The start of a life
its a beautiful thing
parents picking through names
until they hear that ring
in the back of their mind
that says"thats the one"
just like that
part of life is done
now 6 years forward
skip to the next chapter
you hear for the first time
what you now know is a rapper
and you're pulled away
and told they are bad for you
to stay away from them whatever you do
and anyone who listens to them
or likes them as well
up comes the first layer of your hardened shell
and as you get older and you begin to grow,
the effects of your shell begin to show
now 4 years later
at the age of 10
sure enough your parents go and "help" you again
by telling you this
and telling you that
and things like
"be careful, you know that he's black"
and then once again
you fear yet another
just because you were told
even though he's your brother
you will hate him for life
and you'll look down with spite
for over the years you tell yourself that they're right
they are mom and they're dad
they wouldn't lie to me
they only want to show me so i can see
what is bad in this world
and who makes it that way
until 20 years later
you have not one little ray
of hope for mankind
and your hardened shell
is now more refined
thicker and harder and shuts more people out
for every single one
are who you were warned about
its no one but you
and all others the same
"only they understand
only they know the shame
that has been put upon us"
as he curses his name
out loud to himself
wondering how he could fail
despite all his effort
he was to no avail
he could not stop the black
the yellow and red
he wouldn't be happy until they all were dead
so he continues to live
his life in pure spite
50 years pass by
in bad shape and bad health
and despite all his connections, fame and wealth
he couldn't nurse himself back to health
and as his life comes to an end,
not even one friend
or family member
joins him in his last December
its Christmas day,
and time is not to spare
hourglass grains are growing bare
and as he starts to give up hope
he was sent down a heavenly rope
to hold him up and hold him dear
and this is how he ended his final year:
no family no friends
not one in the end
for the ones that helped him
to build up his shell
of prejudice and hate as deep as a well
are now long gone and he now sees
that he has been foolish
and he begins to leave
this world for all time....
but as he begins, he hears the chime
of a voice in the air
from across the room
and it pulls him abruptly
from his eminent doom
as he opens his eyes and looks to see
he says aloud"who's that in front of me?"
She said in a voice with the comfort of home
"my name is Katrine i heard you were alone
on Christmas day, so i left home
to come here for the night
and be by your side
as a volunteer here
by this rule i abide:
"skin doesn't matter and race is just that
and when push comes to shove and your up at bat
do you want to be judged
and hated and feared?
with no logic attached
just because of what you hear?
so love one another
love each as a brother
sister or mother
and at the end of the day
if you don't give that a shot,
then you wind up alone,
now who have you got?"
the man began to speak
of how wrong that she was
and how the crime and the death
fit those people like a glove
and it was all them
and in turn their kin
and as he looked down
he spotted her skin
dark and rough
and just as he thought that he'd had enough
his thoughts were silenced
and he knew he was too rough
and on Christmas day this girl left her home
and through the streets she must have roamed
and in the snow and the freezing cold
all of these and still she's so bold
as to help him in need
and he sees that his days
have been wasted with greed
despaired and hazed
his heart had took leave and now that its back he leans in his bed
and with that very moment he slouched slightly, dead
but before he had left
just before the end
he saw the girls face:
his first true friend.
so know this now
and take to it good,
there is always time to act like you should
love one another and help each survive
and if you don't hate you surely will thrive
and all it takes,
all you need, is not to hate
Did I describe you
up to this date?
There is always
time to change

- Title: Time to Change

- Description: A story I made up and put into a rhyme scheme. It is roughly about not being able to see how you are until it is too late...or is it?
