The ground is hard as hateful stone,
The air as cold as death.
To have no one, and be alone,
Can take a man's breath.
Why does sadness permeate,
The fragile thing called life?
Why is it the will of the great fate,
to replace joy with strife?
Evening passes, as do we all,
Into the dark of night.
But there is no reason we should fall,
And give up the fight.
