It was hot. It was really hot. Menkar knew the desert would be different from his jungle seaside home, but he had no idea the temperatures would change so much. He had been ready for hot, dusty, and dry, but what he hadn't expected was how cold the Firekin lands got at night. With no trees to protect them, the winds would whip over the sand and create such a chill he wondered how those native to these lands dealt with it. It was about midday and he was trying to find one of the watering holes, but with the constant change in temperature he had gotten a bit lost and disoriented. He hadn't had anything to drink for at least two days, and he knew that wasn't good. Finding a scrawny little tree, Menkar laid down in the bit of shade it provided to give his wobbly vision a few moments to correct itself.

For Soleil, it was just another day. Having been born here she was used to the flux in temperature. It helped that she had a large mate to snuggle up to at night, of course, but the change in temperatures rarely bothered her. She trotted through the sands on her way to the watering hole, a smile on her face. Her daughter Shula was by her side and having her children around always perked her spirits.
"So, have you had any big injuries to deal with yet?" she asked, knowing that her daughter had followed in her pawprints to become a medic. "Ever since the Nergui slipped away there's been less and less in terms of fighting." She didn't count the sparring that went on daily here, those scrapes and scratches healed just fine on their own.

Shula was glad to be out and with her mother again. It had been a while since they had talked and she was eager to learn anything new her mother could teach her. It was nice to walk beside her mother again, almost like an assistant, even though she was a full-fledged medic now.
Sighing a bit she replied, “Not really, or at least nothing that couldn’t be healed by resting for a bit. But you know some of the soldiers here. As soon as it stops hurting they think they’re good to go and then hurt themselves again. But those were all from soldiers sparring against each other. Otherwise I haven’t run into any fights between us and someone from the outside.” She didn’t count spars, as those were fights to determine if you would get in or not.
The sun was at it’s peak now, the hottest part of the day, and Shula was glad that she had such light fur, though it wasn’t very helpful at night. She looked around for a bit as they walked, making sure she couldn’t see anything out of the ordinary. However as they got closer to the watering hole, she happened to look at a tree and notice a shape underneath it.
She tried to squint her eyes a bit, trying to see if she could tell what was underneath it. It looked to be a lion, but from this distance she wasn’t quite sure. “Mother, there’s something underneath that tree over there.” She said, trying to get her mothers attention and pointing her paw in the direction of the tree.

"Mm...it's a blessing and a curse," Soleil said with a little hum. She was glad that there had been no big injuries as of late as she didn't like to see others get hurt, but at the same time the younger medics really did need to see all types of injuries so they could practice. Just learning about them through stories didn't help in the long run.
As Shula called her attention to a tree, Soleil paused and turned to squint in the same direction. There was a lump in the shadows - red and black from the look of it, so a Firekin - but it didn't appear to be moving. At all. Not even the flick of a tail to swat a bugs.
"Oh...let's go have a look," she said, her tone a bit worried as she changed direction to go investigate. Once they got closer she called out. "Hello? Are you okay?"
Menkar was passing in and out of consciousness. He had no idea a watering hole was just a short walk away. He was exhausted and sleep really did seem like the best option right now, but something was keeping him awake.
A voice made his ear flick. It sounded miles and miles away. Opening one pale eye, he spotted two shimmery lions walking towards him, distorted by the heat and by his overheated brain.
"Eh..." He tried to talk but his mouth was so dry his tongue stuck to the roof of his mouth.

"No, he doesn't," Soleil agreed. She lifted her head and gazed off in the direction of the small pool of water. It wasn't terribly far, but she knew to the lion on the ground it would feel like miles. Shula's offer made her shake her head - she didn't have anything to carry it back with either.
"We'll have to help him stand. If we support him on either side I think he can make it," she said as she motioned for Shula to stand beside the male. She leaned down to look at him. "We're going to help you get to the watering hole, okay?" she asked.
Menkar blinked as Soleil came directly into his line of vision. He nodded and struggled to get his paws under him. Water...it was close. It had to be close. That was all he wanted right now. He felt like he could drink the entire sea.
As he struggled to stand, Soleil moved to stand beside him on the other side, letting him use her as a crutch to push off of. Menkar bumped back and forth between the mother and daughter, but he finally got to his paws.
"Now lean against him, Shula," Soleil said over the male's back. "Take some of the weight off his paws as we walk."
