I glanced down at the whip creamy icing covered birthday cake my mother had secretly ordered for me three weeks ago, trying to surprise me (Yes today is my B-day, July 13, which also happens to be the last day of the school year.) but failed. i saw the faint, dull reflection of the moon as its shining light glistened in through the crystal windows, making the light transform into a glorious rainbow that covered the living room floor.
“Well...,” mom sighed, “I guess he’s going to be late.” pain shot through her eyes, but was quickly replaced with warmth and she smiled at me lovingly “I guess we’ll have to start without your dad, huh?” she didn't fool me, her face may be able to lie, but her mind couldn’t. She was hoping i wasn’t peeking in her mind. I stared down guiltily at the thirteen lit candles placed neatly in a circle. The flame licked at the air and seemed to dance and mingle with one another.
I hesitantly bit my lower lip. Why? Why was my mom getting so upset about what dad was doing? “I guess...but we have to save him some cake.” I barely whispered. My mom sighed with relief when i wasn't upset, but like her, my face could hid many things.
I had to trust my mom, she is the only one who new of my “gift”. When she found out i could read minds and sense peoples emotions, she made me promise to never tell anyone. Over the years I discovered i can only read someones mind after the experience of physical contact, but if not, i cant sense them.
“I think that sounds fair.” She said. My mouth watered as she cut the first piece, i could already taste the soft sponge like vanilla cake, making my taste buds yearn for the real thing. But my ambition to know what dad was doing took back over. I silently pondered through her thoughts, finding nothing but work, my sister Britt (The biggest whore ever) my dad and me. No, wait, I’ve been here before. I dug around more, finding thoughts memories that just happened today. but some how, they seemed so familiar. But then something caught my eye, it was my mother, looking at herself through a mirror, just staring at herself.
Then something weird happened.
Her face transformed in front of my eyes. Her eyes tinted from their normal light brown, to a bright crimson that held hunger in them. Her lips seemed to grow and parted reveling devastating fangs. What was she?
I gasped when i was shoved out of her mind, a force around me seemed to lift me and throw me against the wall, the world around me burst into flames. My moms cry of pain pierced the air around me and rang in my ears. I watched helplessly as my moms body was engulfed in fire and dissolved into nothingness. That monstrous version of my mother, with those demon fangs, tormenting eyes, and blood thirst expression, still lingered in my mind.
My vision began to blur as my last bit of consciousness drained from me, and everything went black...
