It's midday, and rumors piqued your curiosity just enough to spur you towards your destination. The rumor is that the self-proclaimed, Monster Hunter Kale, may have a quest for any available takers. There is no more information than this, but you travel to his home in Kells nonetheless. Eagerly seeking out this rather famous individual for a possible reward - should you complete what he asks.

    User Image

Approaching the scene may feel familiar, or not. For those who had already participated in a hunt before things seemed much like the last encounter. Standing, broad shouldered, and excited as a puppy was the very confident looking Kale, the self-proclaimed Monster Hunter. At a quick glance most experienced hunters, given their last involvement, can sense a lighter mood from the quest giver, an almost childish sparkle in his eye. That light hearted attitude would make it easy for anyone to approach and as they do so the berserker eagerly welcomes them.

The welcome is uniform though, a question he firmly believes needs to be asked: is hunting an act of passion or merely an obligation? Those who faced the last challenges would be familiar with this and likely welcome the question with more gusto. For those who are hearing it for the first time may take a moment to reflect, but not long before Kale moves on and begins spinning a wild tale.

“The whimsical landscape of the next location will have your jaw drop in awe.” Kale begins smoothly, eyes wide, head lowered and tone dramatic as he carries onto his next statement. “For all that glitters is not only gold.” His wide eyes narrowed as his lips curled into a devilish grin. It’s clear that he isn’t giving all of the details, what fun would that be? And besides, it becomes apparent as he continues, that perhaps this Monster Hunter, masterful as he may be doesn’t know all that there is to know about this quest.

“Rumor has it that in the rivers of Kells, or at least a very specific river, there are sparkling creatures. It’s possible that you may stumble across several matching this description - a turtle here, or a frog there - but I am looking for something very specific.” He carried on, not caring that the puzzled looks in front of him weren’t resolving themselves. Kale did these things with purpose. “My request, should you choose to accept it, will be to have you go to the location and provide proof of the existence of these sparkling creatures.” He raises a brow and leans in, towards the audience.

    “Do you accept?”

    ------

    Summary:
Right around midday you find yourself at the home of the self-proclaimed Monster Hunter, Kale Greenleaf. Whispers have reached the canny old Monster Hunter about a strange, glimmering creature that will give its finder "magical properties." The reason you have gone so far out of your way is because of a rumor that Kale is offering a reward to those that complete his quest.

    Rules:
    • Everyone may participate, including staff members.
    • You must have a character on official Kells lines in order to participate!
    • You must follow the prompts and respond accordingly. We will be reading them over to ensure all participants are following this rule.
    • Please post for each of your characters individually when responding to prompts.
    • For every response over 150 words your character will receive 1 RP point!
    • If you find yourself struggling to understand please seek guidance in our [FAQ]. If your question hasn't already been answered, kindly fill out the form provided and post it. You never know who might have the same question as you!

    How to Play:
Choose up to two (2) characters to be used for the duration of this event! Have them respond and react, individually, to the prompts provided. There will be a possibility for several "levels" (we will refer to them as "locations" ) for your characters to react and respond to. Some of these locations will be locked unless a particular series of events has been rolled. Each location (level) will have its own description of how to participate!

This quest shall remain open until August 15th, with the possibility of a bonus area that will remain open an additional 2 weeks if 15 Fairy Fish are successfully found by Monster Hunters. Should Monster Hunters fail to unlock all the locations within that 1 month period, Kale may forget additional pursuits and as a result the quest will end early. [Time/duration is dependent on activity.]

Additionally, each individual character will begin this quest with something we will refer to as Action Points! These points will allow your characters to react in certain ways to some of the prompts provided, should you choose to spend them. These points will not reset or restock during this season , so you must spend them wisely. Each player will be responsible for keeping track of their points throughout the quest. You may not restart the quest, once action points are used up your character will be considered done with the quest even if they do not make it to the end.

If your character is a Monster Hunter (meaning they have the Monster Hunter cert), you will begin with 5 Action Points.

If your character is NEW to Monster Hunting, meaning they have not completed a quest nor do they have a Monster Hunter cert, you will begin with 3 Action Points.

For this encounter with Kale, you will respond accordingly with each character, making an agreement to join in on this quest. It is up to you, as to how your character(s) came to be at Kale's eagerly awaiting paws.

Are you prepared to take on this Quest, Monster Hunter?

Please post in this thread with your character(s) individually accepting this quest!

The crazed gleam in the crotchty Monster Hunter's eyes makes you wonder if you should rethink your acceptance of his quest. But the deal has been made and you are afraid to back out now! Kale begins to pace back and forth, which makes the space feel smaller with his massive size.

"I've been looking everywhere, for anywhere, but I keep only finding glimpses of nowhere." He growls. Then halts, pinning you with his fiery gaze.

"Maybe that tree Everquest mentioned has potential." With that, Kale dismisses you, retreating back into the innards of the structure he calls home, grumbling to himself and no longer making sense.

You're Quest Has Just Begun, Monster Hunter.

"I Accept Your Quest."

Those four words fell from her lips as she stood at attention before him, nodding once as confirmation. Truthfully, even though she lived her life with the intent for peace, and strove to be an ambassador for the territories, Eve was also an information broker for some.

A rumor had caught her ear, and a special friend sent her to the home of the famed Monster Hunter Kale to further investigate. So - now here before the behemoth she stood, ready and willing to put in the work to see this through.

"I understand the task before me. I am to go to the location you provide, one of the rivers of Kells, and I am to find a creature of unusual being. Something that lives, and sparkles, but is not typical or easily found, then I am to return with proof of it's existence."

Years alone in her youth made survival difficult and she had the diminutive stature to show for it - Kale was already a big male even as far as the Berserkers she'd met - but she, she was barely bigger than some of the large male dire wolves she'd met.

As such, she was lighter on her feet and quicker than most. Adept at stealth, and infinitely patient, with the intent to learn and put good into the world, she could not help but be excited, motivated. Her paws were still, but she was digging her claws into the dirt, her shoulders were rising and falling as she rotated them in preparation for the journey ahead. She was eager and his energy was contagious.

"To the tree then."

xxxxxxHawkstep stretched her toes in the new dirt under her paws as she listened to Kale speak. She and her mate had heard tell of Kale and his quests and the possibility of exploration and reward was too tantalizing for the two of them to ignore. Leaving Sky Flight to watch their home the two had set out to hear what it was that the Beserker was looking to find.
xxxxxx"Finding some river critters for you?" Hawkstep cocked an eyebrow at the Beserker. They'd traveled all this way... to go fishing? She glanced at Ocean Relic, shrugging. They'd come all this way... why not commit.
xxxxxx"I'll take on your request, Beserker, Ocean and I will seek the tree and the creatures that haunt you so," she bowed her head to him, stepping back to allow Ocean Relic to occupy the space before Kale. She watched the area, curious about the others who may come to accept the task. What were they getting themselves into this time?

xxxxxxOcean stood steadfast behind Hawkstep, awaiting her turn to accept the trial from Kale. She danced on her feet, swaying back and forth; her energy levels bursting through the treetops. Where her mate was stoic and pointed she was erratic and excitable, crashing through the brush for want of treasure more than stealth. Kale's words very nearly flew one ear and out the other as she waited for him to finish speaking. For all she cared she'd be sent to climb a tree, as long as that treasure dangled in her future she'd do nearly anything to have it within her paws.

xxxxxxShe stopped moving only for a moment when Hawkstep spoke as if transfixed by her mate's voice; her eyes ceasing their excited darting to rest longingly on Hawkstep's face focused on how her mouth moved when she spoke. As if on queue the minute she stopped Ocean began her anxious jittering. "You mean to tell me," she began sternly, staring Kale in the eyes, "You called us over here to find something in the water for you?" A quick squeak escaped her throat, "This is going to be the best quest ever Hawky!" She spun to her mate for a moment, an ever-growing, moronic grin on her face. Hawk rolled her eyes lovingly in response.

xxxxxxOcean Relic turned back to the Beserker, still beaming, "I will absolutely do this thing for you! Hawk too! We will both do this! We will find the shiny thing by the tree!" She lowered her head respectfully for just a moment before bouncing over to Hawk and began nudging her back into the trees to find The Tree.

As she grew into adulthood, Skuld found herself more uncertain about what she would do in life. Thankfully, the pack she had followed her mother into was one that let her explore the outside as well, and she had to admit that she enjoyed having a home base to return to. That being said, she found herself yearning to learn more of the world, of how she fit into it....

So when talk of monster hunting became more common, she couldn’t help but nose her way into it. She stood among her fellows, ears perked up curiously as Kale spoke, and, seeing an opportunity, trotted forward.

"I’ll go. I’m sure I’ll find your query," she said with a confident air. She really had no idea if she would, but in her opinion, the best way to start an adventure was with confidence in her goal.

So, after listening intently to his instructions, Skuld nodded and turned to start her search.

The rumors were true, Oath Breaker hadn't been long from his home before he overheard some rumblings of someone that called them self a Monster Hunter. The self appointed title made the puma grimace and although he wouldn't admit it out loud it also piqued his interest. The definition of monster varied from individual to individual, from community to community, and so his curiosity formed around one question - what monsters did he hunt?

Oath Breakers decision to carry out finding his answer was made quickly.

Finding the source of the rumors was easy, anyone who appointed themselves anything always made it easy to discover their whereabouts. Upon his arrival he discovered that he wasn't the first to show up, instead he found himself surrounded by chattering wolves - for the most part. The constant noise was an unpleasant change of scene from his otherwise peaceful trip and so when he was given the opportunity to accept the quest, he did so with haste.

"Yes, I accept your quest."

Accepting his quest hadn't answered a single question except to say that his quests were popular. His ears flicked forward as the wolf carried on explaining what it was they were questing for. The Monster Hunter, Kale as Oath Breaker discovered with time, was vague and spoke as though he were telling a story. It led Oath to believe that the creature may not even be real, let alone a monster. Still he wondered, and the quest was already accepted. It was time to begin.

Boredom had been her initial reason for coming here, but as she stood amongst the rest of the would-be monster hunters, Sunflower felt her interest piqued. With her mother being who she was, this dire wolf was known to be aimless, never wanting to settle (or at least never finding a reason to), and so the idea of hunting creatures in new lands seemed like a fun one. One with little commitment to anyone but the one who gave her the job.

Sunflower Symphony watched a few of the other animals make their way over to talk to Kale, debating how best to start as well. For a moment, she was tempted to just turn around and go her own way - she knew everything she needed to know now, after all - but perhaps that was rude.

That thought in mind, the she-wolf stood and padded closer, softly speaking up, "I accept as well." Her voice was soft, barely a whisper, but the purpose had been said. Turning, she began her journey to the aforementioned tree.

Einarr was a Knight of the Fallguard. He became such for the purpose of doing honorable things, like winning duels and going on Ventures and winning hearts of fair maidens. The latter was the only thing he had managed to do so far and Silke was waiting at home for him, as far as he could tell. He'd told his lady love that he was going on a Venture of grand sorts and he would be home soon enough. Thus, following the rumors, he found himself in front of the wolf Kale. A Berserker! Einarr had growled and bared his teeth at the enemy of the Fallguard and at the other berserker scum he saw too. Yet there were others here. He spotted at least two direwolves, she-wolves by the look of it. They were fools to trust anything coming out of a berserker's mouth! But...If they were so naive, then... it was in Einarr's paws to protect them! He forced his fur to lie flat and his ears to perk.

"I will accept your quest." He grumbled, his tail quivering. He was suddenly so thankful that his dear, precious Silke had stayed home. He lifted his head and turned his gaze towards the tree that was indicated to him. He wouldn't tell his pack about this particular venture, but the parts that were the most important. He would tell them about how he protected others from berserker scum that his pack hated so and come home a hero. With this thought in mind, he watched the berserker who called himself Kale carefully, before he padded into the unusual tree structure to discover what awaited him, unaware that his sister was among him as one of the searchers.

At the urging of his Father, Jaroslav set out into the world to better understand the way it ticked and more specifically about it's wildlife. Growing up he had had flora and fauna drilled into his brain so much that he had nearly forgotten about anything outside of vegetation and headaches.

"Find Kale, he is a Monster Hunter, and surely he will be able to provide some guidance."

Olvar's words rattled around in Jaro's already sore head. Finding the Monster Hunter turned out not to be the hard part. "Hello, I--" He started and stopped. His eyes burning holes into the berserkers soul as the much larger male spoke over him. He hadn't simply rolled over and accepted the proposal, he was sure this was the reason - or perhaps he was taking it all personally because he had no desire to be here. Frustration leaked from the dark, oddly marked, wolf and eventually he gave in. Much like the others who had approached Kale, he spoke plainly.

"Yes, I accept your quest." At the end of his great acceptance he rolled his eyes and audibly sighed. "We're going on an adventure." He grumbled to himself and didn't hesitate another moment to get started.

Meadowsweet was finally going outside of the territory! Something she wasn't sure if she'd be able to do. It seemed like no one left the territory these days-why would they want to? She understood that many were content to stay in their haven, but Meadowsweet... she wanted something more than that! She wanted to be regarded as highly as any of the Seers in the pack! Of course, to do this was pretty impossible, but Meadowsweet was idealistic. If she couldn't suddenly see the future herself, why... she'd do something even more grand!

Thus, when she overheard rumors of a quest, she ran to beg Raven's permission to go. When it had been granted, she was overjoyed and left with the promise that she would be back with great stories to tell and even better delights for the pack! The hope to finally become something on the same level of the idolized Seers fueled her heart. She did not pale at the sight of the berserker male.

"I accept your quest!" She announced and practically bolted into the tree. This was it! This was her moment! She wasn't going to let anything get in her path to greatness!

Wild Holly was then excited when she heard that Kale was looking for Monster Hunters again. She hurried off to make her way to the location and listened to what he wanted them to do this time. Huh, no huge powerful monsters this time it would seem. Not that she actually got to see any of them but she did find some really kool stuff that she gave Kale. Wild Holly had not taken on the tasks of being a Monster Hunter for fame, she had taken it on for more personal reasons. She wanted more then anything to find the veil and find out if her brother had disappeared into it, or if he was dead. It was a question that had haunted Wild Holly for many years. Wild Holly smiled she felt as excited as Kale looked. Wild Holly nodded "Of course, I accept your quest." She was really curious about these sparkly creatures.

Cross Road Winds had been traveling the land for a long time now, he didn't stay in one place for too long, he enjoyed going to new places and meeting new creatures. In his travels, he started hearing some rumors about monster hunters. Curious he made his way to the location he had heard about and sat down listening to this tale about sparkling fish. He was curious enough to go on this quest even though he had never done anything like this before he was still hopeful he would do well. "I accept your quest." He said simply as the others had been saying. He wasn't sure what he should expect from this adventure but he was confident this would not be a boring time. He figured even if he didn't find a fish he would still have new stories to tell the other creatures he met on his travels. Which he enjoyed a great deal, finding new things sharing his journey with others there was nothing more fun than that.

"Kale Greenleaf," she greeted him with no small amount of enthusiasm. Her tail wagged with such force that her entire hindquarters swayed with it. Their reunion was clearly fated, though in truth she had spent many moons searching for him. Our Lady's Tears took in his visage, the handsome brown of his coat, the sly blue tones of his scruff, even the intricate dark markings swirling down his front legs...

No.

She noticed it there, a piece of cloth tied neatly around his forearm, the bow taunting in its femininity. Lady tried to be discreet as she sniffed the air for clues as to whom had left such a gift with him. Fortunately, Kale seemed too distracted by informing her of the next hunt to notice Lady's suspicious behavior. The young female's mind whirled with treacherous thoughts as he described a river and some other stuff that were not nearly as important as finding out who Kale had been around lately.

So caught up in her own thoughts, Lady nearly forgot why she had been searching for Kale all this time (beyond trying to woo him, of course). "Wait, please!" she interrupted. "I have a worthy monster to show you, not just evidence, but a creature of flesh and bone, and possibly mud." Lady rambled breathlessly and cast a frantic look back over her shoulder for her travelling partners... Who were now mysteriously absent, of ******** course.

"He calls himself a Kirin, a horse with a horn upon his head, sharp enough to pierce straight to one's heart!
Much like you have done mine " Once again, she glanced behind herself as if expecting Journey and Arcstrider to suddenly appear. "I swear, he was just with me. He's as fine a monster as any and I'm sure you'd be greatly intrigued by him," Lady promised as the wind was blown out of her sails.

"...Oh, okay, fine, I'll take on this hunt."

Howl had been searching for some time for something to do. Life had grown still as his training came to an end and his teacher announced he had completed his journey. Howl didn't feel done, though, and had turned his attention to finding something new. Something more he could learn.

    Monster Hunting.

He had forgotten how it came to his attention, but it had, evident by how he sat before Kale quietly, listening to the Berserker continue on. Howl had seen plenty in his life, but not monsters. It was a part of life he had yet to experience, and if anyone knew Howl he wanted to experience life. Howl cleared his throat, nodding in response to Kale.

"I will accept your quest," he answered, voice low and gravely. He needn't say more, as was often Howl's motto, instead turning around to begin his journey to the tree aforementioned.
