Many a night I dream of you,
And the ways you’ve changed me.
I think of the times we spent whispering into the others ear.
I think of the way you laughed at all our troubles,
Claiming that they would all go away.
We never realized that those troubles were here to stay.
We tried to hold on to one another,
Looking for someone to help us along.
We only wanted love,
We only wanted care.
We wanted someone who would always be there,
To lend a helping hand,
Or a shoulder on which to cry,
Someone to answer our questions,
How,
When,
And why.
I remember when we met,
Seems like a lifetime ago,
How long it’s been,
Who cares,
I don’t know.
All I know is that we were both so alone,
And the world seemed to shun us away.
I met you at that spot,
I’m sure you remember,
It was a very cold winter,
It was in the middle of December.
You sat there,
With a grim look on your face,
Your eyes staring into the distance,
Staring into space.
I knew that you and I were the same at heart.
So I introduced myself,
Asked you for your name,
And asked if you’d like to spend some time with me,
I told you I’d play no games.
We started off so well that day,
I thought maybe I’d found the one for me,
Yet something told me this couldn’t last,
But I wouldn’t listen.
So here we are only millimeters apart,
My hands locked behind your back,
Your head resting on my heart.
We hold this embrace for only a second or two
You look at me,
I look at you.
I try to smile,
Make everything alright,
Tell you to call me later on tonight.
You smile back,
And you will.
We laugh,
An anxious sigh
We don’t want to say it,
We both know why.
You were always out going,
I was always shy,
Yet we came together,
Under a dark gray sky.
We denounced what society told us,
What our peers did say,
We would be together everyday,
Every minute,
Any place,
Any way.
We used to spend much time sitting in silence,
Sitting in the dark.
We needed no words to describe the way we felt,
When we kissed,
Oh how we kissed,
Our troubles did melt,
Away,
Away,
They did go.
And we were happy,
So glad to be alive.
Back in those days,
There seemed to be eternal bliss,
Those days,
We will surly miss.
Staring into each others eyes once more,
Life seems so chaotic,
We don’t know what’s in store,
For our futures are drifting apart.
A tear forms in my eye,
You put your hand to my heart,
And give that reassuring smile,
That you know I do love.
I smile back,
Can’t say its alright,
My hearts just not willing,
To give up the fight.
I bite my lip,
And try to seem tough,
The road ahead,
I know,
Is going to be rough.
I’m trying to think of something to say,
Try to say something to brighten the day,
Or is it night,
Outside this place,
Suddenly I notice,
The tremors of your face.
I become panicked,
I don’t know what to do,
Soon you’ll be crying,
And I’ll be crying with you.
I see the tears in your eyes,
Your beautiful eyes,
I lose myself in them,
But now they scare me,
More than anything.
I see fear in your eyes,
Fear that was never there before.
I tell you how great you are,
You know it’s all true.
You know I’ll always,
Always,
Be there for you.
I’ll be there when you’re happy,
Or sad.
Yet you can’t stop crying,
But I’m not mad.
You see,
I’ m crying too,
Just I can’t really show it,
Yet I say it,
I’m going to miss you.
Your eyes light up,
And I see a smile.
You start laughing,
You say you’ll miss me too.
But before I can say what I need to say,
You kiss my cheek,
Turn,
And run away.
I watch you go,
Down the path you choose,
You’ve everything to gain,
I’ve got nothing to lose.
We have decided to start our lives anew
Though it eats me up,
What am I to do,
I look at your fading back,
And I say,
“I love you.”
So I turn,
And I walk,
The other way,
Stopping outside,
I look to the sky.
The birds take flight.
So long my dear,
Goodbye.
