There were bombs flying, people dying.
How can this 4-year-old not stop crying?
Her parents never came home after they ran and left her alone,
So now all she does is just stare at the sky.
That velvet sky, so bright and blue,
No human being can understand her other than you.
She left her country, for a place called America.
Hoping to find a better rhyme,
In this rhythm of lies.
You never know how statistics can destroy those lines.
Twenty years later, theres something newer to see.
Another girl her age all wondering the streets,
Lucky for this girl, her parents didn't leave her, they're standing right next to her tiny feet.
Her mother is staring up at the velvet sky, saying,
"Thank you, Mom and Daddy, for giving me more time."

I guess this poem is about survival and a prayer of thanks.
I was watching Persepolis and I just started writing. I dunno why... - Date: 01/28/2009
