Listen Child,
Now listen close.
Look at me when I’m talkin’ at you.
Blues ain’t no mockingbird.
That’s right son,
You heard my voice loud and clear.
The story’s never the same, far or near.
Blues is LOUDER than the Crow, cawing on and on,
Blues is SOFTER than a feather floating into the great beyon’.
Blues is BLACKER than your skin,
Blues is WHITER than paper,thin.
It’s never just one color,
Though the name may prove it wrong…
Blues is ONE and ANOTHER, singing a sad, sad, song.
But Blues ain’t no mockingbird, as I told you before.
It’s not like a rolling ball goin’ cross the floor.
Blues is a VOICE deep inside your head.
Blues is the FEELING when you’re sick and in your bed.
Blues is great DEPRESSION coarsin’ through your veins.
Blues is having your prized horse, and LOOSING hold the reins.
But Blues ain’t no mockingbird, so listen good and hard,
Blues is the PAIN you feel in your very heart.
Listen to your heart and one day you’ll come to see,
That sad song that we all sing, one or two, or three,
Is us together you and me,
Watching those old mockingbirds up in the cypress tree.
Now you know son,
Now you know.
Blues ain’t no mockingbird,
Because it never just comes and goes.
