What is Love?

• Description: A poem I wrote in third grade. At least, I wrote the first two stanzas in third grade, when my first boyfriend broke up with me for the popular girl, who always bullied me. I just re-discovered it and wrote a third verse to it because I am over him finally and I am ready to move on. I barely changed anything in the first two stanzas and I am a terrible poet, so it really stinks, but I just needed an outlet for my feelings.

What is Love?
Is Love governed by the God above?
Perhaps humans can choose
But then how do we always lose
Our loved one to the cruel unknown.

What is pain?
Is Pain what we feel when our love is slain?
Cut down cruelly by the enemy unknown,
How we are left, cold and alone!
Is that what pain is?

Why is love so painful?
As my love looked past me, his face disdainful,
I cried, tears of longing and agony and pain.
I would look back on that day my heart was slain,
and I would see;
He was never the one for me.
