His mother was out with some of his sisters, but that hardly made a dent in their family den's population. Having eight other siblings was such a hassle, especially when a majority of them were loud and obnoxious. Kabili could hardly get a peaceful night of sleep, and today was one of those days where he woke up tired and grumpy. The young cub rubbed at his eye, trying to drive the feeling of exhaustion away.
"Where did mom go again?" he groggily asked one of his brothers, who mumbled something about a trip they were all expected to go on.
...Great.
Kabili's ears flattened against the back of his head, and the pale cub decided then that it was better to slip away now and try to find some other cubs to play with before his mother came back from her trip. Knowing his luck, he would be next, and he was too tired to learn anything.
Generally, Kabili was an easy going cub. A bit of a cry baby, sure, but not nearly as troublesome as some of his siblings. He was likely a blessing in such a large and rambunctious family, but it also meant that when he slipped away it was more difficult to notice. His voice would not be missed, since he rarely spoke up at all. Hunkering low to the ground, the small cub crawled his way out of the den and towards freedom without his father noticing.
Fresh morning air greeted him, and that was enough to finish waking him up. Smiling, the cub trotted down a familiar path away from the chaos of his family, but recognizable enough that he'd never get lost on the trail.
