I am from the stage
From actors and stilted scripts
In the sad melodrama of life
I am from the blood-shot eyes
Of girls who cry greedy tears of attention
Of the boys’ weak words and vicious desires
I am from the Rose
The beauty matched only by the violence and gore.
I’m from poverty and disparity
From Dog and Lola
I’m from respect and laughter
And from leather libraries filled with dust
I am from the comfort of purring
And from the yipping of loyalty.
I’m from new places and new people
And, “You’re all you’ve got.”
I’m from the setting of the sun
And of the croissants and letters
From the service of the brave
Where the men have been disciplined
If not into maturity, a hard shell to hide behind.
The vanity
Where narcissism is spawned and spread
Like disease crawling on my skin
I am of the lies and disappointments
I’m from the keys that create no music
Typing only to faceless pixels
I am from the minds of heroes
And spread the word by my own means.
