• I listen to him talking about her
    so lovingly
    so adoringly
    and I tell him they are meant for each other

    I listen to the story of how they fell in love
    over and over
    and many times over again
    and I tell him how romantic and sweet it sounds

    I listen to how crazy he goes
    when he can't see her
    when he can't talk to her
    and I tell him that it's normal, that she must feel the same way

    I listen to him rant about their problems
    with each other
    with so many others
    and I tell him that they'll make it through the hard times

    I listen to him tell me how great I am
    for listening
    for being there for him
    and I just nod and smile

    Because there is no way I can tell him that I love him
