Astronomy Try as she might, Katya could never get in the swing of this class, and it didn't help it was held so late at night that she was constantly fighting simply to stay conscious during it. As other classes carried more importance in her mind, she didn't prepare as well for her Astronomy OWL as she might have liked, and her scores reflected this. ~A

Charms This was 'practical magic' so far as Katya was concerned, the sort of magic done all the time. As such, she worked to make sure she was well-grounded in her skill set, as this would carry her through other classes she took at Hogwarts. ~O

Defense Against the Dark Arts This was a class Katya really struggled with, owing to the violent nature of the subject matter. Personal experiences gave her more than sufficient reason to work hard in class, but she really lacked a talent for it. While she did well on the written part of the exam, the practical exam didn't go so well for her. Whatever strength of will the girl managed to muster crumpled when she faced the boggart again. In the end, she barely managed a passing grade because of her poor performance. ~A

Herbology Despite being rather scared of her teacher, Katya actually did well in Herbology class, playing close attention and learning how to take care of the plants in the greenhouse. Her hard work and conscientious study allowed her to earn a respectable grade on her OWL. ~EE

History of Magic Katya found the subject of magical history an interesting one, as she liked to know how things came to be, and enjoyed a good story. She put in a fair bit of effort memorizing names and dates in order to get a respectable grade for her OWL. ~EE

Potions For Katya, Potions class was rather like a Cooking class, and as she was a natural whiz in the kitchen, it was no surprise she did well. The written exam was a simple matter of keeping straight the various recipes in her head, and the practical exam was where she really shined. ~O

Transfigurations Katya had a good grasp on mathematics, and as Transfigurations used algebraic formulae as part and parcel of the work this allowed her to get through the class rather well. While she did well on the written exam, when it came down to trying to Vanish the kitten, soft-hearted Katya just couldn't bring herself to do it. Still, she managed to put up a good grade despite this final lapse. ~EE



Alchemy As Alchemy was basically an advanced Charms, Potions and Transfigurations class, this class was more work than Katya bargained for, and involved more time and effort than she'd expected when it came to preparing for her OWLs. Still, she worked hard to do well on the exam, and managed a solid grade to show for her efforts. ~EE

Arithmancy As mentioned previously, Katya has a good head for numbers, and Arithmancy was right up her alley. Running the calculations to solve the problems for this OWL was a breeze for her. ~O

Art Katya loved Art class, adored Professor Hawthorne, and being Captain of the Art Club; all of which gave her much incentive to put up good marks in her Art OWL. She made a concerted effort to study the subject of art history and the mechanics of art technique, so she could demonstrate a command of the subject. ~O

Healing Arts This was a class Katya felt important to have a good grasp of in her future endeavours, and so she worked quite hard to do well in class and to prepare for her exams. ~EE

Mythology While it was an interesting class for Katya, it wasn't one she put a lot of her efforts into studying for when it came down to preparing for her OWLs. ~A

Charms This was 'bread and butter' magic for Katya, as so many of her other classes were based upon her ability to cast Charms. Being primarily a practical examination of her ability to cast was not daunting at all, as Katya was rather gifted at them. -EE

Defense Against the Dark Arts Katya's contentious issues with this subject matter have been well-documented, and she might have allowed her preparations for this NEWT to slide a little had she not seen what was required to get a job at St. Mungo's. Deciding she needed to just deal with her misgivings, she worked harder in Dueling Club, asked Madam Cohen for help, and used her Hogsmeade forays to meet up with a tutor -- her sister, who's an Auror. When it came time for her NEWT, she did a nice job on the written exam, and handled blocking spells quite well, even if she still had issues with shooting spells at people. The boggart still had her number, though, which caused her results to suffer as a result. Still, she managed to barely scrape together a grade she could be pleased with. -EE

Herbology Despite being a bit unnerved by her long-time Herbology teacher, Katya worked hard to do well in his class, as the knowledge of Herbology dovetailed neatly with Potions. She studied hard for this NEWT, and poured over her notes on the subject in preparation, and managed to get a grade she could be happy with. -EE

Potions While Katya wanted to be a Healer, she wanted to be sure she could have her original plan of being a Potioneer there as a fallback option. Thankfully, she was a deft hand at Potions, and always had been, as, for her, assembling a Draught of Peace or a Draught of the Living Death was as simple as putting together a tray of brownies. -O

Transfigurations Being good at math was a boon for Katya in this class, as she was able to tackle this difficult class with more of an ease than she might otherwise. Self-Transfiguration was something which required a fair bit of nerve on her part, though it helped her when she selected a Kneazle to partially Transfigure her lower extremities into for that part of the NEWT. As a result, she managed a nice grade for her efforts. -EE



Alchemy This was a tough class, as this was an Advanced Potions, Charms, and Transfigurations class, all rolled into one, with a healthy dollop of Philosophy and History thrown into the balance. As such, it required for her to spend inordinate amount of time and effort for her to study, but she felt she needed it to further her career plans. Katya managed to put in a solid performance on the practical exam, and secured a nice grade. -EE

Arithmancy This was an easy class for a girl who had a 'head for numbers' and a good memory. Still while she put in some study time on the subject, other, rather more important, classes required that she put the time and effort in elsewhere. Still, she managed to not be too disappointed in getting what she got for her work. -EE

Art There was no excuse for Katya to not do well at her Art NEWT, as she was the out-going Captain of the Art Club, and she adored Professor Hawthorne. As such she put a considerable amount of effort into studying her Art history, the lives of the artists they studied and the styles they employed. At the end, she turned in a final art project which she poured her heart and soul into. -O

Healing Arts Having decided late that she wanted to go into Healing with a concentration in Potions, Katya worked hard to get a good grade for this NEWT. One thing which helped her was that she had a good memory, and the practical exam demonstrated she had a natural empathy for helping patients out. -O
