Koukouy heaved a great sigh, stirring the dust under her muzzle as it rested between her front paws. Finally alone. Now that they were adols, their father had stopped fretting over them so much. It was hard when your parent constantly hovered. Somehow their mother had dragged their worried papa off somewhere.
Even resting, Koukouy was always on the alert. Her eyes were watching, if not her eyes then her ears were listening, if not her ears then her nose was sniffing, if not her nose then her paws were feeling for vibrations. She tended to notice new things first; when their ever watchful father wasn't around that was. Right now the greatest difference she noticed was how much quieter it was.
She lifted her head and took a deep sniff. Her orange tail tuff flicked through the dirt. She knew that scent.

Erasme slowed to a trot as she came over the hill, dark paws coated with dust. She knew her sister was around here somewhere, and honestly, she could use the company. She'd been told that it was just the way of fathers to fret over their young lionesses. Their papa was certainly no exception. Yet know that the girls were older - not yet proper ladies, but definitely not floppy little cubs any longer - their father had been a little more distant. Erasme found herself missing his constant attention, surprisingly lonely without his guidance.
The dark-haired twin found her sibling just where she thought, smiled as she approached. Erasme bent her head, moving to brush her forehead against Koukouy's. "Enjoying your freedom?" A hint of laughter colored the obvious tease, if the winsome curl of her tail didn't make it clear enough. Glad as Erasme was to share the afternoon alone together, she was pretty sure her sister didn't feel the same way about their father's absence.

Koukouy waited, kneeding the ground. She purred and head bumped her twin back. "Very much. It's so nice not having anyone constantly peering over your shoulder." Her twin always seemed much more tolerant of it, but it just rubbed her nerves the wrong way. It was always a struggle for her not to snap at whoever was hovering.
"Got any plans for the day?" Without her parents there to decide what she should be doing, Kou was almost having a hard time deciding. Probably because she was never allowed to make much of her own choices before. Erasme was the social one of the pair.

Erasme's eyes lit up, baring her teeth at Koukouy in a grin. "I'm still peering over your shoulder, though," she murmured - teasing again, for the words were warm with laughter. The young lioness' paws carried her back and away from her twin's side, dark brush of her tail flicking her shoulder as she went. She didn't go far, but stood just beyond Koukouy's perch, ears up and gaze trained on the horizon. Her twin was definitely the more observant of the pair, but Erasme wasn't exactly a dullard herself. Though it was certainly true, too, that Erasme enjoyed giving her sister reasons to show off that uncanny perception...even if they weren't entirely on purpose.
The lioness' muzzle wrinkled in distaste. "No, didn't have any. We should find something, though." Their parents were good at keeping them occupied; another reason she missed being under her father's paws. Without him, they were just lazing around the pride, doing nothing and - gods forbid - getting bored. And that wouldn't do! Not in the least because Erasme didn't want Damien thinking that his daughters weren't capable of occupying themselves, but also because any perceived idleness meant that someone older could step in, and "help" them toward some chore or another. She might miss taking Dad's lead, but that didn't mean Erasme wanted to be ordered around like an errant cub.
And that was all it took to get the darker twin thinking. "You wanna show Papa we don't need him watching?" Erasme's voice was just a bit hesitant - but her eyes, glancing over at her sister, gleamed with mischief. "Let's go hunting! We'll bring back a kill or two, that'll show him we're fine on our own." The older lionesses went out in hunting duos often enough, didn't they? And the pair of them were young and strong, trained by one of the best soldiers the Likno had to offer. This was a no-brainer! ...As long as Koukouy thought so, too.
