I woke up this morning,
And I headed for the door,
Ready to greet the world,
With open arms,
Ready to start my day anew.
But as I stood out in the open air,
A cold and bitter wind chilled me to the bone,
To the soul,
I looked to the sky,
Found it gray and lifeless,
The ground,
Once a vibrant sage,
Was now faded to a dull black nothingness,
And where the flowers once stood,
Staring up at they sky,
Their vivid colors shouting for attention,
Sat little green-eyed monsters,
Who spoke silver tongued lies to me,
Through their sinister, sharp-toothed smiles.
They beckoned me to come sit amongst them,
"It's such a beautiful day," they whispered.
And I,
Scared for my life,
Backed into my house,
Out of this surreal hell,
And said to myself,
"Perhaps another day."
And that day became a week,
A month,
A year,
TIme became inmeasurable,
Days slurred together,
And the world stayed dark and morbid,
And as I sat alone in this safe box I call my home,
I began to wonder,
Is the world really so dark,
Or am I just seeing it out of wayward eyes?

Description:
Hey there. This is a poem I wrote especially for a poetry slam at my school, which I infact did win. Basically, it's about a dream I had, but symbolically, I suppose it's about the idea of agoraphobia, otherwise known as the fear of going outside. Remember, I appreciate honest comments and ratings.
Puppies and strawberries,
