Mother used to tell us stories of this ghastly beast, Xaru being its name.
A god of horror, always accompanied by its familiar and a ghastly flame.
Blood dripping from its beak, a dragon's tail swishing as it approaches.
They say it was a manifestation, of something even worse than the roaches.
Somewhat of a demon, slaying those who look into its eyes.
If you dare look into them, it will even skin you alive!
Many try to slay it for its treasure, only to be a wandering soul forever.
At night, I go to sleep, horrified by what has been said.
Maybe one day, I'll slay this monstrous beast!
And may I hold this demon by its head.
With that, Xaru shall no longer be on the hunt.
Human flesh and souls, no longer its feast.
Our village shall be celebrating, no longer fearing this monstrosity!
Nevertheless, all of us cower in fear, secretly...fearing its ferocity.
Perhaps you can't kill a deity, nay, an undead beast from the gods.
It is our curse, perhaps...
...and as I muse upon this, my mother looks at me and nods.
"My son, go and rest. For Xaru will come after you if you do not sleep."
Snuffing out the torch, I lie awake, neither making a sound or a peep.
And soon I fall asleep, secretly scared of that nightmare known as Xaru.

A poem I wrote, originally for the description of this entry:

However, it got to be a bit lengthy, so I decided to post it here as well as expand upon it.
