This is a completed Discord roleplay between Ashura & Dead Reckoning, written by Shi Berry & Wasteland Wyvern.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

The sun was sitting pretty on the horizon, blood red in color, when the purewalker awoke from her nap. Always more of a nocturnal predator she often awoke around this time. She stretched her paws out in front of her relishing in the gentle pop and creak of her bones as they limbered up for the nights fun. This particular purewalker called herself Dead Reckoning, self named for she was the reckoning of most creatures before she sent them to their grave.

After her stretch she stood up properly and gave a great yawn her mouth alight with the hellfire that filled her being, spilling forth from only her eyes and maw. She looked out from her cave to the dead tree that lay in front of it, admiring the leafless branches as they swayed gently in the slightly chilly breeze. Quickly shifting shape she jumped into the tree using one of its larger branches to help her on her way down. With a few quick bounds she was on the forest floor, her paws disturbing the dry cracked leaves and making them crinkle a bit under her weight.

Once on the ground she looked to her well hidden cave high off the ground and smirked wondering if tonight she'd bring home a new pelt to adorn the floors. Still in cat form she sauntered off looking for whatever it was that was calling her out to hunt this eve.

A flickering light in the distance danced in the corner of his eye, causing the white walker to turn his head in its direction. It was a small light - not dim, but small. Perhaps he would have missed it, had the sun been slightly higher in the sky, but now, in the long shadows of the red trees and rolling hills, it was all too apparent. 'A fire?' he thought to himself as he sauntered towards the source, the fiery light of the sun glinting off the silver blade at his side.

He did not stop his approach even as the light bounced down from a large tree and seemed to shrink, now moving just above the forest floor. His eyebrows furrowed just slightly with mild suspicion, though he remained calm and steady. Very little disturbed him, and a small, jumping flame was more curious than it was concerning.

Slowly, the flame came into view, emitting from a small, feline creature with the most intriguing tail. It rivaled his own in terms of bushiness, but this was no fox. His own tails flicked with interest as he considered taking it for himself. He might have, were he still subject to the ravenous bloodlust inherent to his species. This cat creature was lucky, for he had long since learned to restrain the instinctual desire to immediately maim the living beings he came across, though not by choice. Though his earnest, kind, and powerful master tried his best to rehabilitate the demonic foal, he did not succeed. Nevertheless, there were certain things that Ashura managed to learn, such as logic and some degree of discipline.

How and why would he carry such a cumbersome, fluffy, and, most likely, dirty tail?

He stopped, several paces still separating him from the cat creature. He observed it as it moved, still curious about it. It was certainly unlike anything he had seen before, and he could not help but harbor some feelings of distrust towards it. He knew better than anyone that appearances were deceiving.

Dead Reckoning slowed her gait for a moment, her superb feline senses giving her the warning that she was no longer alone. Being careful as to not give away the game to her watcher she halted, sat on her haunches fluffy tail waving slightly with the breeze, and washed a paw with her tongue. A bit of her inner fire leaking light into the area as her mouth opened and closed with each swipe. Using the motion to hide her flaming eyes looking about for any and all trespassers she finally noticed him, the white ghostly shape in her peripheral vision. Both amused and annoyed at his presence she decided to stay in cat form and see what he would do.

Carefully she stood, flicked her fluffy tail, and was off bounding through the night towards a large lake that sat in the sparsely forested area she called home, intending for a drink and wondering if the white ghost would follow.

The little cat creature stood up and ambled off into the darkness. It did not flee, rather, it seemed as if it wanted him to accompany it. It appeared to be a playful creature, if not a touch too carefree. Once again proving itself to be an intriguing, little being, he obliged, ambling after it.

Not much time had passed before the two came upon an undisturbed lake among the dry hills and scanty trees. He raised an eyebrow. He had so many questions about this odd feline. Why would any fiery being willingly travel to water? Would it not extinguish that which burned within it? He felt a twinge of temptation to snatch the cat by the scruff of its neck and hurl it into the water just to find out for himself what would happen to the flames, but he resisted. He was more interested in what its plan was, bringing him here to this place that would seem to be an area of vulnerability for it.

A huffed a stifled chuckle. "You're an interesting, little thing," he finally voiced, his voice smooth and pleasant, as he continued to observe the feline.

She ignored his words even as they sent a ripple up her spine lifting the fur along it giving her a slightly larger appearance. More than anything she hated being called little. She knew she was smaller than most walkers being of the cat species but she made up for it with her cunning, speed, and uncanny luck that followed her around. Continuing to ignore him, at least for a moment, she bent and took a drink the light of her internal fires once again giving a warm glow to the area around her even as her cold eyes watched the water in front of her for any water born predators. After she had sated her thirst she moved away from the water, far enough that he couldn't try anything that involve the lake, and stared at him. Those eyes so cold despite the flames that touched them. She cocked her head and him and gave a deep meow. Did he still mistake her as nothing more than a feline? Why give away the game right away after all...

He noticed its hackles rise after he spoke, a smirk tugging at the ends of his lips. So it could understand him. "Very interesting."

He patiently waited for it to finish its drink, quietly regarding the fact that it could, in fact, drink water. He did not know why he was surprised, for it seemed that all creatures that roamed these lands relied on water to some degree. Surely even the fiery ones are still subject to basic physiology. Although, it proceeded to put some distance between itself and the lake once it was finished, evidently not comfortable with being so close to it for very long. Perhaps water did deter it to some degree. He would be sure to remember that for future reference.

Ashura held its gaze as its fiery eyes bore into him. It felt as though they were both searching each others depths for answers. He flexed his claws with thought, scoring the ground in front of him. "Tell me, little thing," he began, taking a single step towards the feline, "if you understand me, can you speak, too?"

She watched as he stepped closer to her, but held her ground, confident if need be that she could outrun him. "Speak... Of course, I can speak... Speech is a simple thing to learn once one knows how..." Her flaming eyes lit up brighter for a moment in silent laughter as she wondered, 'Does he still mistake me for a simple cat?' She'd never met another walker that couldn't recognize one of their own kind even in animal form. From where did he come that he was so unused to seeing others in their animal forms..?

She resisted the urge to flex her claws into the dirt and it was the hardest thing she'd ever done. The itch to attack was right there alongside it too, but she had to temper herself. Had to watch and learn before launching her assault.

"Oh?" he remarked, canting his head at her - surely it was a she with that voice. "You'd be surprised at how little some people know, little thing. You can teach some to speak for years and they will never really grasp it." He took another step forward, testing her boundaries. There was a noticeable tension in the air, like a taught string threatening to snap. His gaze was steady and severe, and such a small creature should have yielded by now.

"What are you?" he finally questioned, eyes glinting with fascination on the surface while a more sinister feeling stirred in their depths. He had his suspicions about this feline, and, the more time he spent with her, the more he felt that his suspicions were true. It did not take much brain to realize that this was no simple cat.

She grinned a very feral grin at him, then proceeded to lick her paw for a few minutes feigning disinterest in this whole thing. "You are right of course. Something I can't deny that some are just too simple to ever grasp such a thing as speech." She watched his foot move again eyes alight with amusement at his steady approach, testing her resolve. She felt a growl start to rise up in her chest but stifled it.

"I am what I am... What are you?" She asked mockingly before sprinting quickly to a nearby tree. Digging her sharp feline claws into the bark she ascended quickly before kicking off allowing herself to fly over his head and come down on the other side before shifting shape. With a bite to her voice she spoke, "You'll never be fast enough to catch me so why don't we... Parlay?" She grinned, the inner fire spilling from her maw with little crackling noises. She couldn't breathe fire but it did however often escape her lips licking gently at the edges of her pelt. "Why are you here?" Was her first question.

He smirked, eyes alight with continued interest. "The same as you, I think." He watched her movements, fast and deliberate, as she darted up the tree and leapt over him, finally revealing her true form. Speed was her strength it seemed. Good, he always enjoyed dueling with the quick and intense foes. It was far more interesting than the slow and strong ones. "Perhaps," he pondered out loud. He was not one for chases, preferring honest, immediate duels than protracted games of hide and seek or tag. His ears pricked up at her odd request. "Parley?" His eyes narrowed. Did she really intend to flee instead of fight? Ashura despised pursuing his opponents - after all, pursuits were for prey. There was nothing to be learned when his opponents ran.

He huffed in agitation, having been looking forward to a duel. It seemed as though he would not have one today, leastways not now. "I was passing through, looking for a good sport," he answered plainly. "What about you? Is this your home?" He still hoped that he could coerce her into a fight, perhaps if he said the right things or asked the right questions. Walkers were known for their tempers, after all.

She pondered his words for a moment rolling them over in her head a few times wondering what kind of sport he chose to pursue. She almost asked him about it, but decided better upon it when the dying sunlight caught the edge of the blade at his side. She wasn't sure she wanted to test the bite of that blade... Yet at least.

A smile on her face she instead said, "Home enough for now... I may move on in time considering the through traffic.." She was alluding to his sudden presence here. She didn't like to share her prey after all.

Carefully she moved a bit closer, testing his limits. He'd done the same to her when she was in her feral form and she couldn't help but do the same to him. For what was a cat without her games after all?

"Sorry for the intrusion," he retorted, a smirk reforming on his maw. "You didn't really make your presence known." It would not have mattered regardless, except perhaps he would have been more eager to locate her and duel. He held his ground as she approached, calm and still - perhaps unusually controlled for those of their kind. He was not easily fazed; she would come to find that out for herself soon enough. "I respect stealth; however, if you want to claim your land, you have to fight for it." The thought excited him. He could feel his muscles scream for release, though he did not physically tense. He knew better than to telegraph his intentions. "Don't you think?"

Slitted flaming eyes narrowed slightly and a pout she didn't show registered immediately to the jilted walker. She didn't get the response she wanted, in fact other than words no response at all... What a boring life this one must live... "Hmmm... I suppose one should fight for their territory but fighting is just so brutish..." She felt her muscles bunch a second before she launched herself at him teeth bared aimed for his front leg hoping to cripple or at least damage him a bit. She knew he was bigger, stronger, but she was faster.

Just what he wanted.

Although he could see the opening, he was unable to take advantage of it. The furry-tailed walker was too quick for him to react the way that he would have liked. Instead, he moved instinctively, sidestepping her attack. "'So brutish?'" he repeated, amused. It was not unlike him to make conversation during a duel, and he did not mind the occasional dance, so he restrained his offense.

It was very similar to his training. When he was learning how to fight, a common exercise was having one partner attack while the other defends. Right now, he could be the defender, if she wanted to be the attacker.

"If you don't like to fight, what do you do instead?"

Missing her initial attack as he sidestepped her, she shifted forms to prevent him from attacking her unprotected back and slipped around and away from him. Her attack resumed swiftly, all claws and fangs as she nipped and scratched and bit, trying to harry him into making an error that she could take advantage of.

In this form, she was faster still, but much weaker. If he landed a blow she'd feel it for sure, so she tried to keep moving at all times. However she didn't see the harm in continuing their verbal duel as well, "I sneak, I stalk, I hide. I take advantage of all things the shadows and small stature can offer. What I lack in muscle I make up for in other ways..."
