Maybe this should go in a sub-form but i cant find one that fits.

So many of you may know the book The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. Its supposed to be really good and important and a classic. But i just read it and i dont see whats so special about it. It really just bored me. So if anyone agrees or disagrees let me know what you think.

I have no idea what it's about, I just randomly found it in one of my mom's boxes and decided to read it.
I haven't read it all yet, but I found that some parts made me laugh out loud.
It's descriptive, and not the worst 'classic' book I've read, so it's pretty good to me.

Actually I think the right subforum would be
14: Si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes
but since the name is in Latin, I understand how you overlooked it. xd

It's a great novel. It's one of the most tightly written novels I've ever read. Every little thing Salinger says has meaning.

The novel is centered around Holden's fears and misunderstandings about death. He can't understand why his little brother had to die so he fantasizes about keeping children forever innocent. If you aren't moved by this story, then you aren't reading closely enough. The guy wants to commit suicide, he is going insane. Everyone feels crazy sometimes, especially when they're transitioning from being a child to an adult. Holden just takes it to a whole new level. This is kind of a bad explanation, but it's the best I can come up with in a short amount of time.

If you have any questions about the novel I can answer them. The novel is heavy with symbolism, so it's a difficult read.
