Location:
Old Pirate Pride Territory (Maestros)

Current Situation:
Tethys's warband have had their curiosity piqued by the sudden disappearance of the allied collective they had been marching alongside. It seems that this Collective have scrambled due to some sort of unexplained alert and have quick marched in this direction. The Warbands have currently lost the tracks of the Collective but they have now stumbled upon lands that should be familiar to those in Tethys's band who were with him from the very beginning.

Rather than attempt to relocate the Collective, Tethys has decided that they arrived here for a reason and the band should spread out in an attempt to find clues.

This is not a hunt for resources, this is a hunt for information!

Restrictions:
  • For the purposes of this RP, try not to assume what may have happened to the pirate pride directly. This is due to the possibility that someone may wish to reform them some day!
  • No Phantoms will be found during this ORP, they have been in the area, but they aren't anymore, so don't attempt to claim your lion has seen a real one. Hallucination/Imaginary is fine though so long that it's clear!
  • If accidents happen, it won't be because the group have been attacked (yet), in the Pirate lands it's simply going to be just that... Sharp edges/tripping/etc. You can get yourself injured if you like, but the violence won't happen here...
  • Collective might show up, I'm undecided on this, but for now assume they won't.

Sequel Info:
There will be a follow-up ORP after this in the form of a sequel as they move into the next area of land (Mermaids). This sequel RP will contain violence, so pace your lions so they don't get tired!

Following their adventure into the Mermaid lands, this set of RPs will then reach its conclusion in the Bahari'mtoto's Lands before the warbands can rest for a short moment.

Important Notes:
Anyone with a former pirate may absolutely participate, in fact everyone is more than welcome. The only restrictions are on who can win the cub. ^_^
PostPosted: Wed Jun 14, 2017 7:51 am
Participation Rules:
Anyone may participate in this ORP but only those who qualify will be able to win the cub.

To qualify you must:
  1. Have signed up to Tethys's plot in his plot thread.
  2. Must have a minimum of three completed posts in this ORP.
  3. Must use the characters you offered in the plot thread, not a random SoA!
  4. Must follow the silly game rules to ensure fairness to everyone when it comes to discoveries.
  5. Those who sign up after this ORP has opened will not be eligible to win this particular cub. This is to keep things fair for those who have been here since the beginning.

To 'play', roll a random number between 1 - 20 (or a 20 sided dice) and check the outcome below:
  • 1-5 = A strange series of smells, almost like rotting flesh. You can't really identify it's exact source.
  • 6-10 = You find a trail of dried blood. It seems to continue for a short while, then abruptly stops.
  • 10-15 = You find the fallen body of a lion, it has been brutally mauled. It may have died inside the caves, but it seems to have been disposed of outside of them.
  • 16-19 = You find an abandoned ceremonial site. The fallen bodies (now bones) of those who have died are piled neatly in the middle. Dried blood now seems to stain the floor beneath your paws, but the smell seems to have dissipated...
  • Natural 20 = You find a recent ceremonial site, crudely constructed. It's in the darkest region of the caves and under foot, there's something akin to soft slime or mulch. Sniffing at it will reveal it to be blood...but how long has it been there and where's the body?

The ORP will run for as long as I need it to (until it has a natural conclusion), but for the sake of ease, the 'closing date' for the cub will be 30th June 2017. This will mean I have time to give away his sister in the next one.

The Participation Prize!
This little guy will be up for grabs as a thank you to those who signed up to participate in Tet's adventures!

"I thought you said you knew where they were," Lawsonia remarked as he gazed out across the wide, and open expanse of the cove. Overall, the place was still deserted to this day and it seemed that even in their absence, few had wandered through these parts.

"I knew what direction they went, I didn't say I knew exactly where they went," Tethys replied with a small snort. It was at this point that he strode forward and took a moment of his own to regard what lay in the cove. To say he was disappointed by the lack of activity was an understatement, but then again the last time that he had been there as a budding Reaver...he and Ziya hadn't found any life here either. On the contrary, they had found nothing of note save for some jewels and a rather rough night.

To this day he had no idea what had happened here and it was still something of considerable interest to him. It was almost as if the Pirates that had once been Stormborn rivals had simply up and left without even a murmur.

"So..." Lawsonia prompted.

"I've been here before, the last time we were here we didn't find anything but we did find something nearby," the Captain supplied the black lion with the beginnings of a tale and then promptly shook his head. "However we didn't look into this territory in any depth, we were attacked during the night and based on our casualties it was imperative we got home."

"Likelihood of that happening again...?"

"Slim, but not impossible," Tethys replied and cleared his throat. "So long as everyone remembers to fight in the light we should be fine, however it is in our best interests to do some in depth scouting of these parts. We might not have had time to look before, but if the Collective headed this way then it means there is something here," he pointed out and motioned towards the almost skull like caves. "There's networks all over this cove, just like the other land,"
he continued.

"What exactly are you hoping we'll find here?" The scout asked curiously and raised a brow of his own. Tethys had been somewhat sparse on the details to anyone who was not a Captain, thus quite a few of them weren't entirely sure what they were facing. There had been murmurings from the original warband though, and tales of what had attacked them so long ago, so there was at least some idea of their foe.

"Tracks," The captain replied bluntly and grimaced. "I wouldn't wish the rest on anyone," he confessed, though based on the proximity of this territory to the mermaids, and the fact it possessed networks of caves... there was a distinct possibility that the newest allies of his own personal warband might very well find something they wished they hadn't...

The direction was all to familiar and the sands even more so. Iloziya almost sighed when he felt the way the sands rolled between his toes - it was warm and would have been inviting if there were any signs of life. "Still nothing." He muttered to himself as he recalled the last time he, Tethys and a warband had come here to seek out answers as to what happened to their previous foes. Even now the lands looked as though the members had picked up and walked off, this wasn't something he'd have imagined would have actually happened, especially the way some of the others described these pirates.

"I'm going to do some looking around." He remarked to Tethys casually. Up until this decision was made he'd had himself situated near the big ol' white lion. If he had been willing to be honest with anyone besides Tethys and his mate, Naima, then some might have seen the small amount of nerves appearing in small twitches as he stood there. It was after a few moments of these twitches that he decided he needed to be productive.

During their previous encounter with these lands they'd found some caves. These were the first thing he wanted crossed off his to do list. The caves meant it'd be dark within and darkness meant they'd have a certain disadvantage as the day progressed into night. Iloziya wanted to get what they could and perhaps begin to continue following the Collective, which was the prime objective to begin with.

"Well that wasn't what I expected."

The words had left his mouth before he could stop them. Entering the small network of caves hadn't taken the Reaver very long. He already knew the path and had anticipated that it hadn't changed very much. There wasn't anything to exciting, or at least not exciting enough to stop him from his goal being reached and thus he dove right into things. There was a reward at the end of it all and as he moved in on the cave network he discovered a ceremonial site. He stared at the site and his stomach flopped a little. The bones that were piled up so neatly and carefully had appeared to come from various age groups. Iloziya thought back to the evening that they had been attacked.

No. The site was to old for the bones piled there to be originating from that evening. He wondered briefly what had happened to the individuals here as he couldn't recall himself. Another day, another worry. The worry faded quickly as he escorted himself from that particular cave to continue looking about.

User Image Violet eyes scanned the foliage, brows knit. It was practically as her father had described it... It was unsettling. "To think, my father came here when he was new to Reaving, too.." Svana cleared her throat, stepping carefully on the sand. It was eerie, to say the least. She wasn't sure she liked it here at all. Her nose wrinkled, but not from the disgust at being where filthy pirates had been. "What's that smell?"

User Image Close behind Svana was Valkyrie, her closest companion. The white lioness, with fewer markings than even her dearest friend's own white pelt contained, pressed close. The skin around the scar on her thigh twitched, as did her ears. "It smells like death... Fitting for pirates, isn't it?" Did they roll in death? If she ever found a loud-and-proud pirate, she'd have to beat them into submission and find out.

OOC:
Svana's adult cert has the wrong owner on it, I'm well aware - Her cub/adol certs have the right owner, though xD

If Zili had known what they would come across perhaps he would have chosen to return home. Or maybe, just maybe it would have made him more determined to go - to protect Xochipepe though she was likely more than capable at doing that than he ever could. Still, needed or not, as he stared down at the mauled and very dead lion lying at his feet, he tried desperately to think of a way to shield her from such things. A hopeless act, of course, considering her line of work and all, but still...

He felt nauseated then, flashbacks to a time not so long ago when he had seen such massacre for the first time. It had changed him. How could it not? Stripped away some innocence from him that he still mourned and probably always would.

And now it would be stolen from her, too.

The black lion swallowed back the sudden urge to empty the contents of his stomach and stumbled back, his hindquarters bumping against Xochi's shoulders as she moved up behind him.

"What's---"

"Stop!" his voice sounded panicked as he turned to block her view, "there's nothing to see. Just--wait--don't!"

But, as with anyone told not to look at something, Xochipepe stepped eagerly around him and froze a moment later when she saw what he had been trying to shield her from. Death. They had all smelt it, of course. The rancid stench lingering unmistakably across the land. But this...this was not just death. It was savage. Brutal. The lioness tried not to look fazed by it,
though Zili noted the tension in her shoulders and the way her claws curved into the ground beneath her. She worked her jaw for a moment then their eyes met and Zili felt a crush of grief to see the look in them.

"Who would do this?"

Zili knew but he could not find the words to speak. He simply shook his head and backed off. Xochipepe, quietly, moved with him - though her eyes were back on the corpse and seemed unwilling to leave it.

The ex-first mate to the Pirate King felt as home as he walked the lands of his old pride. Recalling all of the old nooks and crannies that he used to go to with a clear mind. He had heard that the white lion leading this expedition was going to his old home and he had jumped on the opportunity to once again walk the lands since the last time he had met former pirates here. Though as Cythraul’s paw pads touched the sands he felt an unwilling shiver rise up and shudder through him. He could feel Branderyn’s talons dig in as she too felt unsettled here within their former home and he bristled with anger. This was an insult that this scourge had come here and made use of the former’s pirates homes.

“‘Ow dare they come ‘ere and defile me ole ‘ome.” The male snarled, as he passed Tethys. His two children flanking him as he passed along. “I will be checkin’ on me old caves.” As he passed, he would walk the old pathways and check in old homes. Especially his old den, not that anything was left in there he had long buried that somewhere else that he was sure no one else would find.

As they walked along Cythraul checked several caves. A few of them had blood within them or looked heavily disturbed, some even with very very little treasure within, or at least what pirates would have considered treasure that they kept. Though the treasure cove was where most of the former pirates would have kept the hoards they gained but that was more than likely already picked clean and he didn’t need to see the wealth gone.

It was Solfrid who called to her father from a cave and the look on her face was enough for him. “It looks like thar were a body ‘ere at one point.” The golden lioness sniffed the brown slime carefully. “Where it be, I ‘aven’t da slightest clue.” Her silvered eyes looking to her father and then at Branderyn. “Maybe you can be lookin’?” She asked.

“I can look of course. I’d rather stay close by but I will go take off to just see, maybe report to Tethys what I have found?” The raven asked, mostly posing the question to Cythraul.

Agnar, who was entering the cave to look at the strange ceremonial site that was placed in the cave. One thing he noticed what that is was actually pretty recently constructed and almost as if they had noticed that someone was coming and abandoned it. Although the blood had coagulated and was quite old, this… this was new. “I dun think we be alone father.” His tail twitching as the fur started to rise. “I think we should be lettin’ the others know about dis place.”

It was then that Branderyn took off from the back of the ex-first mate’s back. Best to look for the other members of the collective. Especially Tethys.

The lioness had been brought up to speed on what it was they were addressing today. It seemed each day brought them closer to discerning what the outcome of their endeavors would be, but in most cases they ended up like this. The environment they stepped into was passive though – typically in a high strung place the feeling would radiate. Instead it felt like they had missed something by an inch.

It was the smell that spoke to her the most. There was a rank smell that could easily be classed as ‘death’ itself making a visit to the lands. She couldn’t spy an origin of the stench, but did spy Sabia making the same wrinkled appearance as the scent seemed to wriggle its way into her nostrils.

“It’s foul, isn’t it.” Zjarri responded to the look on Sabias face knowing that her own look likely matched. There was no way she could remove the wrinkled look from her face. The blue lioness didn’t back away from the area though and instead chose to go deeper, her right hand lioness by her side.

The crimson lioness traveling with her brighter, gradient Captain hadn’t been far behind her leader in the advancement of entering the pirate’s old pridal lands. Her familiarity with pirates both started and stopped with knowing Cythraul, Cy hadn’t been open about his old home, but Sabia also hadn’t asked to deeply. The history wouldn’t have done her any good to know then, but now she had regretted not asking more.

Wow. Her mind was a whir as she first began to smell the stench that her Captain spoke of. “It’s awful.” She said as she tried to remove the wrinkle of disgust from her nose. It seemed there was no stopping it, but she did manage to remove the disgust from her voice a small amount. The smell of death wasn’t certainly new to her, but this volume of it was much more concentrated than she had experienced.

“Where do you think it’s coming from?” She queried the blue lioness lightly. Of course she likely wouldn’t know the answer, but a few things did stick out – like a body found and a blood trail discovered by Bjorn. Perhaps the glutton would be able to be useful yet.

Bjorn had been following his daughter in a pursuit to demonstrate the changes he'd made to his life. Once the prides drunk he has made changes for the better with some (painful) help from his newest companion in life - Dione.

He wasn't far behind the pair of lionesses when he noticed the way their heads seemed to snap around to smell the air. His nose wrinkled along with theirs and his blue eyes cast downward towards a red tinged ground. The blood was dried and went on for some time. Then surely as he began to follow it, it stopped. "Hm."

"Look at this." He called the pair of lionesses over, though they had already been prepared to follow him when his eyes hit the ground. His body language gave away that he had found something a might peculiar.

They were already beginning to see that what they fought was far from kind - there had been several who had questioned him, and many more who had begun to doubt him, particularly when they had spent so much time looking at plants. However their patience had now been rewarded in a rather warped and morbid way. They had finally been exposed to the enemy and while they couldn't see it, it seemed that Tethys's hunch had been right and the once bustling cove had been utilised for a much more grim purpose...

Even from his vantage point he could see his band and his allies as they wandered back and forth, exploring various parts of the jungle (yet to bring any significant results), and others closer to the network of caves that seem to have born fruit. There had been quite a shift in demeanour in such a small period of time, but Tethys could now see why his father might have marched so swiftly south. Had all of these things been here, and if so, for how long?

...it was in moments like these that the captain wished he had had the opportunity to explore more before the attack.

"Tethys," Lawsonia murmured in warning as the he spotted the bird. Branderyn had been a very recent addition in terms of allegiances, he'd come with the ex pirate who had eventually found his way to the Stormborn. Nonetheless, the Scout didn't find it surprising that the former pirate had already found something, even if the black lion dreaded what it might be.

"Hm?" The white lion cast his gaze upwards towards the approaching avian and raised a brow. He hadn't expected any significant results so quickly, but then again, the definition of 'significant' hadn't really been given to any of them so this could potentially be anything. "Is something the matter?" he called out to Branderyn as he drew within earshot.

Lawsonia took the opportunity to step to one side for the time being, though he remained close. Something about this didn't sit right with him, he just couldn't quite put his paw on what that was just yet...

The four lions had been close proximity to one another - three females and a male. Two had been reasonably somber but the purer of the two were much too chirpy, one would surmise that perhaps they were young, and by extension...a touch naive. It was with great interest that all four of these individuals were observed. To say that there arrival had been unexpected would have been a lie; he knew better than to assume his own kind weren't adequately tracked, but the timing, now that really was something worth pondering.

Thus, it was with a bemused rumble of laughter that the lion finally spoke.

Formless and invisible, it was not immediately clear as to where he actually resided, but his voice carried across the area between all four of these young lions with such clarity that his words wouldn't be mistaken... And neither would their context.

"The living do not come here willingly," his voice sang. "Or perhaps we should say that the worthy do," there was a brief pause and a weighted sigh, though a smart lion would have noted by the manner in which it seemed to 'echo', that this entity was deliberately placed in a region where he didn't intend to be found. "The unworthy are given the opportunity to leave but they so very rarely do."

"Notions such as heroism, courage, selflessnes... They are all very common in this world of yours, are they not?"

Another pause.

"Much too common, in fact."

And yet another pause.

"Two of you would be wise to turn heel and preserve your hides, one of you is so close to Divinity that they should be considered blessed... The other is simply ordinary," he stated. It wasn't intended as an insult and the tone of the unseen being should have at least conveyed that, though only one of the four might understand who it applied to.
"The newborn souls however - now they are welcome to stay. We have a use for those."

The voice drifted into silence, leaving the four to their own devices once more. However it would be abundantly clear that they were most certainly not alone...

Svana snarled, ears flattening back to her skull as she looked around. "Who's there?!" What was the voice talking about, newborn souls? Divinity? For a moment, her mind flashed to her family line. It was now common enough knowledge in the family that her paternal grandfather was a god. Was that it, perhaps? "Show yourself!" Anger flashed in Svana's eyes as she continued to look around, trying to find who had spoken. It was all shadow, though. Nothing was easily seen.

Her first instinct was to press closer into Svana, but it was soon and quickly overridden by her pridal rearing. Delicate though she could look and act, Valkyrie could also live up to her name. Her own face took on a snarl as she turned, pressing instead of her left side into Svana, her right, so that she could look in one direction and Svana the other. "They're trying to intimidate us. It's probably just one... Whatever it is." As she blinked against the sun, she had a momentary flash of red eyes in darkness. There was nothing more - Just red in the shadows. Silently, she cursed her seer powers. They were absolutely useless when she needed them most.

Branderyn flew forward as fast as she could towards the Captain that Cythraul, Solfrid, and Agnar has suggested she go to. It was very unsettling what it was that the small crew had found and it needed the attention of Captain Tethys. "Tethys." As she flapped her wings staying in front of the males. "My Captain seeks your audience. It seems we have found a recent ceremonial site in one of our former dens. There's some old blood in there but no body. Very unsettling." She flew just a little bit away, trying to make the males hurry and head towards her crew.

The elder dark male felt unsettled as he looked within the den a little more. Careful not to possibly damage anything of any importance. He wanted this as undisturbed as possible so that others could investigate it and learn what they needed to. Although he bristled and wanted to destroy the damn thing he held back. No need.

Both the children posted themselves outside of the cave acting as strong body guards. Agnar looking far more terrifying with a more stormy look on his face had teeth bared in case any unfriendly looking others came by. Solfrid just scowled but looked pretty unwelcoming. Were they attacked Cythraul could count on his children to be able to be able to fight well. Even at a young age they had been tough. Then put him with them and they could be a rather terrifying force to be reckoned with.

"I feel like we be gettin' eyes on us." Solfrid called back in a low voice to her father. Knowing the way she said it would reach his ears. Then again that was just how the entire area had felt when they had gotten there. That unease seemed to get heavier and heavier with each passing moment.

The voice floated to them from someplace unknown, in the depths of cloaking shadow that had taken on a new edge. Danger. Zili knew it with all of his being. Death awaited them in that darkness. And whilst the two white females might have snarled in defiance and Xochipepe merely blinked in confusion, the black male felt a coursing dread that froze him to the spot.

"We should leave," Zili replied, voice sounding strained.

But Xochipepe was already stepping around the mauled corpse, head tilted as if it would somehow help her peer into the darkness.

"Xochi--"

"Shh!" she silenced him, clearly straining her ears to listen for any sounds, "how will we pinpoint him with you talking? Quiet a moment."

But didn't she understand? They shouldn't be finding him, they should be getting the hell out of there! He growled and moved after her, intent on dragging her back by the scruff of her neck if need be. But then she was bristling and turning her gaze on him, eyes bright with fury.

"He's the one who did all of this."

Not just him, Zili thought with a pang of terror.

"We can't just let him get away with it." Xochipepe turned her head towards the two pale lionesses then, trying to catch their gaze, "we're together in this, right?"
