• I rose slowly from where I lay
My back wet from the dew
It's time to start a new day

    My shadow jumped with delight
She ran to the door beckoning me to follow
I followed my knees shook with fright

The door opened with a groan
    But my shadow went on
I peeked around the coner to see where she had gone

    My shadow so brav
    So kind and loving
    Why couldn't i be her?

    She ran back to me
Her face as pale as a ghost
She said nothing just pointed to the couch and hung her head in shame

I walked slowly to see what had her so frightened
    I was a hunter
    Watching every step I took

    When i reached the couch
    My head shook with fear
My body fell to the floor

    I could not move
    I could not speak
I could only lay on the floor and weep

    My shadow joined me
I did not look at her
Just at the mangled body laying on the couch

    My shadow so brave
    So kind and caring
    Why couldn't I be her?
