The One I Must Protect
The Introduction
I first met Eda when she was three years old and I was five, in a basket at the foot of the door step of the house I use to lived in with my mother. It was just me and my mother ever since my father died in the war that still continues to this day when I was two. The first thing I noticed about her when I first saw her was that she was wearing a golden chain necklace with a gloden wing on it with a clear diamond cut stone on the wing. There was a note that was with her. I never knew what it read but whatever it said it made my mother want to worry and since then she grew up as part of our family.
The two of us grew up in a rather small village; there were only at least 20 at most living there. The village was almost like it was issolated with how far away it was from any town. The closest town was four days away by house. Even though the village was "issolated", it was one of the most beautiful place someone could see. It was vibrinte with all the color from the plants that grew around it: The grass was lush green, the flowers were so bright with colors that they look like they were painted with the riches paint and painted by the world greatest painter; but the most attractive thing about this village was the tree that grew in the center of it. It was a cherry tree, but the size it grew was so grand that the villagers thought that it was a blessing that every first day of every month there is festive gathering of dancing, eating, and drinking to celebrate this. The villagers believe that because that the tree is a blessing that it is also the reason why the war has never wonder over to the spacious grounds that soround the village.
Ever since my mother died when I was 14 and Eda was 12, it has been just me and her. Before she died, she gave me the engagement ring my father gave to her as a mometum of her memory. It was really tough at first without my mother, but Eda was with me. She was the only family I had left. I made a promise to her that I'll always be with her to protect her. But when I turned 17... it ment that I was to be drafted into the war. It ment also ment that I was to leave her behind. Eda and the villager hid me every time the soldier of the imperial capital came by are village. Every time they did I always remember something my mother told me.
"If someone from the capital comes to the village, don't let them find out about Eda's ability..."
As long as I knew Eda, she was always "special" in a way. One was the ability to heal. Because of that she became the doctor of this village. There is more to her ability, but that part always leaves so much stress on her body. At times it will leave her bed ridden for a few days, but there are some cases were it leaves her ill and weak for weeks.
For all these year I protected her. Little did I know that what was going to happen that would lead us to the truth on what the war was really about.
