There was a knock on my hospital room door as I pulled my shirt straight on me. “Come in,” I answered. The door opened and my father stepped through first. He wore a nice plane navy blue t shirt with nice pressed jeans. His hair was gray and slowly receding with wrinkles under his eyes. I smiled softly. Even though my dad was a jerk, I loved him whole heartedly. Next to him my mother came in, her short red hair and copper eyes gleamed with tears as she saw me. “Mom! Dad!” They ran over and hugged me tightly. I smiled relief filling me from head to toe. Mom pulled back and cupped my face with her hands, tears running down her smooth freckled cheeks.
“What happened? I thought something terrible happened when you didn’t come home from your SATs! Your father and I called the cops we were so scared!” I shook my head crying.
“I was just getting some things in Wal-Mart when the storm hit and they evacuated the store before I could get out. I got stuck in there then the roof collapsed.” Dad stood back watching me, his lips drawn down into a frown. Mom gasped and took me back into a hug.
“Oh honey! I’m so sorry!” Mom always blamed herself if something bad would happen to me. I guess she always felt she should have made me smarter or wiser or taught me more important things when I got into something. That was my mother for you. But she was wonderful. The only thing I hated was that she let dad step over her when Titan was home….don’t think about him! This was the first time I had ever really thought about Titan so much. Being around Ryder and hearing about his family made me think of him.
“Its okay. How’s the house? Is Jo-Jo okay?” I asked. Dad rolled his eyes and swiped a hand across his head.
“Good lord Trinity, you and that dog,” I just ignored him. Mom smiled.
“The house has a little damage but it can be fixed easily and Jo-Jo is fine. She whined the whole night of the storm wondering where you were.” I smiled grateful.
“That’s great! I’m glad you guys are okay,” I said looking at dad. He stared at me a while.
“You seem a little different Trinity Ann,” dad said quietly. I shrugged. Mom rubbed my arms and I almost winced. They were still a little bruised. It was mostly my ribs that hurt, my leg only hurt once in a while and I walked with a slight limp but that was it. The healing medicine they have now were so much better then 5 years ago.
“We need to get you home,” mom said going to my night stand where all the cards and flowers my family members had sent. And some cards were from people I didn’t even know saying that it was amazing and cool that I got stuck in Wal-Mart. Ha! Not really. Besides having Ryder with me, it wasn’t all that great. It was scary. Mom packed my stuff and I very lightly put on my jacket.
Ryder was going home today too but his parents had already taken him. He came in before his parents got there and kissed me. He told me he would call and we could meet somewhere. I had nodded only wanting to be close to him. I didn’t want him to leave. I hugged him tightly, breathing in his scent before he left. I sighed and slipped on a pair of shoes. There was another knock on the door as mom gathered my things. I looked at my parents with a frowned, they mirrored the look.
“Um, come in,” I said. The door opened and a woman stepped in with a business dress on and little glasses. Her brown hair was pulled back into a neat bun behind her head. She had an ear piece in her ear. The woman smiled bordly at me.
“Hello! I’m Suzan Smith!” She said happily as she walked in. She stuck out her hand to my dad. He raised an eyebrow and took her hand. She shook it then she shook my mom’s. She looked at me.
“Its very exciting to meet the parents of the Girl who got stuck in Walmart! I’m here to talk to you Ms. Adams about letting me help you and Mr. Williams by letting me become your agent.” I stared at her surprised. What was she talking about?
“Excuse me?” I said. She smiled.
“Well, if you haven’t noticed you are very, very famous. You and your boyfriend Mr. Williams.”
“Boyfriend?” My dad asked his eyes big as he turned to look at me. I bit my lip. “Was this that boy you were stuck with in there?” he demanded. I shrugged.
“He goes to my school. We just kind of—“
“Trinity Ann! We are going to talk about this! You do not have time for a boyfriend. We already discussed this long ago!” he said outraged. I bit my lip harder.
“I will do—“
“As I was saying,” Suzan Smith said, rudely interrupting it. “Mr. Adams, your daughter and her boyfriend are in for a lot. TV shows already want to have them on. Newspapers are putting them on the front page! Walmart is getting a lot of gold for this whole scandal also! They’ll be giving your family and Mr. William’s family a lot of money. They’ve even talked about making a movie about it!” I was shell shocked. Just getting stuck in walmart and people were tagging me and Ryder as some celebrities?
“Listen lady, my daughter isn’t taking place in anything with that boy or in any movies!” My father said, his face reddening from anger. Mom’s lips twitched with annoyance. She stepped up beside my dad and smiled polity at the lady.
“Mrs. Smith—“
“Ms.” Suzan Smith corrected. My mother’s lip twitched again.
“Ms. Smith, I’m sorry to say but we have to polity decline. Trinity is very busy and right now she just wants to get home.”
Suzan’s smile didn’t waver. “That’s okay Mrs. Adams. Here’s my card and Trinity, if you want to go through with anything, give me a call,” she winked at me and handed over a small business card. I took it and dad glared at me. I didn’t pay attention to him.
“Thank you,” I said quietly. I sounded like a little girl I realized. She walked out in her clapping heels.
“Okay, time to go home,” mom said trying to lighten the mood. Dad stood stiff, looking irritated. “Are you ready sweetie?”
Glanced out behind me at the crowd of people then back at the card in my hands. Wow, things got so different from just getting stuck in Walmart.
“Yeah, I’m ready,”
