as he turned to try and help Patzi to their nearby shelter.

Patzi was just thankful that she had survived this ordeal. There was still the terror of never being able to fly again which would perhaps make her more careful in the future about taking such risks but having a healer help out made her feel more relieved. This time it seemed her fears would be simply fears and not reality as she was confident she could heal now, especially after getting the aid she needed. The mare wobbled a bit as she relied upon Erramun to help her towards their little shelter, the pain slowing down her steps but the herbs and wrapped wing at least making it possible to move forward one step at a time.
