Chapter 1 – Arianna
I’ve been sitting here on the cloud for over an hour now, thinking about what has been happening lately, like the fact that both my parents are gone. They knew it was very dangerous to go to the living world, Angels turn mortal there. But they went anyway, just because they wanted a little “adventure”, and now they’re both dead. A tear rolled down my cheek. It was as if they knew they were going to die, because on the day before they left, they gave me this necklace. I took the necklace off my neck and looked at it. The chain was silver, and it had a golden heart on it. In the middle of the heart is a little crystal. I don’t really know what it does, but my parents told me it shines when you find your true love. True love… I thought about what happened at school today. Trent, my boyfriend for 2 years, was being a jerk again. He had been acting weird lately, like he didn’t want to talk to me. When we were eating lunch today, he started making fun of people. He knew I didn’t like it when he did that, but he did it anyway. I got mad and left him, however, after thinking about it, I went back to find him, only to find him kissing one of the cheerleaders in our school. I stared at them, not believing my eyes. Then, they parted and he saw me. I remember the look on his face, like he was surprised and embarrassed. The cheerleader (I didn’t even know her) followed Trent’s eyes, saw me, said goodbye to him, and left quickly. Trent walked slowly to me, eyes cast down, as if he felt guilty. When he was finally in front of me, I slapped him. I knew it didn’t hurt him, because he blinked, and started apologizing, I didn’t want to listen to him, so I turned around and ran away, which is why I’m on this cloud right now. I sighed. I better go back now, I thought. I stood up and started walking home, while attempting to put the necklace back on my neck. Of course, being the klutz that I was, I tripped. I landed on my face, but it didn’t hurt, because the ground was fluffy. I looked up to see the necklace do a perfect arc over and off the cloud. “No!” I screamed as the necklace fell towards Earth. It was the only thing my parents left me. Without thinking, I dove off the cloud to retrieve it.
