Setting

Early 20th Century Steam Punk

Clarification of Technology:

No modern warfare beyond WWII, but steam punk included. Air Ships and Railroads are popular forms of travel. Bolt Action Rifles are cutting edge technology as far as guns are concerned. Cannons, chemical warfare, and pistols do exist. Computers of any form don't exist yet. Tanks, snipers, and manual robots are new and extremely unreliable. For fairness, no Atomic bombs. This is an age of Mechanics and Steel.

There are 4 countries:

Ander - (Germanic styled) Where the Steam Revolution took place. At first, it was a small and often overlooked nation because of it's rough mountainous terrain, but the people there were natural mechanics and scientists. After their breakthrough, they became the worlds strongest force in the new age and put pressure on many of the other nations. Their government is a militaristic one led by a council of 5 generals and nobles, where the king and the head general make decisions in a combined effort to take over the entire continent with their new technology. They have already taken over several small nearby countries to become a major power in only a few short years.

Norra - (Greek-Roman styled) The wealthiest nation. This nation sits at a very desirable position near the sea. They have the best lands, the most wealth, and are renowned for their art and philosophy. For years, they were the leading nation in all forms and were thought to be indestructible. The government is a slow moving body run by a council of elders until extreme situations when they allow the king to take over. The people of Norra now fear this new turn of events in Ander, though they still think themselves far superior to all of the other nations.

Hannon - (Arabian styled) This is a nation of traders and the second greatest nation before the steam revolution. Often, Norra and Hannon bumped heads in the past, fighting over territories and wealth. Their nation sits in the middle of the world and is known for it's exotic goods and great banks. Many of the great bandit groups and air pirates live there because its easy to hide and crime isn't strongly enforced. They are ruled by a king-like figure who has several sultans to protect him and the people.

Gunther - (Russian styled) This nation is a bit weak and slow moving towards the steam revolution because of the harsh and cold environment. They are very poor and often ignored. Still, their mercenaries are known for their almost inhuman strength and loyalty to their customers. The land is ruled by a weak king and the people are not afraid to go through rash means in order to survive.

Where time stands:

Ander becomes allies with Gunther with the intention of using the weak king as a puppet, and declares war on the rest of the world. Norra tries to catch up in technology order to secure their place as the indestructible nation. Unfortunately, they aren't advancing fast enough, and they are now being overrun by Ander's soldiers. Hannon is trying to stay out of the war even though they know they're next. In this world of turmoil and chaos, heroes arise and legends emerge.

Rules

1 ) There shall be no god modding
2 ) There shall be no cybering (go to PMs)
3 ) Try to keep things PG13.
4 ) Romance is encouraged as long as it doesn't overrun the RP
5 ) Fighting is encouraged, but try to designate a winner at the beginning of the fight. This prevents people trying to 'one-up' each other.
6 ) Killing characters is ok as long as it's ok with that characters owner.
7 ) Keep out of character comments in "(( ))"
8 ) No out of character fighting. Either take it to PMs or stop or you'll be kicked out.
9 ) PM all profiles to me with your character's allegiance as the title
10) Put a heart emocon in the profile's PM so that I know you read the rules.
11) You may have as many characters as you want, but you are personally responsible for keeping up with them.
12) Stay active. If you want to quit, PM me and I will take you out.

Bio: Priscilla was born to a low and falling noble family in Ander. Her childhood was spent trying to breed her as the 'perfect woman' while her older brother Hector was to be sent off to the military academy. When she was 13, right before her brother was sent off, her entire family was killed in a freak accident while she was home sick. In order to keep the estate going and prevent it from being divided up among her selfish relatives, she secretly took the place of her brother Hector, pretending to be male and going to the Academy in his place. As time passed on, even though she was weaker then the other boys, she held the best grades and was an excellent horse rider. Because of this, she quickly rose to the rank of an officer and secured the position of her noble status. Still, she has problems with the prospect of marriage and tried to ignore it as best as possible.

Bio: John was once Priscilla's slave who worked at her manor as a butler. He is also the only one who knows her real gender. John was always loyal to Priscilla as she grew up, even though she often treated him cruelly as a way of venting. At first, he hated her for it, but after seeing how her instructors treated her, and hearing her play music, he began to sympathize with her and allowed her cruelty. Growing up, she was always the closest one to him. After the freak accident, before she left for the academy, Priscilla gave John his freedom as an apology for how she treated him. In light of this, he joined the army and requested to be her 'special assistant'. Priscilla was irritated by his constant persistence, but he told her she was like a sister to him and he wanted to make sure she was ok. Priscilla finally agreed and John still works for her and stays by her side.

They have a very strong brother-sister relationship because they are the only family each other has.

He was sent to military school and passed with flying colors, and grew exceedingly popular due to his grades, athletics, looks, status, and silver tongue. During his senior year at the military academy, he met Hector, who was the complete opposite personality of himself. At first he couldn't stand him, especially because the younger Hector humiliated him in a duel and made higher grades then him, being the first to ever beat him. But after Lance heard about Hector's past, he felt bad for Hector and decided to shove himself unto Hector's life. They have been 'pals' ever since.

Bio: Noland Lhant was born and raised in Ander, where the Steam Revolution took place. His parents were inventors, teaching him ways on how to make society easier through inventing. He was taught by the most high-end professors of what it means to make inventions, but he is all about designing weapons, seeing he is stir-crazy about guns. Noland was used to being hired as a detective, even though it seldom happens, he is renowned for his skills of deduction. Using what his professors taught him, Noland moved to Norra when things started to get serious, making him a target from opposing nations, or to be forced to be their scientist for making weapons. He seeks help from fellow inventors, all the while coming up for new weapons for Norra to get ready and maybe have the upper hand.

She started learning how to find and sell things since she was fifteen in an effort to buy the rare medicine she needed to heal her mother but it was already too late and by the time she could get the expensive medicine, her mother had already passed. She was disheartened at first but cheered on by the company of other merchants, black merchant dealers and rogues, she returned to her normal cheerful self. Eventually, she had sold enough to make herself a millionaire in roughly three years. Now, she doesn't deal with small fries anymore. She only sells the best, most luxurious and rare items these days like different kinds of silk, jewelry, stolen blueprints (and other stolen things) as well as mechanized parts and airship spares, as a way of keeping up with trends and making money out of it. She travels around nowadays, with a wagon of goods driven by horse, a bolt-action rifle and a brown, trained mastiff that is even bigger than her, considering her petite frame.

Ruby learned the trade of building and repairing machines from her father until she was 16, when her father announced she was to be married off to the old tanner across the road who she completely detested. Because her parents refused to hear her plea, she decided to run away the day before the wedding in order to seek her own fortune. Things started off poorly for her as she only got pocket change for doing odd jobs on the road, but one day she ran across a gang of thieves sitting around a fire with a ton of loot. She used her charm to trick them out of their gold, and from that day forward, decided to become an air pirate who robs from other air pirates.

Dislikes: things not going according to plan, and men trying to sleep with her.
Other: Ruby still feels some remorse over running away, so she occasionally sends letters and money to her parents. Though her father wrote her back saying he forgave her and asked her to come home, she decided not to because thoughts of her father make her feel guilty about what she does.

He rarely gets a chance to develop close, personal connections so he appreciates what conversations he could have since he knows people would have to drift apart someday.

Bio: Dardanas, better known by his more common names, Dan or Danny, is a wanderer who always ends up getting captured by air pirates or taken by other air pirates. He is a skilled mechanic and inventor, inspired best by nature and art. He was born in Ander but his parents moved to Gunther before the Steam Revolution in an effort to remedy his frailness. They noticed his skill with machines at an early age and were afraid he might die early of sickness. His grown up brothers didn't go with them as they had their own lives in Ander. He got sent to a military academy and grew all the more interested in mechanics, disappointed in the primitive lifestyle there. It also got him more interested in art, greenery and things that weren't 'frozen in time' like that country. Growing up in Gunther strengthened him a lot though even if the first few years were harsh on his health. Being in the academy hadn't made him a warrior though. It just meant years of getting left behind in physical training exams and being verbally abused by people who know he is potentially dangerous with his inventions though he never acts on it. His parents moved back to Ander when he graduated and he proceeded to discover the world and learn more about his craft which resulted in being captured by air pirates and making ingenious things for them.

Age: Twenty six
Personality: Ren was molded out to be a docile, obedient dog of the government until he left the military. He has kept some traits from his days as a menial soldier, including loyalty and diligence. He is a respectable man in his eloquence, if not wit, and is quite clever. Though his outward traits appear ever so noble, his intentions are never quite moral. Ren surely has developed a rather cold temper and is rather secretive, even to those he trusts. He may appear kind and generous, but is truly a quiet, if not mysterious, and spontaneous man.
Preference: Heterosexual; but is subject to experimentation
Bio: Why Ren had decided to join Norra’s military, well, he wouldn’t know how to answer. In truth, he had joined the army to please his parents, who didn’t expect much of their son other than to run their family business: a bank. Despite his father’s rather constant chastise, who wanted desperately for run to follow in his banking footsteps, Ren joined the military academy, trained hard, and became a notable soldier in the army. Ren thought it was an admirable cause, to fight his country.
But after four years in the military, Ren began question the greedy motives of Norra, a country who will fight for everything just to be titled better than Ander. And so, Ren ran away from the military, trying to escape the war, to Hannon, whose appeals of peace and isolationism caught Ren’s ideals. He stayed in Hannon; but upon meeting a girl named Pozlaceny, the runaway princess of Hannon, he once again found himself on the run. He has taken Pozlaceny under his wing, out of sympathy, and the two have been traveling around ever since.
Likes: An easy and peaceful life, obviously; money, when he could get it; drinking, almost excessively so; women, when they like him back; books and philosophy, since they’re so intriguing; and any work he could get his hands on, from cooking to cleaning to fixing things.
Dislikes: People who are picky or complain, since he gets annoyed easily; people who question his abilities, since he dislikes feeling inferior; injustice, though Ren is being a hypocrite here; and bitter foods, since Ren has an undeniable sweet tooth.
Other: Currently, he and Pozlaceny are working at a tavern at a port in Norra, hoping to make enough money to catch a ride on an air ship somewhere.

Personality: Ever the carefree spirit, Pozlaceny grew up to be a dreamer; someone who desired to escape the prison she considered her life. She was always one of the outgoing kind, witty, bright and ever so gentle but the environment shoe grew up in was rather oppressive. While she remained behaved and well-mannered in her days as a princess, now that she has escaped, she tries her best to be independent. Though she is almost annoyingly stubborn, she knows how to get what she wants and isn’t as submissive as she appears.
Preference: Heterosexual
Bio: Her father, the figure-head of Hannon, always had several mistresses until one unfortunate woman was ‘blessed’ to be pregnant. Pozlaceny was the result of the affair. Her father decided to keep her and raise her to be a notable, yet docile princess. However, being raised by a parent who wanted to control all the aspects of their child’s life often results in the child’s strong desire to break free.
Pozlaceny eventually found the nerve to run away after her father had tried to marry her off to a sultan. She laid low, not wanting to get caught by her father’s guards until she met Ren, a lowly traveler. Pozlaceny quickly latched onto him and grew quite fond of him until he heard her story. He allowed her to travel with him and she speedily agreed; she would’ve done anything to escape from her father’s controlling grasp.
The two have been traveling together since, and have traveled far and wide, trying to escape her father. They earn money doing side jobs and are currently in Norra working in a tavern.
Likes: Being outside, since she doesn’t like to be confined; company, since she doesn’t like to be alone; exotic goods, it’s in her Hannon blood; air ships, since they are free to fly the dreamy skies; and her independence, loving to be free from her father.
Dislikes: Distractions, being easily distracted; dishonesty, she hates liars; carrots, they taste bad; having no money, since it’s hard without; people who talk a lot, since she finds them snobbish; alcohol, since she still doesn’t have a taste for it; and the dark, since she is scared of being alone.
Other: Pozlaceny tries to keep her royal blood a secret, in fear of being caught, and will try her best for it to remain a secret.
