The Story

This cub that you'll be trying for has a little bit of history to her family. Her mother, Nehanda, was born with a defect of the lungs, leaving her weak and small. She survived thanks to the attentive care of her mother, but was always much less active and not as strong as the rest of the females. She pulled her weight in any way she could and was a very kind soul even though she lived with the worry of not being attractive enough due to her weaker health to draw the eye of any of the males in the pride. She was proven wrong by an Inselelo named Jasiri who sired a litter for her before he was defeated in a challenge. That pregnancy was tough and Nehanda lost two little girls in childbirth, both of them stillborn. She did manage to bring two healthy girls and one healthy boy into the world, but for a very long time she questioned why the boy had survived and the girls had not. After coming to terms with her loss, she moved on and raised all three as best as she could.

Once again Nehanda found herself drawn to the new Inselelo, Kuhasa, and once again she found herself carrying cubs. This pregnancy seemed off the whole time, though. Something wasn't right. When the time came to depart the pride to have her cubs, Nehanda suffered through the birth but passed away shortly thereafter, unaware she had once again lost half her litter. Only two girls out of four survived and they were left in the care of the two lionesses that had come along to assist Nehanda.

The two sisters are biologically motherless, but the pride will raise them as one. There are other nursing mothers that can tend to them and there are other cubs to play with, and there are older siblings who will take care of them and tell them of their mother.

The Cub

User Image

There are a few rules that come with this cub, as noted below.

1. Her name must be in Zulu and it must be something positive or resilient. Her sister's name means 'has come up victorious in what was a hopeless, dreadful, precarious situation', for example.
2. She must stay in the Bonelands until adolescence.
3. If you wish you can have her be born ill as her mother was, but it's not mandatory.
4. Please use the form below to enter.

Name: (must be Zulu)
Meaning: (must be positive/resilient)
Personality:
How does she react to growing up without a biological 'mother'?

Name: Melokuhle
Meaning: One who represents good things.
Personality: Melokuhle is a bit rough around the edges. Highly competitive and sometime brash in the way she talks, she'll get in your face if you say something she doesn't like and isn't afraid to be critical towards someone's actions. This, obviously, gets her into a few scrapes, but she's a tough one and can usually stand her ground. She's really not a mean person though. She's got a soft spot towards her sister, just about the only person she'll really show her softer side to, and enjoys a good game or joke.
Melo is also perhaps not the cleanest lioness around. She would much rather roll around in dirt and have mud dripping from her fur than spend what she views as "wasted time" cleaning over and over again. What's the point if she's just going to get dirty again later? As an adult, she'll usually have to be persuaded into bathing. As a cub? Well, the other lionesses are going to have to get good at chasing her down.
As a side note, knowing it was her mothers health that failed her, Melokuhle will always hold a fear that it could eventually pass on to either her, her sister or any cubs she might have.
How does she react to growing up without a biological 'mother'? Through cubhood and adolescence, I imagine her being rather confused and angry over it. While she knows what happened, and she's grateful to her pridemates for raising her and her sister, she'll still get defensive when the topic comes up. There will be times where she will leave to be by herself, with her sister being the only person she'll really tolerate following her. Others run the risk of getting their heads bitten off for trying.
As she goes into adulthood, she'll eventually cool off and accept that what happened, happened, and there's no point in getting sad about it now. Instead, Melo will decide to experience as much of life as she can, seeing as her mother couldn't. She will start really trying to get close to others, in turn becoming much more approachable, and will sometimes go on little explorations around the pride lands. That being said, there will still be times where she'll just disappear for a few hours to be by herself, and it's usually best to leave her be in those cases.

Name: Okunqobayo
Meaning: The triumphant
Personality: More bold than her tiny frame should logically be able to be, Bayo charges into any situation she feels she should. Unfortunately, it's not usually a good idea. She resents that her lungs can't seem to handle anything she does, from running to simply walking fast. This dampens her fierce desire to be a strong huntress. Her greatest desire is to overcome her physical weakness, even though it'll leave her tiny and thin.
How does she react to growing up without a biological 'mother'? Boya feels sad, having never gotten to know her mother or even meet her. But at the same time, she doesn't feel alone - She has her many sisters, both litter and those through Kuhasa. There's also the orphan cubs brought into the pride by one of the Cinga, whom she feels a bit of a kinship with as well as something of a sadness, as they only have each other. She's also dimly aware, through snatched whispers, about why she has no mother, and secretly dreads the idea of herself having cubs. What would happen, after all, if she has cubs of her own and suffers for it? But at the same time, she wants to leave her genetic mark upon the pride. Even if she only leaves one cub, she will still seek, despite her dreads, to bear at least one litter, to show a form of triumph over the adversity of her birth.

Name: Jabulile
Meaning: "Be cheerful, be happy"
Personality: Adventurous and unintentionally mischievous, Jabulile just cannot sit still. Everyday leaves her eager to search out a new excitement and, due to her lack of reservations, she has no problem tailing after various members in the pride to find the thrill of the day. Contrary to her dear late mother, Jabulile's energy seems bottomless. She could often be seen dashing around the land or not so sneakily trailing after her daily target.
How does she react to growing up without a biological 'mother'? Jabulile does not necessarily feel sadness or anger towards her late mother. In fact, for a while, she had been fully convinced that she had multiple mothers and believed that it was completely and utterly normal. When she finally grew to realize that her biological mother had passed, enough time had passed to where there was not an emptiness but rather a curiosity. How could she miss someone that she didn't know she once had? Instead of mourning over a death long past, Jabulile launched into a full scale barrage of questions, interrogating anyone she could get her paws on about just how her mother lived or how she looked. Including her own sister originally, excitement and curiosity too large to remember that her litter mate couldn't possibly have the answers she is looking for.

Name: Sindisiwe
Meaning: Saved
Personality: Sindisiwe is quiet in her cub days, she rather sit back and watch other than to actually get involved in much of anything. While some might think she is a little slower really she just wants to be able to study and observe absolutely everything possible. As she grows older she will come out of her shell a little and find her own voice. Finally growing into a strong independent lioness. While she will always count on her fellow lionesses to lean on she much prefer know that she can handle any situation on her own.
How does she react to growing up without a biological 'mother'? When she is still very young Sindisiwe wont really realize she doesn't have a biological mother, or that she is different from any other cub in the pride. Why would she? She is well cared for and doesn't have a care in the world. It wont be until she hears two random lionesses whispering about the situation that she will realize her and her sister aren't being raised by a bio mom but instead another lioness who was nursing at the time and the other lioness around. It will make her angry at first, and feel like she has been lied to about everything in her life. It is then that she will start to come out of her shell more and find her voice. Although she will love all the lionesses that help raised her it is finding out that her mom died that makes Sindisiwe realize she wants to be an independent creature able to do anything for herself.

Name: Ntokozo
Meaning: Happiness or joy
Personality: Little Kozo is a curious and friendly type who loves to be involved with the greater workings of the pride. She doesn't really care how hard a job is, as long as she can be social with the lionesses she grew up to love. However, she can also be anxious. Even the slightest scratch can give her a reason to worry and she will fret about injury and illness too much.
How does she react to growing up without a biological 'mother'? Ntokozo didn't feel any different from the other cubs in the pride for a long time. The other cubs were cared for by multiple lionesses, so it didn't really strike her as unusual until she was old enough to understand more about families and mothers, and even after that, she was grateful to her mother for giving her the chance to live and vowed to never forget her. Her more troubling thoughts only started when she discovered that her mother was sickly and that she had lost siblings, too. Even though Ntokozo seems perfectly healthy, she is convinced that she is unusually fragile and that worry extends to her littermate sister. She tends to worry over the other lionesses too, in case one of her friends ends up sickly with cubs like her mother. In the future, she will be afraid to have cubs of her own.
