...is your friend, or so they say.

Two individuals, serving under an a*****e boss a mutual acquaintance, must now work together to make up for their failures or else. Can they manage to get along, or will they just drive each other to the grave?

Name: Schwartz
Bio: The problem with prodigies is that they need to be handled very, very carefully. Schwartz is one of the many such child geniuses whose guardians failed to do so. His father was something of a researcher in the field of magic and his mother was little more than a timid housewife and a slave to her husband's whims. Living in a remote location for his father's work, far from any town for the safety of any peasantry, Schwartz never had any friends to play with, and so he'd often spend time in his father's library reading and studying. With such dedication (willing or otherwise) he soon showed that he had a gift and his father was absolutely delighted. From that point on, his father became almost obsessed with seeing the limits of his son's power and mastery, constantly pushing him to go above and beyond. For an isolated child, Schwartz took this to mean he was special and had to follow the expectations of his father to be the most powerful warlock around, and that whatever he did was alright so long as he pushed the limits of his power. Once again, his mother, lacking the ability to say no to the men in her life, only helped to encourage the young lad. Schwartz had ultimately wiped his home and his parents off the face off the earth at the age of fourteen. He was barely past puberty and had all the magical knowledge and power and ego of tyrant. Perfect pickings for an evil mastermind to recruit and groom further.

Name: Charity
Bio: For someone with no combat training, no outstanding wealth or social influence, it is a wonder to many why the mastermind keeps her around. It is an even greater wonder that she is often assigned dangerous, if not outright deadly, tasks that others either cannot or refuse to take. When asked how she accomplishes what she does, Charity will go silent - or if the asker is persistant - start crying. As a result of this and her semi-frequent mental breakdowns, she has long since been written off as a madwoman and is avoided by most. Yet, if she were just a simple psychopath, why would she be kept around as she has been?
PostPosted: Tue Nov 04, 2014 12:33 am

The enemy of your enemy is your friend, or so they say. If that were the case, Schwartz must be a damn good friend, for Charity certainly wouldn't want him as an enemy. As much as she can't stand the arrogant cad, when it comes to his trade, he knows damn well what he's doing. He could fling those fireballs like no other, although she would never admit so out loud. If someone pissed him off, they simply didn't survive long enough to brag about it. The madwoman was convinced that he would want nothing to do with her, even despite the big man's orders, but would he take it out on her? Or would he use it as fuel for the fire against the boss later on? Now, the latter would be quite a sight - and if he could get his ego in check - she might actually peg Schwartz as the more dangerous of the two. Charity huffed out a heavy sigh, soon trying to shake such thoughts from her head. She was nervous enough about this unfortunate situation as it is. She didn't need to make things worse by thinking about his ruthlessness - which would only lead to her thinking about how likely it was that she would be a victim of it.

As of now, she was leaning on a wall near the exit of the master's lair, waiting for her partner before they must depart. Her red hood hung heavily over her face, showing little more than the lower half of her face and what curly black hair grew beyond it in length. She wore a loose, white frock and simple red slippers, her clothes simple but clearly made by skilled hands. She could have passed as someone of upper middle class, were they living in normal society, perhaps the daughter of a wealthy hunter - or maybe even an impoverished noble. But no, she was just the mastermind's pet madwoman, forced to accompany some arrogant fop and - quite probably - know a fate worse than death somewhere along the way.

Schwartz had a strict no partners policy. Usually when someone said that it was because of some past angst about losing their partner in some tragic event and blah blah blah. Schwartz didn't care for having partners simply because they had a tendency to get in the way. When he's throwing around massive spells to get the job done and kill whatever fool was trying to stop them in the most efficient way possible, he could rarely be arsed to try to avoid that one small person in comparison to a good chunk of countryside. And when he did inevitably kill the odd partner it would be on his head despite his constant protests that he shouldn't be working with others in the first place. It wasn't his fault he excelled in elimination jobs rather than preservation jobs. The boss was essentially handing a ball of destruction an escort mission. This time he got an extra taste of bile in the form of a crazy escort mission--I mean partner.

Schwartz walked the hall from their master's chamber with folded arms. From one arm hung his cane, which swung rhythmically in time with the clicking of his shoes against the stone floor. Partially obscured by the shadow the brim of his hat cast over his eyes was a very cross face about the whole scenario. At least if went too far off the loony bin it shouldn't be a chore to take her out. One note of insane laughter and he was done.

Charity glanced in the direction the footsteps and wood tapping was coming from, only to see her partner approach. Her lips formed a wry grin as she asked, "And thus, the demon approaches. Pray tell, chaotic one, be you ready to accompany the reluctant waif?" Her voice was somewhat raspy, but sweet - her spoken words barely more than a whisper, yet certainly loud enough to be heard. She didn't seem to be any more pleased than Schwartz with the given situation, but at least she was open to the idea of working with another. Even if he scared her witless, not that she would admit to it.

"Oh, so I'm a demon now, am I? It seems my reputation precedes me." Schwartz tipped his hat slightly to Charity, a gesture of mock chivalry, with a hollow smile. "So long as the reluctant waif doesn't get in the way, we shan't have any problems." Removing his cane from where it hung on his arm, he began to cockily spin it about one finger. "I can't be held responsible for your own stupidity after all."

"Nor she yours." Charity murmured quietly, maintaining a sweet smile despite her slight annoyance. With that, she stood upright and opened the door for them both, holding it open for Schwartz to leave first. She had decided that 'stay out of the way' meant let Schwartz lead the way, and if things got violent, use him as a meat shield. Let him soak up all the pain and injuries when his spells or planning skills failed him, so that she didn't have to. "The sooner their journey begins, the sooner it may end."

"So tell me, how does someone so completely and utterly useless such as yourself become such a valued member of our little organization of maliciousness?" Schwartz asked with a cruel smirk. "From what I hear, you have no talents to speak of, and I wouldn't think you pretty enough to go to so much effort. Although with your ability to survive most missions, perhaps you simply have a supernatural amount of luck? Feel free to stop me when I get close by the way, I'm sure I can keep going all day if left unchecked."

"If she were lucky, she would not be stuck with you." she pointed out, her irritation clear in her tone - at least, until she saw fit to continue speaking. "She is surprised, however, that the demon wasn't deemed important enough to know by the master. His temper aside, she expected more of the brute." Charity then snickered at the thought, her laughter far more smug than anything.

"Not all of us are privy to the hiring practices of the master. Recruitment is not a part of my job description." Schwartz said with a shrug. "I just get told what I need to know and that's perfectly fine by me. I'm just pointed in the direction of my target and told to let loose. And I do hope you're not going to be speaking in the second person the entire time. You may not be high class but I'd hoped you were at least educated enough to speak properly."

And thus the demon insults the narrative, but what does he expect? He is a player, a pawn in the scheme of things - not an author who weaves his tale or a god writing his subjects' fates. He has no say, and neither does she now that she thinks of it. The waif let out a soft sigh, now depressed by the futility of it all. "If the demon must know, she bought her place through blood, sweat, and tears. Persistence is her virtue, her saving grace. No matter how long it takes her, no matter how much it hurts her, she finishes her duty. The waif does not ask for glory, recognition, or praise - nor does she expect it." Further information was unnecessary, not to mention that it wasn't her's to give.

"Oh woe is you! Oh the hardships you have faced! Such a noble and selfless heart you hold!" Schwartz held up his cane and pretended to play it like a tragic violin. "Glory or no, we've all had it rough. I somehow doubt you've pushed yourself harder than anyone else here."
PostPosted: Wed Nov 05, 2014 10:06 am

"Certainly harder than the spoiled child whose saving grace is his cosmic temper tantrums." Charity remarked, rolling her eyes as she continued on - despite the risks, now feeling she's rather walk ahead so that she didn't have to endure the sight of him. "As the tale goes, a certain someone has been mishandling the master's coin. From what is told, the duo's goals are twofold - kill the thieving traitor and put an end to his associates' operations. However, it must be emphasized that the master's stock - and the factory itself - is to remain mostly unharmed." In other words, even if she couldn't fight, the madwoman did not trust Schwartz not to botch things by going batshit with his magic. Charity could not help but hope the punishment would be rescinded if they did well. She tried to speak articulately, for her partner's benefit, but she was not used to speaking with others so much. She could rattle on if she needed, and she was no stranger to overplaying her mental issues in order to make ends meet, but her throat was starting to hurt a bit.

Schwartz sighed in disappointment. "I suppose I can keep the magic minimal, but I make no promises. If they're smart they've set something else up, as I do hope they weren't stupid enough to go embezzling money without a solid plan. I'd be happy with a nice dragon myself. It's boring if it can be ended with a simple fireball." he mused as he walked with his cane behind his back.
