- My mom likes to go thrift stores; she looks for antiques because she watches Antique Roadshow where the things people just find in their garage or in secondhand stores end up costing a fortune. I was with my mom and dad at a local store and I found these amazing books. They were bound in leather and they aged beautifully. They were the type of books you put in glass cases and get from your grandparents or as a family heirloom or something. They were classics, too. Robert Louis Stevenson. Jules Verne. I looked for the price, and thought it read $12.99. I said that couldn't be it, because this was thrift store. I went to the counter to ask what the prices for each book were, and while in line, I saw a man buying a stuffed animal. He was also buying a couple of plain shirts, like the one he was wearing then and a pair of pants. I don't know. I don't know what it was but something about this person made me almost tear up in the middle of the store. He reminded me of love in the midst of a tragedy and that no matter what, you can make something about of anything. It was the stuffed animal that really affected me. I then imagined his family, a wife and a kid, him bringing home the stuffed animal he bought with his meager money, and how his kid would react, the smile on his/her face and then the guy, feeling great, accomplished, loving, and loved. It made my day.
