User ImageIt was night...mostly. Jahim glared up at the sky as once again it was filled with flashes of light, illuminating the area around her as if it were day without the sun. She wasn't sure what was going on but there was no increase of heat, no rumbling, nothing that would alert her to potential danger coming her way. As of now it was just an annoyance and a bit disturbing, but she was trying her best to ignore it.

The flashes subsided and her eyes took a moment to adjust to the darkness. It was strange being out of the desert, even if the group she was moving with had only just traded sand for dirt. Home wasn't far and she could still turn back if she wanted, but the young lioness was set on this expedition. She wanted to rise in the ranks and it seemed a good way to do so as long as she could impress the proper lions and prove that she was worthy of a promotion.

A soft noise caught Jahim's attention in the darkness and she paused, turning to try to spot whatever it was that had made the sound. Perhaps a hare or a meerkat, judging by the size and the scurrying sound. It would make a nice snack if she could find it, but with a hiss she was once again blinded by the flashing in the sky starting back up.

Bursts of light forced the striped lion to close his eyes and shake his head a bit, stopping where he had been creeping up on a quiet prey animal. In a moment the flashes were gone and only the starlight lit the moon-less sky above. Whatever was happening in the realm of Gods it certainly couldn't be anything good with how violent the sky had been as of late, especially at night when it should have been a calming dark that allowed those that prowled the darkest parts of the night to hide or others to sleep. It was appearing more and more likely that the male would be slipping his way into the deep and dark parts of the jungle even if he had to do so without his beloved brother.

Moving silently in the time between the flashes, only a flash of the white his pelt bore could be seen as he slipped from hiding spot to hiding spot along the barest edges of the jungle he'd come to live so near. Soon to be living in if he had his way. Kneph was hungry and there was certainly no chance that he was going to find his missing older brother, it had been far too long for hope that Spiros was still nearby, maybe with everything changing he had gotten lost or something. Sighing out his irritation at being all alone once again, the lion crouched low to set his sights on a monkey that had been foolish enough to sleep low on a tree.

Just as he was about to pounce and climb up to the low limb, more than capable of swiping it from it's slumber, flashes of light caught him off guard once more and it was as if the sun had risen once more, blinding his light sensitive eyes. Claws raked momentarily at the bark on the tree, not a loud sound but just loud enough to rouse what would have been his meal and Kneph mentally cursed himself as he narrowed both of his blue eyes so that he could look around and make certain that there was nothing just as dangerous lurking as he was. Freezing in place, eyes had caught sight of nothing but the color of blood, Kneph stood stone still and watched her as she reacted to the flashing brightness just as he had.

A lioness the color of blood and sky... a large lioness no less. He watched her carefully as she moved, not certain what she was doing in the area but not fully afraid as they were both being inconvenienced by the same anomaly in the sky and that meant if he could use it to his advantage he would be well off. Not to mention he'd gotten to know the area rather well over the past few weeks being stuck there and only there and Kneph was certain he could out maneuver her if he had to.

With a roll of his shoulders, as if bucking up his own courage, the monochromatic lion took a step in her direction and watched her carefully.

Thanks to the shifting of the lights in the sky, Jahim was initially oblivious to her observer. She stood out like a sore paw in the light like this, red among browns and greens, but she didn't pay it much mind. It wasn't until she lost her mark on whatever she was hunting that she realized something was watching her which made the fur along her spine rise in defiance. Turning slowly, her nearly white eyes scanned the area for any sight of someone else. Just as she did the world was plunged into darkness once more and she was left blind in the dark for a few moments.

"Whose there?" she called out, sniffing the air in place of being able to see. She couldn't smell anything but a good hunter would be sure to position themselves down wind of their prey. She wasn't terribly concerned about possibly getting into a fight - she was confident in her own abilities - but if she was being encircled by the Nergui she'd rather flee than fight. Even she knew that one Firekin alone does not an army make.

Silence hung in the air as her answer for far longer than he had meant it to, paused by her immediate response and how she was willing to call out any that might be about in the area. Must be the size, but it could also have been that she was just extremely capable, which meant he would be remiss to get in any sort of altercation with the large red lioness. Not that he'd any intentions to do so.

"Another hunter, though one more used to these surroundings it would seem." Kneph responded in an off beat tone, one that marked him as no threat to her physical being. He could have been if he wanted to, for he had the clear upper hand, but it was brash to leap into action so readily and even his block headed brand of judgmental superiority didn't have him believing for one second that he might overpower the lioness. Kneph wasn't weak or small but he wasn't going to get himself torn to shreds over a rogue lioness he didn't know. "What brings you so far out of your element on a night with such explosive displays?"

Stepping closer once more, the striped lion tilted his head and made certain that he was in her full view, if for no other reason than to mark that he very clearly wasn't hunting... her. Kneph was still cursing the lights for the lost meal from moments ago enough.

The voice came from the brush and Jahim's ears turned to tune in directly to it, her eyes following a fraction of a second later. It was hard to focus given the shadows being tossed, but soon a figure emerged from the depths of the darkness and she could make out his shape. His black and white markings certainly lent themselves to hunting here rather than the desert.

"My pride and I are on a mission," she said, deciding not to divulge too much information in case this lion was Nergui. "We're visiting the Mwezi'Johari on a diplomatic mission." It wasn't terribly untrue, but she had left out the fact that the journey before this one had been the diplomatic venture and this was a recon mission.

"And you? You seem comfortable in this area...are you from here?"
